Please remember, some teachers are moms with families, some are single moms, some are wives with supportive partners, some are not. Teaching is hard and it is easy to burn out. Don't compare yourself to other teachers, do what you can with what you have and please don't stress yourself out with massive classroom transformations and obsessive planning. At the end of the day these kids need a reliable adult with an open ear and arms to hug them if needed. Don't get so caught up in the google docs or how you look on paper that the kids miss out.
Agreed. We all need to give ourselves some grace. Having taught for 32+ years, I can tell you that this profession will exhaust as much time as you are willing to dedicate. This can make for an extreme lack of balance between personal and professional time. Remember that work is just a piece of the pie. Family time is so much more important. Don't allow this to give you anxiety. It is unrealistic and unsustainable.
I’m so glad you are feeling better mentally after deciding to go back to the classroom. Any time you make a big decision like that it takes time to figure it out and make sure you want to change directions. Proud of you for being brave enough to follow your intuition!
You spent money that benefits your new job and to further education which is a plus. A no-spend month is always flexible because of life. Having goals and doing your best is all we can do. Life is tough enough, so we need to give yourself grace. You are doing so well in always trying to improve. Way to go.
I love learning Spanish with Duolingo. It is so much fun. It is visually so much fun, easy to understand, and they even use that in our middle schools so I heard students excited about learning. We have other languages that I wanted to learn like basic words to say to students (good morning, listen, hello, and etc). Duolingo had Swahili and knowing a few words brought such a smile from my students.
I ended up going with Babbel for now but might try Duolingo at some point in the future... thanks for the recommendation and for sharing your experience with it!
Awesome! I came here to say this since I've been keeping up my Spanish practice using Duolingo and it's been a nice way to have one goal done each day. And yesterday I noticed how much vocab I remember now than when I was studying it in school. I can actually put it into practice now, but I've also heard good things from babbel and italki. I like the latter for learning ASL. Enjoy! @@PocketfulofPrimary
We can see how happy u r about going back to the classroom. I will admit that i thought u were disenfranchised and would never go back but, you are a talented teacher and your county and kids will be blessed!!! Im just having fun watching what you're up to. Happy July!
I have to say I’m so glad that you are teaching again. I have never myself wanted to be a teacher but I used to watch your videos when you started out teaching and I loved seeing your passion for what you were doing and your genuine care for your students. Then when you stopped teaching and your passion shifted to teaching teachers for me it just lost a bit of something. I have checked in on what you were doing every so often and when I recently saw that you had videos out about getting back into teaching it excited me quite a bit. You should ALWAYS pursue what makes you happy but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I am glad that once again includes seeing you in the classroom again.
My one and only grocery savings tip i use right now is that sometimes I'll make a Walmart order and not put it through. Then I'll go to Aldi and use my Walmart order as my shopping list and compare the prices. If its cheaper at Aldi i buy it there. If not, i leave it on the list and put the order through once i leave Aldi. Its not as complicated as it sounds and saves me a few dollars every time.
Listen I have been following you on your podcast with your bestie..I am a teacher with over 20 yrs but I looove listening to u on the podcast and am sooo exited u r going back to teaching..in my heart I knew u would!
Hi Michelle! Congratulations on heading back into the classroom. I am a local teacher in the Austin area. I know restocking a classroom can be a lot. So I wanted to let you know about a place just south of Austin in San Marcos Texas. It is called The Teacher Reuse. They take donations from schools and retired teachers who are giving away stuff. It is a nonprofit where teachers can get items for free. You should check them out.
Happy Wednesday, Michelle! Congratulations on passing your ESL exam and achieving your certification! I wish you well on the upcoming TAG professional development sessions you have. I always enjoy seeing how you did with your monthly goals; I think you definitely met the no spend goal. For language practice, I love the Duolingo app for practicing Spanish. I just use the free version, but sometimes the app gives you a free trial for the paid version. I hope Billy's car issues improve soon. I always enjoy hearing about your monthly books. I am reading Tiny Habits that you recommended. I just finished two biographies. I am still working on 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom. It is a PD book from my county last year and it is very helpful for English Language Learners, but really it is just best practice for any students. The Ninja Creami looks high quality, fun, and cost-effective. The mix-in possibilities looked fun, as well! I hope you and your family have a great Fourth of July. I can't wait to see your next vlog! 💜
Happy Wednesday Mandy! 🥰 Thank you so much for the congratulations and for the well wishes on my upcoming trainings... you're so sweet! 🖤 I appreciate your thoughts on Duolingo... I ended up going to Babbel for now but might give Duolingo a go in the future at some point. Wow, you're also on a reading roll! That's fantastic! 🎉 I'll have to check out that book because I haven't read it. But, I hope you and your family have a wonderful July 4th holiday tomorrow as well... stay safe and enjoy all the festivities! 😍
I’m so excited that you are going back into classrooms. Because you helping me so much . As I’m going to be a senior this coming school. Year and I want to be a teacher and I love that you help me give me good ideas .
I am enjoying watching the path back into the classroom for you! Because I was watching videos of "What's in my teacher bag", I was thinking I'd love to see a new one from you that is something along the lines of "What I plan to bring in my teacher bag" since it's been awhile. I am loving the more frequent vlogs!
