Somehow I doubt that. Most humans can recognize language even when it isn't native to us. I highly doubt that they killed her specifically because of a language barrier. Though with that said I have no clue why they killed her or why they though of her as any kind of threat.
Eltrio, well two issues with that first is it seems that the people understood but only enough that they thought she was claiming to be a demon or undead by stating that she doesn't smile, laugh or live, and with her ghostly appearance they believed it thus a misunderstanding. second being the setting places them in a time where multilingual people and exposure to other languages was rarer so the barrier was a larger hurtle, as these clearly superstitious people willing to believe the man's claim without much doubt their in their dark view of her was all based on misunderstandings, assumptions, fear, reactions instead of observation and logic and kindness. Okay, but what if? What if that man WAS her prince? Like, hear me out, she was waiting for a long time, right? Well, her appearance probably changed after such a long time he didn't recognize her. Since Mademoiselle Noir speaks French, it would make sense for her prince to speak it to, wouldn't it? When she told him, "I don't smile, nor laugh, nor live" what if he misinterpreted her words and thought she was a living dead? He probably misunderstood the context of her words. If i were her i would be thinking what was wrong with me. She just accepted what was going on with such saddnes. OMG IM GONNA CRY!!😖
Me: Look sis, it's so poetic and beautiful. The artistic style and incorporation of French is amazing too, don't you think Sister: So these stick figures couldn't speak French and decided to burn Rapunzel alive? Me: . . . basically
@@ghiz1ene they know that, it's just a reference for her having long hair and it feels like the twisted version of rapunzel so people are going to reference it lmao
The point wasn't that they didn't speak french. It's that they could speak french and completely misunderstood the line, "I don't smile or laugh or live" as her admitting to being a living dead since to them if she "doesn't live" that must mean she's a zombie.
The story that makes you stop to think about it. It shows the cruelty of people who don't even want to comprehend logically who is she. Driven by the fear and prejudice they condemned her to sadistic and painful death. Sad, but the most important question for everyone of us is whether we in our reality treat our brethren in the same way like those citizens. Do we try to understand and help the others instead of judging them and condemn them to the same fate like our heroine?
Notice around 2:10 how the "undead" lady in the book is a few pages after the "princess" page... could it be that what these people are doing will turn the lonely princess into the undead they fear? This songs ends too soon, I need to know what happens next. Also, it seems they all read the same book (the "prince" and the townsfolk) and when they saw the lady they identified her as the undead and not the princess, showing how human nature is so quick to see the evil before seeing the good. God I love this song. And video.
the picture was drawn a while before they found her, I think she might not have looked like how she used to after being left alone in a castle with only one small window, supplies would inevitably start to dwinkle causing her to look unnaturally thin, pale, and restless she might've looked like an actual undead ghost/corpse or they assumed she had died or gone insane from the isolation long ago (and was therefore an dead body singing to them) old comment, ik, just wanted to post my theory on it anyway :p
@@mangosteen177 In fairy tales about princesses in towers, it's usually a witch who imprisons them. Maybe the other woman in the book was the witch who cursed the lady so she wouldn't be able to leave her tower? And the people got them mixed up.
"And that's all she said." Gave me chills because not only is it the last thing she said it was also the meaning of those words. All she was an introduction that's all she said. It's like suddenly the realization that it was no demon's language or curse it was just simply her saying her introducing herself and she was killed for it. Something so simple yet it was so misunderstood. I feel like it was a taunt at the man in the beginning.
It says basically nothing. It's just random words scrapped together to give an impression of clothes made with book paper. At least that's what I managed to recognize, the words are litteraly cut in half and are unreadable. And yes, I speak french.
They didnt kill her because they didn't know french. The guy misunderstood her when she said I "dont smile or live or laugh". He thought that she was paranormal because she stated that she doesnt live. Her being in a tower with probably the longest hair he's ever seen didn't help her case either. And notice in song when it says "and they felt the great fear when they HEARED HOW SHE SAID IT again" the song doesn't state that they felt fear because they didnt know what she was saying. Its saying that they felt fear bc of what she said and how she stated it.
Lovingthe sounds i think that the man was the only one who spoke French so that’s why he understood. Then the others didn’t know so they only thought she was speaking gibberish or “in devil tongues” like some called it. Would make sense
Dear people asking "why is she not cutting her hair at the end?" You're missing the point. The moral is to treat people equally and not automatically assume someone is a demon because of small details. She died to symbolize that people can be hurt by other's actions.
It wouldn’t surprise me if she intentionally let them burn her. She wanted her prince to save her but instead he stood back and watched her die. My bet is she thought it would be better to die than live with the knowledge that she has been abandoned and has no way out
Ik this is from a year ago but they never actually confirm that she died I personally think that she was the 'princess' in the book but by the towns folk burning her they cause her to become a 'living dead'
She didnt because she was waiting for her prince..in rapunzel, thats how the prince get in the tower..she is still hoping for her prince even at the end
Sadly, it is merely human nature to fear that which we do not understand. We would sooner destroy that which we fear as opposed to understanding it simply so we no longer have to fear it. We do not fear that which has been destroyed.
tazman5129 Nice try at being poetic but this is not only a human trait, it's an animal trait in general. It's part of our survival instinct. It's a double edged sword no doubt about that.
Here’s an idea, the guy who first meets her actually speaks French, and misinterpreted her line of “I don’t live” as literal. The villagers don’t speak French, thus think she’s a demon. Only when her hair is set on fire does the man realize he just condemned an innocent lady to death.

