Tbph that's a good question and it's one of the points I feel that does separate myself from Edelgard, i.e. where I agree that, yes, crests do play a big part in all the stuff that her and so many other people have endured due to the crest system and the like, however I don't think the crests are directly to blame, but rather the fact that people chose to glorify them as they did and the Church of Seiros simply allowed the masses (if not played a part in creating this mob mentality) to behave this way without trying to guide people to a better perspective or at least make them understand, as Seteth put it, "For now, let it suffice to say that whether or not you bear one is secondary to your identity. You are a person, first and foremost. And you should be permitted to grow as a person, Crest or not." I can understand why crests are considered so valuable (since they can literally grant immense power to those who are born with them); however, to do as house Gautier did, for example, and only allow a Crest-bearer to become heir while any other kids born before are disowned/disinherited just because they were without one is, at least to me, wrong, to say the least. As Edelgard pointed out about Miklan's case, the fact that he was shown to be able to really be a capable leader, even for just a band of thieves, and was cast aside simply because he was without a Crest, was a shame because he could've been a major asset to his family, his little brother, and many others, had they not viewed his having (or rather, not having) a Crest has so much more important than having him as a person.
Put simply, I agree that the Church needs to be held accountable for the part they played in all this, but idk if I would've actually gone to war with them. Though that part of my opinion does stem from the matter that, as a player and third party who is looking at this world in a third-person-semi-omniscient (I say semi because as you play through the games routes and then replay in different routes, you start to learn more and will know things that the cast don't get to actually know about in a single route), and I know things that she didn't get the chance to know, which is, by itself, a major shame because I can't help but wonder what if we, as the player, got the chance to tell her all that we know, i.e. the whole truth of the story. Would she still regard Crests and, by extension, the Church of Seiros, as the main evil that needs to be stamped out, or would she try to work with us and everyone (i.e. the Kingdom and the Alliance) and put a halt to the plots of the real villians of this story? And it's a pity that we'll never know that sort of scenario.
Long story short, and to properly answer your question: no, I do not think the Crests are to blame. Tbh I just realized I said all that without clearly stating my "yes or no" response, because all this other stuff I said is my "Why do I think that?" lol

She honestly feels like a manipulated person twisted by the incorrect history passed down by her ancestors and the actions of TWSITD. T_T I can totally see how, knowing only what she knew, El would see the church as an enemy. She doesn't have enough life left in her to walk Dimitri's path of slow reforms and decides to take the shortest possible route... I kinda know this feeling of making a choice that you are obliged to make, even if it is not necessarily what you really want (especially if it involves some sacrifices). She must have felt that way due to all who died because of her Crest of Flames. What makes me feel even worse is the direct translation of the lyrics. The lines like "After all, a promise that will never come true is what this sad girl wishes for" - since she ends up making an enemy of the one person she really wishes to be her ally. So, yeah, I also feel bad for her and wish there was a good resolution for her that wouldn't cost so many other lives :(
Can we appreciate the beauty of this game? The music team developed this song, which made me cry before I knew the meaning behind the lyrics. Plus, the story is well told, as unless you recruit everyone, you are forced to reconsider war as you slaughter the other students, creating a beautiful moral gray. GGs I.S.
This... is beautiful.... I am going through a hard time as we speak and I literally reached for this song's 8-bit hand. I'm a bit late to this, but thank you, Branflakes. I hope You continue to make wonderful content such as this. My Spirits have been revitalized.
I haven't played the game but this song is fucking AWESOME! Very nostalgic! I'm new to Fire Emblem and am currently on the fence of buying Three Houses. I've tried Path of Radiance on the Gamecube emulator and got hooked somehow lol!
Man, I’m so glad that three houses didn’t pull a fates. If instead of Cindered shadows, we got a 4th route where everyone teams up and is all happy like revelations, it would’ve ruined the game. The best part about 3H is how each path has a good ending where Fódlan improves, but no ending is completely satisfying due to the sacrifices that had to be made. The gray morality of the Empire vs the Church was really well done in my opinion. Rhea and the church did some undeniably fucked up things, which would give Edelgard the justification for the war, but by needing the help of TWSITD, she’s seen as the bad guy by most no matter what. Sure starting a war is bad in just about any scenario, but does that include starting a war to depose a tyrannical dictator who has controlled the continent for a thousand year unopposed?
Sam Loyd the thing is, starting a war regardless of context is fucked up. The sacrifices are necessary, but it’s still kinda twisted. It seems like Edelgard is just someone with healthy morals, but poor methods.
NFRF 525 Yeah. Too bad Rhea goes insane the second you decide to not immediately execute your student. Just goes to show that peace with Rhea and the empire was probably never possible
Sam Loyd Also... *SPOILERS FOR CHURCH ROUTE* In the end of the Church Route, she becomes a rampaging dragon and tries to attack. If I’m not mistaken, this would have been a major crisis for all of Fódlan. So yeah, neither side is necessarily “right.”
