Marvel's Angela IS the same character from Spawn. You can read the details on Wikipedia, but the short of it is, Neil Gaiman created her when he wrote her first appearance, sued McFarlane for the rights in a prolonged legal battle, and after he won, he just sold her to Marvel out of spite.
The Angela thing is even weirder than Woolie implied. She was actually created for Spawn by Neil Gaiman, but MacFarlane was allegedly using her without his permission, so Neil sued and got ownership of the character, then sold her to Marvel.
This is why I will never hear a bad word about Max. He cares about the FGC more than anyone I've ever seen. A passion project like this is proof positive of that.
It's wild because Max was the one taking the brutal hits defending Infinite as much as he could for so long. Eventually he goes "FINE. I'LL FIX IT MYSELF." And then the mad lad actually hired a dev team and did it. Max's journey from KI hype guy and trailer marketer to THIS is something that has to be studied in a classroom for How To Market Video Games 101.
Yeah, the 'insanity check' that was implemented to prevent people bringing in duplicate characters or Ultron Sigma/Omega into online matches. I still think with enough time and effort, they could find a workaround, but if they can't, that's fine too. Still would much rather have the character select not have Winter Soldier on what is supposed to be the Capcom side.

I mean the fact that they managed to fix how Cap looked like as frogman is enough for me to sing this mods praises. Especially since they did it using Caps model from MUA3 which is a cool design. They even gave him his super soldier alt. Im thankful for everyone involved on this mod that helped bring a bit more life to this game.

Yeah, I don't know if Woolie was counting platform fighters under when he was talking about the best mod package of the genre that we have seen. But Smash mods are extremely extensive endeavors. MVCIB is great, but in terms of the amount of content and reworks, it's not on the level of a Project M. A whole competitive community came out of that mod and rivaled the size of the base game community(Brawl)

The game had production issues **caused** by Disney such as having the Xmen removed due to them being with Sony, which Capcom could do nothing about.
FYI: Hit Monkey had(/has?) His own marvel tv show. Animated too, and its pretty good in my book at least. Edit: It apparently made it to season 2 at least. Which given it was on Netflix may have been all they were EVER gonna get. So use your own judgment.

This game is fucking nuts. The insane amount of shit you can do with Tagging and the Infinity Stones is crazy. Time Stone's install lets you just cancel into any move over and over, so I would just spam 6HP with Spider-Man and just goofy combo people to death. Soul Stone is literally just MvC1's Duo Attack where you can play two characters at once. I can't believe I missed out on this.

Ergheiz has amazing gameplay that NOBODY knows about because the damn game doesn't have a good tutorial and nobody has a made a full video guide. Deadass, the majority of people don't know there's a lock-on that allows you to sidestep, backdash and access new moves to do combos. (People forget Ergheiz was a joint project between Squaresoft and Namco, the makers of Tekken.) My hope is that once rollback netcode gets fully figured out for PS1 and integrated into Fightcade, we'll see a resurgence for these obscure games like Ergheiz, Destrega and Street Fighter EX2+.

I never gave MVCI a chance due to all the controversy and awful looks/music, but since Beyond released I've been playing with a friend and GODDAMN that's a fun VS game! Some textures still need work (looking at you monster hunter) but the new coat of paint, music and minor rebalances does make me want to keep playing almost everyday now

Even Hit-Monkey isn’t a crazy left field pick, he’s not Capcom putting Shuma-Gorath and Blackheart in Marvel Super Heroes for example. I mean, for one thing it’s a third person shooter and Hit-Monkey is a Marvel character that uses guns. But Hit-Monkey is a Deadpool related character, and there is a HULU Hit-Monkey show that’s run for two seasons and seems to still be going. And Angela is definitely not a weird pick. Sure Marvel Comics can’t figure out what to do with the character, but she is maybe one of the biggest comic book characters of the ‘90s given she’s a ‘90s Spawn character, and even showed up in the HBO Spawn cartoon. She’s definitely the type of character that no matter what Marvel Comics is doing with her, you use her because of Spawn.

The problem with mvc was it originally being a video game, mvc3 being based on comics, thus ruining mvci being based on the cinematic universe. Mvci was done for the times, which was its issue. No xmen or f4 is a deep mistake.
Infinite played amazingly but looked awful. It really put to rest the whole "We don't care about good graphics we just want good gameplay" thing and showed that you need a good mix

Personally, I think this mod is a means to an end. We're probably on the heels of a new MvC game and it seems like Max and co. gave Marvel/Disney a blueprint for what a MvC game should be. And if that falls through, fuck it we've still got a great game.
Everyone saying "the gameplay was good" is completely misremembering history. Prominent players like ChrisG hated the gameplay, common complaints being that everyone did around the same amount of damage, there wasn't that much room for combo creativity, lots of sauce was removed from characters that used to have it, etc. There were constant comparisons to SFxT gameplay, where everything felt normalized and stale. This has changed over time, through doc DLC and game exploration, but many of the original gameplay problems never went away.