one underrated thing that i noticed is there clothes, the townspeople have completely black clothes showing that they truly have a bad/dark intent to Mademoiselle, her "prince" however, have white marks in his clothes-- showing that he has no bad intent to her (he didn't bring weapons nor he was angry), just scared of her (and he pitied her in the end). does it make him a good person tho? not entirely, he did not stopped the townspeople from killing her that's why he still has black marks. as for Mademoiselle, i searched through google, yellow can mean hope, maybe she is truly hoping her prince will come and save her (idk, maybe im looking at this too much)
This suddenly reminded me of what happened 3 weeks ago to a man in Algeria, one region was on fire and he traveled miles far to volunteer and help the people, but then there was some random people who accused him of burning the forest, so they kicked him and burned him alive while taking selfies and laughing about it, then they decapitated him and kept recording videos and saying that this is what happens to anyone that would dare to harm them, but at the end of the day it was proven that the guy was an artist, who loved nature and was a really pure soul that always wanted to help people around him, even animals. Its the story of a guy named djamel ben ismail who was killed in a brutal way by almost 200 people while screaming that he was innocent.
Although the message brings me to tears, I can't help but have one question. Why would someone destroy someone who poured her heart into those four lines? I'd immediately try to learn what she said or at least feel sorry for her position regardless. Then again, this is society.
I do realize that my comment will likely go unnoticed but I'll write it anyways. Although this is a fairly common story about people judging others before they can actually understand them, this is truly a beautiful portrayal of it. The imagery used in this amazing. The voice of the singer is amazing, particularly when she is singing in French. It is a masterpiece that has worked its way onto my list of favorites. Amazing work, and I do hope that you can make more things like this in the future.
Even though it’s been years and years I still find myself returning, this piece of media will always be my absolute favorite even if my efforts are elsewhere now. It’s just such a beautiful piece of art with such a sad story and I’m glad it’s still here after so long
This song is really interesting. There are many ways one can interpret the lyrics and so many different perspectives. I myself find the line « Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit » really curious. Why would the lady say that “that’s what she said” at the end of her monologue? The people didn’t speak French, so maybe it’s the singer referencing Mademoiselle noir, but that wouldn’t be as fun. I would like to believe that it’s not only to accentuate how “weird” and “strange” Mademoiselle noir was, but that it could be something like the musings of a solitary person. Living alone in a tower for who knows how long would seriously damage someone’s mental health, so perhaps the French is a way to contrast Mademoiselle’s life with that of the common folk, with her monologuing to herself as a way to cope with loneliness and perhaps depression and the villagers just jumped in the “mental health?! That doesn’t exist!” wagon and called her a demon, not understanding the root of her problem. Perhaps Mademoiselle noir was in the tower because of health problems, mental health problems, or a mixture of both, and the people, scared of the unknown murdered the innocent women. But the worst character is the dude. He could have stopped them. He understood it was wrong. But even after the realization that he was wrong, he stood by, a passive force that could have made a difference, but instead let an innocent die. May-haps that is one of the morals of this story. Do not let fear engulf you and stand by as evil is running rampant. After all, those who let evil go unpunished are as bad as the perpetrators.