NFRF 525 What about the Civil War? That was started by the North, and was pretty justified. Hell, you could even make a case that the allies started WWII, since they’re the ones who made the declaration of war. That one was absolutely justified though
MrSaxobeat While you do have a fair point, I still think a war (especially one that takes countless lives of people that don’t even want to get involved) is a messed up thing. Sure, it’s justified, but I wouldn’t exactly say it’s completely right.
I like this cover, it's very well done. Also without lyrics I can actually barely listen to it without curling into a ball of tears after about half a minute.
Imagine this being a song back in the day in an old NES game. That woulda been unreal lol. I know a real NES probably couldn't support a song like this though.

Lyrics (if people want it):
Reach for my hand,
I'll soar away
Into the dawn,
Oh, I wish I could stay
Here in cherished halls,
In peaceful days
I fear the edge of dawn,
Knowing time betrays
Faint lights pass through colored glass,
In this beloved place
Silver shines, the world dines,
A smile on each face
As joy surrounds, comfort abounds,
And I can feel I'm breaking free
For just this moment lost in time,
I am finally me
Yet still I hide,
Behind this mask that I have become
My blackened heart,
Scorched by flames, a force I can't run from
As I live out
Each peaceful day
Deep in my soul
Oh, I know I can't stay
So I wish I
Could hide away
Hold tight to what I love,
Keep cruel fate at bay
As the rain falls on the path,
I chase your shadow
I don't feel a single drop,
Or the ground below
Then you turn to me and I
Stop before I know
And the lie upon my lips
I let it go
Cross my heart
Making vows I know will be betrayed
A sad girl's pleas
Live only for a breath and then they fade
Don't ever take
Back your kind hand
Lest precious love
Slip away like time's sand
Only we will know
All that was lost
Scars that we can't erase
Show us life's true cost
The blue moonlight
Cuts across our sight
As pure and clear as a ringing bell
Reaching for us in the night
As the wind calms my thoughts,
I have strung on this terrace
I feel at peace,
Carried away by the wind's song
Open the door
And walk away
Never give in
To the call of yesterday
Memories that made
Those days sublime
These ruined halls entomb
Stolen time
Reach for my hand
I'll soar away
Into the dawn
Oh, I wish I could stay
Here in cherished halls
In peaceful days
I fear the edge of dawn
Knowing time betrays

The lines like "After all, a promise that will never come true
is what this sad girl wishes for" - since she ends up making an enemy of the one person she really wishes to be her ally. So, yeah, I also feel bad for her and wish there was a good resolution for her that wouldn't cost so many other lives :(
@@skylinwill3363 Same here, I would not mind pay for a patch who Claude, Dimitri, Edelgard and Rhea did not have to die.
@@thiagoguilhermedeoliveira4835 Rhea is so bad, death to the church.
This always makes me feel sad, like everytime this plays, sadness and nostalgic kicks in. Just that good of a song that it can me feel like such.
If "Fire Emblem: Three Houses" was released on the Famicom:
This is a bit much for that system.
I cannot explain just how much I love this game. One of the best ones I've ever played.
You know it's a good song when it sounds nice as an instrumental, when it has lyrics, and when it's in 8-bit
Can we appreciate the beauty of this game? The music team developed this song, which made me cry before I knew the meaning behind the lyrics. Plus, the story is well told, as unless you recruit everyone, you are forced to reconsider war as you slaughter the other students, creating a beautiful moral gray. GGs I.S.
This game is truly beautiful. That’s why I feel Byleth’s inclusion in Smash is deserved
You had me hooked by the first note. I now have this saved on my computer and I will *never* delete it.
This... is beautiful.... I am going through a hard time as we speak and I literally reached for this song's 8-bit hand. I'm a bit late to this, but thank you, Branflakes. I hope You continue to make wonderful content such as this. My Spirits have been revitalized.
This song always makes me feel better after a hard day
@@theknightroso1106 I'd imagine so. If anything, it does have a smooth comfort to it and it's especially hard to do that with 8-bit sounds.
0:51 to 1:13 is the best part of the song to me.
Edelgard von Hresvelg ❤
Listening to this masterpiece again in honor of the new FE 3 Hopes warriors game trailer.
My wyvern rider Edelgard was a better Daenerys than Daenerys. atleast she wasnt the one who burned an entire city
Rhea on the Edelgerd route... I'm not ashamed to say that I teared up when I killed Rhea
[cuts to Edelgard spitting repeatedly on Rhea's corpse]
Byleth: Stop... she's suffered enough.
@@mads_in_zero More like not even close to enough
@@bolt_beam well she didnt have a choice , it was either that or fight a war on 2 sides lol
@@bolt_beam Even if she did, she had little time to ensure her system would be ushered in and also expressed regret at what she had to do.
