Stehlenwald would be my place for sure; I've always enjoyed Magitek stuff and how magic can be used as a source of energy to benefit the lives of everyone rather than just having it only be used by those who are born with the magic... But I also just like magic guns =P
When these city maps release with the kickstarter, I’ll repeat my request again of if we could get unmarked versions of them for both player use and also allowing GMs to more easily seamlessly add in new locations to a city? Hopefully this isn’t too large of a request to have fulfilled as most drawn region/city maps nowadays, at least from what my other mapmaker friends tell me, are made with the markers as a different ‘layer’ in the editing software they use so they can be easily edited and hidden- but again, no idea if it is this easy for your artists, it depends on the software they use.
It depends I think. While most people would probably make them with Layers, unless that functionality was required from the beginning, Ghostfire may not have access to those files. (And possible the original artist wouldn't either)
I'm so happy to get a look at these cities. The city guides are one of the parts of the Kickstarter that I'm looking forward to the most. And I hope more cities are yet to come in the future.
I thought about an encounter with a clockwork spider it is: You hear a mechanical screech, a loud ticking sound and screams of people arond you. You see a giant spider made of copper and brass it scrambles across the street. It's mouth opens both horizontally and vertically. For a moment you are able to see steel cones with spikes turning at very high speeds in it's mouth. You can barely see the glow coming from it's stomach through it's throat as it rips apart and ingests a gnome.
If you are thinking why did it eat a gnome it's a clockwork based creature it is going to turn the gnome into energy(or maybe some sort of silk i don't know).
Stehlenwald sounds very much like Pittsburgh at the height of the coal and steel production - the soot in the air was so thick, the street lights came on at noon, and my great-grandmother would have to bring a spare pair of white gloves to wear because by the afternoon, they had become dingy from the pollution. Stone and concrete facades turned from beige to black from absorbing all the airborne smoke. I thought of it as 'blackstone' not knowing it was actually lightly colored underneath. All that pollution earned the city the nickname "Hell with the lid off" but also earned the downtown as the "Golden Triangle" because it was said the streets were paved with gold, so much wealth was created by industry.
I have another one. An island nation named Haebrosyl. It's known for Salt, a festival called Bards and Brews and 3 different types of racing. Land, Sea and Air. The biggest one, Haebrosyl Classic 24hr, is a circuit of the entire island. There's even a magical bridge over the harbor.
For cold Iron Keep it doesn't seem to make sense that the Valikan Clans run that prison it makes more sense to me that it's a isolated prison that the more civilized or Progressive or advanced nations of the continent send their most egregious offenders of Law and Order. But I understand is that no one goes that far north so if the valican clans were to be that involved I think it would be that they occasionally try to raid the fort to try to recruit more numbers since Clans often rise and fall. How about this take?
Or maybe maybe those that are Manning the fort that are far away from their homes and Families trade prisoners for goods or to be left alone or or something else that's interesting
You’re a little off, but do have a good idea in there. In Grarjord, the homeland of the Valikan Clans, there are two provinces: Thrull, where the raiders and the sacrificial druidic cult of the Prismatic Circle resides, and Kandar, the home to those who oppose the barbarism of Thrull and have taken a more cosmopolitan approach, using the capital city of Hrist to conduct trade and diplomacy with the southern neighbors. Cold Iron Keep is located due north of Hrist in Kandar, and it seems sensible that the more civilized of the Valikan Clans would want a prison for the more violent offenders. It would even be reasonable that they would leverage the isolated prison in negotiations with other nations, offering to keep their criminals there in exchange for political favors.
I have a gambling city I created called "The Flying City of Nozaru". It's a mountain city on the shell of a dead Zaratan that's floating above the ground. Come to find out, the city itself is the Phylactery of an Ancient Lich who's fed by people's greed and the despair of loss. The city maintains a steady 40% house advantage.
Does anyone know why we didn’t get this level of deep floor and descriptions from the original books? Did the Kickstarter for the original project just not some enough? What is the point of the original books if the new ones are basically the same material with expanded contents?
Most of the City supplements are directly related to stretch goals. I think the new ones exist because D&D 2024 exists and made some fundamental changes to how the game is played. For example classes now all get their subclass at level 3. There are fundamental changes to how Warlocks work. I.e. original choices are now invocations. My assumption is that if 2024 didn't come out, the books wouldn't have been updated and most things would have happened via expansion books.

I desire this stuff, plot hooks, city teases, adventure modules that are both fair and dinkum....did I use that right?
Not quite, but appreciate you givin' it a burl. 😉
Never would have thought cold iron keep was big enough to be considered a city. Thats interesting.
Pan's Labyrinth used as a reference for Tol Leyemil is such a top choice

Cannot wait to get those city guides! Easily one of my most anticipated parts of the kickstarter!
Great locations with great descriptions! Been keen on Grim Hollow content since their first dndb collaboration. Keep up the great work!
More lore, inspiration, and books from some of the best in the business? Yes pleeeeease
Can't wait for these city guides. I love fantasy cities, and these sound fantastic.
Totally gonna use cold iron keep in my campaigns
Stehlenwald seems very nice. I have many ideas regarding the clockwork monsters.

Awesome! 🔥

More sooo mmuch more
Ah, one note locations. Straight from the 'Star Wars Book of Worldbuilding'.
What do you mean by one note location? Not a troll just curious
These feel like tropes pushed to their extreme.

Do you guys have a release date in mind?
The Kickstarter is due for fulfillment in Nov 2025. We're currently in the process of writing, part of which formed the basis for this video!
5:07 what movie is that
With the Satyr? Pan’s Labyrinth.

All of this should be given to those of us who spent hundreds on the original Kickstarter. Shady and outright trash move on your part.
Of course! So I assume you've also demanded WOTC give you D&D books for free after having bought fifth or third edition books right?