I mean, if someone that was exactly from a book that just happened to be lying around, in the exact same tower from that book, and can only say one line from that book, and all this was presumably close to a village where no-one had seen that tower there before, I'd start to get suspicious too.
I keep rewatching this and I still can't get over how tragic and beautiful it is. In such a shot video they show humans greatest fear, the fear of the unknown. The town's people could not understand her, the man could not understand her so due to this they became afraid. As she is burning she says her greeting again, that is when the man that found her understood what she was saying for the towns people dropped a book that had her story in it. By then it was too late, you can see the horror of the realization in on his face as you hear her last and final greeting. It's tragic becase lady black probably didn't understand what they where yelling as well, and was just as afraid as they where.
What a funny thing that i didn't even remember this song before it played on my old playlist... It accompanied me during really dark times 3years ago and at some point it even became my lullaby... It made me remember that even if I wasn't understood at the time, that i dressed only in black, couldn't smile nor laugh heartfuly, I still had my own story and wasn't just what people saw in me. I've always had difficulties with self-trust/self-esteem and it kept me from dying a bunch of times. A beautiful song indeed.
@Choco Bitch or or we could do it in the guy's perspective give an explanation on how he found her, maybe he wanted to live a fairy tail but missed his opportunity and after she died we get to watch him deal with the guilt and eventually commit suicide

line from song : 'She was waiting for her prince and for one last time she said.' So the man who saw her first was her prince but he was too scared because of what unknown language it is and it is basically a twisted rapunzel. So the scene is a big tower same as the film, a lady with long long hair same as the film and a man who comes to the tower same as the film. The twisted part is that the man is scared of the lady and he runs away to tell the people who all run and kill her by setting her on fire. Your welcome. By the way don't keep on saying "Oh no! Why didn't she cut her hair off or put it in the tower!?" It is dumb so just listen to the song as it is.
if you look at 2:00 when the pages are turning, you realize that the story changes from what the people thought were her story to her actual story (both in the song and book). The picture moves from the 'demon/living dead' woman they mistook her or to _her_ ,in the tower, in her yellow dress and with her long, dark hair. You see the man looking back towards her as the story changes and he realises his mistake.

Me: . . . basically
My friend said that she is rapunzel but she is not
@@ghiz1ene they know that, it's just a reference for her having long hair and it feels like the twisted version of rapunzel so people are going to reference it lmao
@@kinderjoys22 i think thats the story of rapunzel in french version i think?
it's not about ppl don't speak french, it's about misunderstanding

Well he should feel guilty because it's his fault why the girl died
I never felt so much anger towards a character.
And video.
@The one girl Depends sure
**how human nature is so quick to see the evil before seeing the good**
Thank you.
the picture was drawn a while before they found her, I think she might not have looked like how she used to
after being left alone in a castle with only one small window, supplies would inevitably start to dwinkle causing her to look unnaturally thin, pale, and restless
she might've looked like an actual undead ghost/corpse
or they assumed she had died or gone insane from the isolation long ago (and was therefore an dead body singing to them)

@@ccaffie1231 very interesting, i like your theory! But i still curious about why did she get isolated, i couldnt find any theory on google

I just imagined her wearing a white pair of sneakers. hh
Out of all the comments I've read I loved this one the most. Much like the story it isnt long but a simple analogy of it
If you look closely the man has words on him.Guessing it was sign that he was supposed to be part of her story and was her savoir.
Blue Tree holy shIT
Holy shit you're right! Quick, someone who speaks French translate the words on him! What do they say?
It says basically nothing. It's just random words scrapped together to give an impression of clothes made with book paper. At least that's what I managed to recognize, the words are litteraly cut in half and are unreadable. And yes, I speak french.
I’ve seen this video many times and I didn’t realize that until you pointed it out
He was. He saved her, if you look closely at the end lyrics she was living a shitty life, then he burned her thus saving her from agony.
Chorus in English:
My name is Miss Black
And like you can see
I don’t smile, or laugh, or live
And that’s all she said.

Them : I'm about to end this girl whole life
They didnt kill her because they didn't know french.