I haven't played the game but this song is fucking AWESOME! Very nostalgic! I'm new to Fire Emblem and am currently on the fence of buying Three Houses. I've tried Path of Radiance on the Gamecube emulator and got hooked somehow lol!
Me: this is a beautiful 8-Bit version.

Me: Mom please stop cutting onions right next to me
Man, I’m so glad that three houses didn’t pull a fates.
*SPOILERS FOR CHURCH ROUTE*
In the end of the Church Route, she becomes a rampaging dragon and tries to attack.
「フレスベルクの少女」ですね!
ファイアーエムブレム風花雪月めっちゃ楽しいですよね✨
日本のカラオケでも歌ってます♪
疾走感があるけど儚さもある素敵な曲の8-bit版最高です!!
I like this cover, it's very well done.
Also without lyrics I can actually barely listen to it without curling into a ball of tears after about half a minute.
THIS IS SO GOOD
This song makes me feel nostalgia I never experienced, never played FE but this bops, this song is great in 8-Bit!
This is phenomenal! Listening to this gave me chills, it was that good.
dont apologize for your pixel art choice its perfectly fitting its her track
Imagine this being a song back in the day in an old NES game. That woulda been unreal lol. I know a real NES probably couldn't support a song like this though.
I love this! Thanks so much for the dope chip tunes!
Quality is always expected from you.
Love it. 💖
This has to be one of the BEST covers of The Edge Of Dawn I've heard in a GOOD WHILE! Well done!
Awesome job on this!!
Pitch bends are perfect! Very, very nice work.
"I am the king of grappling."
Balthus, King of grappling
日本から見させていただきます!こんな素晴らしいアレンジを私は他に知りません。
I am watching this from Japan.
I don't know anything else with such a wonderful arrangement.
0:51 I burst into tears. This sounds amazing.
Fun fact: I had been avoiding as much information about Three Houses as possible to avoid spoilers, but whenever this came out I watched it mostly because I figured an 8 but track could spoil anything
5 and a half minutes later I was on my way to gamestop to buy Three Houses, and the next day I borrowed a switch to play it
Still my favorite Fire Emblem game by far and I’ve got this video specifically to thank for it
So thank you
I remember this song from the trailers and it always just sounded nice, and I love your rendition of it!
8-bit remixes can really make anything nostalgic huh
I'm not crying you are
WHO DARES TO DISLIKE THIS GOD LIKE MUSIC
This is your best work! Love this rendition!
When you are the only blue lion boy in the comments
Shhh
#BlueLionsFTW
#adopteveryblueliononVW
Oh damn you should definitely give this game a try dude!
It's really amazing and very vexing on ones feelings
Everyone playing it sees another 'true' enemy so I think it really is a good experience to make!
This remix makes me turn from a Black Eagle to a Moping Eagle 'cause 'tis so good.
I can’t go back to this game whilst knowing how poor Dimitri ends up if I don’t side with him again...
I haven’t played three houses but this is still very good! Keep up the great work!
beautiful
BRANFLAKES DOING THREE HOUSES guys I can't breathe
I never cared much about the original song, but stumbled upon this via TH-cam recommendations and absolutely love this version. Great job!
Here we go boys
Nostalgic for a game I haven’t even fully completed. Very pog.
I love this song so much
Wow, this legit makes me want to buy (or at least look more into) 3 Houses. No clue what the original track sounds like rn but this is an amazing cover, I'm super into it!
I'm crying again 😭😭😭
Same here.... same here
Stop crying...
why does this sound so good as 8bit! this is awesome!
AMAZING
This feels so nostalgic i feel like im in tears
This does make me remenber my childhood playng mega man and ninja gaiden
the 8-bit charm really hits this one hard, imo. Pixelated games and their music are always capable of evoking a simple kind of emotion and sadness that modern music is hard-pressed to replicate; this one is no exception.
Noooo it's the long version I always cry listening to the long version dammit
It occurred to me the heartbeats are perhaps symbolic of the moments in which
*spoiler!*
Byleth’s heart was forced to stop beating. Both when the Crest stone was first placed in them, as well as perhaps in Crimson Flower where it restarts after it fades away
This is incredible!
Reminds me of the early Pokémon mystery dungeon games. I like it.
Edelgard? You ok there?
"Beep beepbep. Beeeep."
She's never ok
this is an accurate representation of playing combat in handheld
Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the crests, but this... does give a smile on my face
Dancing in a chair in this study room forgot you can see inside.
This is really good! It sounds like it's from a completely different game with its own awesome 8 bit tunes.
Very nice work! I hope you do pick up 3H cuz it is really fun and engaging.
If I had to leave a recommendation for a new tune you could challenge yourself with is Celeste’s new song Farewell from the Ch. 9 OST! I think it’s fitting enough to really have that bran flakes charm ;D
Goodness, thank you for your dedication to making this it's absolutely amazing, I just finished FE3H too XD
