The cutaway segment to Tom Clark bowling is an amateur is crazy! Never seen that before, and the fact that he is commissioner now makes it that much more interesting.
One of my best friends in my neighborhood is a passionate bowler. Played the regional circuit. Would sometimes bowl at Tommy's home bowling alley and chat with him when he'd practice there. said he is one of the nicest guys ever. I was already living in California when he did that though but I caught him in an event in northern california when was in the area visiting another friend and saw him talking to fans. Seemed like one of the nicest guys to me too. I'm glad he won. Around this time (Late 90s, early 2000s), Chris Barnes was basically EJ Tackett before EJ Tackett became EJ Tackett. Showing up in a lot of TV finals but not winning the whole thing til way later lol. I heard he's a real sore loser too so I'm glad he lost lol. Tommy though, big ups to you man you are a true class act!
I crossed next to Tommy in a regional in around 2002. I was playing the lanes different than most of the top guys and at one point saw Tommy standing behind our pair checking out what I was doing. That was pretty cool. I think he snuck into the 16th and final spot for match play and came back the next day and won.
Barnes didnt miss the hole the whole game When he really needed it He gags Thats why he only has 19 titles and about 50 2nds Biggest gagger for the wheat in PBA history How do you make 12 shows in a year and dont win 1 title Side note : Tom Clark bowling was a treat to see because he became the Commissioner of the PBA
I think Barnes “only” has 31 second place finishes; Walter and Earl both have way more. To answer your question: because they let 8 people make the show that year, so shows were easier to make but harder to win.
Pretty ironic that they would call this the Long Island open, while the event was held in a different state altogether. I mean, Mohegan Sun isn't even exactly all that close to Long Island, it's nearly a 3 hour drive at best. Either way, it was a great show overall. Thanks for this :)
As someone who has lived in upstate NY all my life and who is infuriated every time the New Jersey football teams are referred to as “New York”, I am numb to this kind of thing… To be fair, only the tv show was held at the casino; the rest was at the bowling center in Syosset that they went to every year in this era.
@enigmazero8624 I wonder if they hopped the ferry to get across the sound. Definitely possible, and about 3 hrs less travel to go like 20 miles altogether.
EnigmaZero, It looks like you are planning to upload the U.S. Open. Also, The Title match between Tommy Delutz Jr and Chris Barnes had a dramatic finish. Also, Congratulations on getting to 100 videos on TH-cam.
What a boring show. The pocket is a given and just see who gets lucky. I feel like there was another Long Island Open show that was the same thing maybe 3 years earlier. It was at the bowling center instead of the arena but the results were the same. Strange.
@@enigmazero8624 similar pin carry was given at the 1996 PBA Flagship Open. Nelson actually talked about it on the TV show, and that kind of pin carry has to with the flat gutters next to the pin decks. When they install arena setting lanes, they bring those flat gutters to the highest allowable level, so the pins bounce out a lot easier. The reason they can't do that in a standard bowling center is because lanes get resurfaced with lane machines, and they will be out of tolerance in a short period of time because the lane machine presses down on those flat gutters. So just for the arena settings, they do that. That's why the pin carry is awesome in arena finals.
There is another all time great who 'choked' or "got second" quite a bit....he also won quite a bit. Earl Anthony is his name. And yeah, with all the seconds and thirds he got, you COULD call him a choker. Barnes has 19 titles and was right there for how many more? Dude is one of the modern greats for sure, any way you wanna slice it. But a "joke "? Lol...cmon..a bit harsh, no?
It's bittersweet seeing Tony Reyes on a show... RIP!
Tony Reyes ( RIP)🙏
Walter Ray Williams Jr. Is Awesome.
I Used to Bowl the Lustig Scratch Tournament at Syosset
I have to say, OMG AT THAT FINISH!!!! What a CRAZY Championship match!!!!!

I said the same thing. I had forgotten about that until I rewatched this show prior to uploading.
Yeah it is amazing. Just glad the PBA is doing better.
18:57 segment featuring the future PBA Tour Commissioner :P
Ha yep I totally forgot about that until I watched this again to prepare it for upload. His ball roll is… pretty bad.
To see Tom Clark bowl and then realize he is running the PBA now is really crazy

I bowled with Tommy D. back in the 90's at Cal Bowl in Long Beach, Ca in a pro-am event. Very down to earth guy, a class act.
I crossed near him in a regional and I thought the same thing.

Couldn’t have happened to a “nicer” person. Always enjoy watching TDJr win this one.

Exactly. I lived in CT my whole life. Never heard of Long Island, Connecticut.

I still have that spare ball Chris Barnes is throwing. Don't roll with it anymore but It looks so cool
Pretty appropriate for that year…
The WildCard, 1st Semi Final, and Title matches of the Long Island Open had fantastic and dramatic finishes.
You seriously need to stop
You’re annoying AF.
Long Island Open, from Long Island, Connecticut.
@EnigmaZero any more videos of 2001 2002 pba season you working on uploading tonight or this weekend?

There is also pba earl anthony memorial classic were parker bohn won that title
Chris left a decent amount of titles on the table with his mental lapses.
Looks like they had the lumberjack pins in. Yikes!

@@natec3032 usually it is, but the carry on this show was terrible
Long Island open live from Connecticut lol
To be fair, the whole event was on Long Island and just the finals was at the casino

Why? He has 19 PBA titles under his belt. That's a lot.