+Kiwidoom
Most likely.
That's the idea, there's a video where the song and video is explained.
It's like the real story would be like.
Kiwidoom yes yes indeed
Dear people asking "why is she not cutting her hair at the end?"
You're missing the point. The moral is to treat people equally and not automatically assume someone is a demon because of small details. She died to symbolize that people can be hurt by other's actions.
I thought, maybe, she lost her last hope and just "surrendered to"/"welcomed" death :c
She could perhaps, have no way to cut it.... thus why it may be so long...
Ok calm down Lovecraft
They need to put this back on the ads
Here’s an idea, the guy who first meets her actually speaks French, and misinterpreted her line of “I don’t live” as literal. The villagers don’t speak French, thus think she’s a demon. Only when her hair is set on fire does the man realize he just condemned an innocent lady to death.
thats gonna be some next level guilt right there
That’s the route I’m taking with my story! It sucks how he took it literally

lyrics
A man came across this old tower one day,
it was straight like from a book he once read
He lifted his head up and saw this young lady
and here's what the lady said:
Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir
et comme vous pouvez le voir:
Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis
Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit
The man was so scared he could only run away,
he ran to the town and then said:
"I just saw a lady with the longest dark hair
and I think she's a living dead!"
The people, so scared, took their guns and their swords
They ran to the tower and then
they saw the pale lady and felt a great fear
when they heard how she said it again
Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir...
The people they new what this all was about,
she was clearly a demon from hell
They decided to set her long hair on fire,
in the end it would burn her as well
But the lady was no demon, she was a lonely soul,
just like in that book they once read
Still waiting for her prince, while her hair was on fire,
the one last time she said:
Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir...
Translation:
"My name is miss black, and as you can see I do not smile or laugh" and that is all she said.

one underrated thing that i noticed is there clothes, the townspeople have completely black clothes showing that they truly have a bad/dark intent to Mademoiselle, her "prince" however, have white marks in his clothes-- showing that he has no bad intent to her (he didn't bring weapons nor he was angry), just scared of her (and he pitied her in the end). does it make him a good person tho? not entirely, he did not stopped the townspeople from killing her that's why he still has black marks. as for Mademoiselle, i searched through google, yellow can mean hope, maybe she is truly hoping her prince will come and save her (idk, maybe im looking at this too much)
no it makes him a little coward bitch boy
No ig you're right, the so called "prince" is a good example of Ying Yang...
That is truly tragic

Although the message brings me to tears, I can't help but have one question.
Why would someone destroy someone who poured her heart into those four lines? I'd immediately try to learn what she said or at least feel sorry for her position regardless.
Then again, this is society.
When people don't understand things they immediately try to destroy it at least back then that's how it worked
Humanity is afraid of what they do not understand. I love how you asked this it's beautiful for a question.
Because people only wanna hear what they know
Society fears what they don't understand
We live in a society where women we don't understand are burned to death.
Bottom text
Sorry, couldn't help but doing that.
I love how it shows just before she burned to death, the man realizes they got the wrong person but it was too late.
Yeah that always makes me so so sad
I do realize that my comment will likely go unnoticed but I'll write it anyways. Although this is a fairly common story about people judging others before they can actually understand them, this is truly a beautiful portrayal of it. The imagery used in this amazing. The voice of the singer is amazing, particularly when she is singing in French. It is a masterpiece that has worked its way onto my list of favorites. Amazing work, and I do hope that you can make more things like this in the future.
You gotta add that to spotify, my friend :) I need it it my playlist
Animation in this so gorgeous, really love the way her hair looks in the beginning haha
After all, those who let evil go unpunished are as bad as the perpetrators.
this is why i like seeing simple pieces every once and a while. it makes you think of things more like what you just typed above
I have a feeling if he tried to stop them they would just decide he is a demon too and than shoot him in the face
Yes to all of this omg I love this interpretation!
2-3 minutes and a better story than most full length movies.
I'm pressing the replay button to see if in the next time I play it will have a happy ending, until then I'll just cry

Honestly!! I’ve been hooked since so long lol

Me? I got setting hair on fire in the barbershop.
"she was a lonely soul" was the saddest lyric of the song to me
I absolutely love music like this. It’s art, fine art,
line from song : 'She was waiting for her prince and for one last time she said.' So the man who saw her first was her prince but he was too scared because of what unknown language it is and it is basically a twisted rapunzel.
I’m a big fan of this kind of tragic tales. I felt so sad for this poor soul