And she didn't instantly start showing up in other mediums. If you spoke with a Superman fan, you'll find every one of them give a mention to All Star. I generally stay away from comics, but it's hard not to learn of their existence or stories in spite of that due to the internet.

It is so sadly hilarious that after mvci having no interesting characters and basically no artstyle a marvel game with crazy characters and a unique artstyle dropped. Props to the Beyond mod team for doing what they could to add sauce to mvci though.
I hope the community edition people can work with the beyond people so their mods can seamlessly coexist. Custom content in the new artstyle is the shot in the arm the game needs.
In resoonse to the if its not official who cares person I kind of feel for them as someone who isnt a PC gamer. Im happy for all the PC players im glad this Mod exists. But it stings to miss out on this and the MVC3 mods. Meanwhile I am able to enjoy the MVC collection because im not being left out in any way.
That big Beyong mod is cool for Infinite, but the time is really funny. I mean, with Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics releasing last year... we’re definitely going to see some new Marvel vs. Capcom game getting revealed this year.
Not only do I think Max saved this game and put his own 30 racks on it to do so with some of the best artists and modders, I think Max is saying directly to Capcom “We want MVC4.”
I think at some point those little citation tags saying such and such costume first appeared in whatever issue is going to disappear and they’re going to have costumes that look more like the comic costumes. Like Magneto’s comic costume in this game doesn’t even kind of look like the costume it says it’s meant to be. If anything, it looks more like a version of his costume in the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon crossed with his Age of Apocalypse costume than it does his original costume or the ‘90s version of his original costume that people actually think of when they think of comic book Magneto. If that Marvel Rivals “comic costume” appeared in the comic nobody would be saying that’s meant to be his old costume, that’d just be a totally new completely different costume. Ultimate Hela in Marvel Rivals is just a recolor that doesn’t even look kind of like the Devilman looking design of comic book Ultimate Hela. There weirdest one is maybe the white recolor Storm saying it’s meant to be X-Men ‘91 Storm; like not only does it look nothing like X-Men ‘91 Storm, but that’s also Storm’s most iconic look so you know there’s going to be a skin somewhere down the line that looks more like that costume than what they put in the game.
It's a terribly boring game with a lot of extremely gacha-looking character designs. Some of them do look good but some are barely recognizable. I just saw their F4 designs and if you removed the 4 from Sue and Reed they could have been anyone. It's not as bad as Korean MMOs where every character looks the same but it has that same stinka on it.
How does something like infinite happen? Where visuals, qol, lets not talk about the tournament scene rules those were unholy weird. Especially being so popular in the FGC you would've figured Cap would have gone over with a fine brush
I feel like Disney/marvel studios had a lot to do w it and their focus was mainly on the MCU movies. When they saw it was failing they ended all support I’m guessing. I was hoping of like an Ultimate or refined mvci but when they discontinued content I felt they just quit
I really don’t think so, MCU impacts the comics sure but the all games and animated stuff that’s come out recently has been fantastic and hasn’t needed to be tied to the MCU (at most Insomniac Spider-Man and Rivals have MCU costumes). The non-Spidey Sony movies just suck and would still suck even if the MCU hadn’t happened, they’re just excuses to keep holding onto the brand.

Even Hit-Monkey isn’t a crazy left field pick, he’s not Capcom putting Shuma-Gorath and Blackheart in Marvel Super Heroes for example. I mean, for one thing it’s a third person shooter and Hit-Monkey is a Marvel character that uses guns. But Hit-Monkey is a Deadpool related character, and there is a HULU Hit-Monkey show that’s run for two seasons and seems to still be going.
And Angela is definitely not a weird pick. Sure Marvel Comics can’t figure out what to do with the character, but she is maybe one of the biggest comic book characters of the ‘90s given she’s a ‘90s Spawn character, and even showed up in the HBO Spawn cartoon. She’s definitely the type of character that no matter what Marvel Comics is doing with her, you use her because of Spawn.
Honestly the weirdest thing to me about this release is that all the people who hate mods seem to be coming out of the woodwork just for this one.

I would say the improvement over Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite is less about graphics on the technical side and more about the ARTSYLE / ART DIRECTION.

The problem with mvc was it originally being a video game, mvc3 being based on comics, thus ruining mvci being based on the cinematic universe. Mvci was done for the times, which was its issue. No xmen or f4 is a deep mistake.
Infinite played amazingly but looked awful. It really put to rest the whole "We don't care about good graphics we just want good gameplay" thing and showed that you need a good mix

Personally, I think this mod is a means to an end. We're probably on the heels of a new MvC game and it seems like Max and co. gave Marvel/Disney a blueprint for what a MvC game should be. And if that falls through, fuck it we've still got a great game.
Everyone saying "the gameplay was good" is completely misremembering history. Prominent players like ChrisG hated the gameplay, common complaints being that everyone did around the same amount of damage, there wasn't that much room for combo creativity, lots of sauce was removed from characters that used to have it, etc. There were constant comparisons to SFxT gameplay, where everything felt normalized and stale. This has changed over time, through doc DLC and game exploration, but many of the original gameplay problems never went away.

scarlet witch was a staple avengers character, but despite being the flagship marvel team, the avengers didn't have much pop culture impact before the mcu. when you looked at marvel characters people cared about, it was mostly x-men and spider-man, maybe the hulk.not to mention she was completely absent from comics after house of m for nearly a decade, until shortly before her mcu debut, because circumstances had attached so much baggage to her that no creator wanted to touch her. even without necessarily knowing all of that history, woolie isn't wrong in saying she's a bigger deal now.

And she didn't instantly start showing up in other mediums. If you spoke with a Superman fan, you'll find every one of them give a mention to All Star.
I generally stay away from comics, but it's hard not to learn of their existence or stories in spite of that due to the internet.

It is so sadly hilarious that after mvci having no interesting characters and basically no artstyle a marvel game with crazy characters and a unique artstyle dropped. Props to the Beyond mod team for doing what they could to add sauce to mvci though.

In resoonse to the if its not official who cares person I kind of feel for them as someone who isnt a PC gamer. Im happy for all the PC players im glad this Mod exists. But it stings to miss out on this and the MVC3 mods. Meanwhile I am able to enjoy the MVC collection because im not being left out in any way.
That big Beyong mod is cool for Infinite, but the time is really funny. I mean, with Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics releasing last year... we’re definitely going to see some new Marvel vs. Capcom game getting revealed this year.
Not only do I think Max saved this game and put his own 30 racks on it to do so with some of the best artists and modders, I think Max is saying directly to Capcom “We want MVC4.”
I think at some point those little citation tags saying such and such costume first appeared in whatever issue is going to disappear and they’re going to have costumes that look more like the comic costumes. Like Magneto’s comic costume in this game doesn’t even kind of look like the costume it says it’s meant to be. If anything, it looks more like a version of his costume in the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon crossed with his Age of Apocalypse costume than it does his original costume or the ‘90s version of his original costume that people actually think of when they think of comic book Magneto. If that Marvel Rivals “comic costume” appeared in the comic nobody would be saying that’s meant to be his old costume, that’d just be a totally new completely different costume. Ultimate Hela in Marvel Rivals is just a recolor that doesn’t even look kind of like the Devilman looking design of comic book Ultimate Hela. There weirdest one is maybe the white recolor Storm saying it’s meant to be X-Men ‘91 Storm; like not only does it look nothing like X-Men ‘91 Storm, but that’s also Storm’s most iconic look so you know there’s going to be a skin somewhere down the line that looks more like that costume than what they put in the game.
I really hope neither Disney nor Capcom send their legal teams to the MvCI Beyond artists.

I do like Rivals, but it’s an online map battle with a bunch of people, not a fighting game.
It's a terribly boring game with a lot of extremely gacha-looking character designs. Some of them do look good but some are barely recognizable. I just saw their F4 designs and if you removed the 4 from Sue and Reed they could have been anyone. It's not as bad as Korean MMOs where every character looks the same but it has that same stinka on it.

I feel like Disney/marvel studios had a lot to do w it and their focus was mainly on the MCU movies. When they saw it was failing they ended all support I’m guessing. I was hoping of like an Ultimate or refined mvci but when they discontinued content I felt they just quit
The mcu has been a death sentence for any non movie related marvel media with a few exceptions.
I really don’t think so, MCU impacts the comics sure but the all games and animated stuff that’s come out recently has been fantastic and hasn’t needed to be tied to the MCU (at most Insomniac Spider-Man and Rivals have MCU costumes).
The non-Spidey Sony movies just suck and would still suck even if the MCU hadn’t happened, they’re just excuses to keep holding onto the brand.