It’s so easy to spend a lot of money on classroom stufff! Make a wishlist and post it, I bet you’ll get some help! I love the vlogs! Love the planning, it helps me to motivate myself to plan myself. Congrats on your esl test!
I really enjoy watching your old classroom Vlogs I watched the ones from like 7/8 years ago to this day so I’m super excited to see what this new experience looks like!
I loved hearing about your no-spend month! Also enjoyed the budgeting episode of your podcast! Would love to hear more budgeting/financial things, since I am on a debt free journey.
Aww, thank you so much for your feedback Erin! That's super sweet of you and I'm happy you enjoyed the budgeting/no-spend month content! 🥰 Best of luck to you on your debt free journey! 🎉
Congrats on passing your test! I would love to see what you’re prepping before being able to get into the classroom. What are you putting together in terms of procedures, checklists, routines, management and expectations.
Congrats! I kust knew you would pass. I had a feeling at the end of the last video. Im excited for you! Anything you want to make a video on is cool, but id love the budgetting for your class and set up videos. Billy is awesome! All the love to you both!
Congratulations! Way to go getting it done before the school year even starts. I didn't schedule mine until the end of the school year and then Covid hit! It got postponed until the beginning of the next school year!😢
So many good nuggets in this vlog… I love the “Peach and Pit” check-in idea! Definitely using that in my tech classes this year! i also read “Just for the Summer” by Abby Jimenez last month because I kept seeing it on Libby (I’m an audiobook girly 😎). I thought it was a really cute story and would recommend it to others. I just found out that it’s actually book 3 in a series 😮! Thanks for sharing with us, looking forward to your next vlog!
¡Felicitations parabien pasaste tu prueba! If you can't tell, I'm not a native speaker, but I did take Spanish classes from 7th grade to college. I lost some of it. However, I teach in a bilingual school , so I get to practice it. Buena suerte para tu clase de la certificacón. 🤩
Wow, my whole food plant based food diet runs around $150 to $200 a week. I'm doing no spend July. No new classroom materials or clothes. I'm returning to the classroom after being an interventionist. I gave a lot away 5 years ago, not restocking. Using what is at school. Retiring in 3 years.
Yeah, I definitely don't eat a strictly whole food plant based diet... I eat anything and everything 😂 But, I do tend to get leaner cuts of meat which can be pricier. Best of luck to you on your no-spend July!
Yes, I have a bunch of food intolerances which means anything processed is twice as expensive as regular food, such as bread. Because I don’t have time to make everything from scratch I spend about $150 per week on groceries just for myself. It’s nice to know I am not the only one!
I love that you will be teaching in TX. I am a math and science curriculum coach in El Paso, TX. We also use Eureka Math I absolutely love it I hope you do too! It is not super aligned to STAAR so heads up! I learned so much from you my first years of teaching.
I’m happy that you are going to teach again! You look so happy!😊 I look forward to listening to you! My question is: How do you feel about homework? I work in an urban low income school district. I am teaching a primary grade and would like to at least give Reading for 15 min 4 nights a week as homework on a monthly reading calendar. Homework is optional at my district. Thoughts???
It's ok Michelle. When your brain is crammed and there is not a whole lot of room for that brain to work with ..... things can get kind of messy. With that said, so glad that you have passed that exam. It's always good to be in that position where you can get the load out of the way like that. I think you did a great job with your no spend goal! All expenses were justified , in my opinion. And wow! Your grocery bill- very low ! Congratulations on passing the test! 💖
The good thing about that certification is that in 4 or 5 years when you have to re-up, you can renew ALL of those certifications and endorsements for the low cost of $25 in just one shot. 😁
Hi Michelle!!! Welcome back to the classroom. I recently watched your video, “This is What Teaching Should Be Like”…how about a video on “Return of This is What Teaching Should Be Like”. Did you change anything from the start of your career? What will your older self say to your younger self? 💝👩🏻🏫🍎🌸
Congratulations on passing your ESL test!! I teach 6th grade Spanish 1 and the students use Duolingo as a warm up, some really like it!!! I used it to learn Italian but didn’t keep it up!! 😒
I never miss your vlogs but I’m not remembering the one where you organized your office? Or books? I’d be totally interested in watching it because I love you and I love organizing so could someone please link? Or give the name? Thanks in advance!
Yeah, I’ve tried that but honestly didn’t love how it mixed it. I’ve also done an immersion blender but found it easiest to just use my blender cups and pour it in.
Yay, congrats on passing your ESL exam!! 🥳 Ready Or Not and Just for the Summer are on my "to be read" list. In spanish the letter J makes an H sound so phonetically Jimenez would be He-menez.🙂 I hope it was okay to share that. And omg, the ice cream pics you shared looked amazingly delicious!!!!
I'm completely aware of how J is pronounced in Spanish, just for the record 😅 I know Jimenez has ancestry primarily tied to Spanish and Portuguese origins, but I know there are other ancestries tied to it as well so I didn't assume it would be pronounced with Spanish letter sounds, if that makes sense.
Yes to Duolingo! Your new obsession is #goals. I need to buy a ninja creamy now! I love making ice cream! You should do rock paper scissors to end your block time in your classes! Awesome job passing ESL!
You know I love your longer videos! By the way, I had no doubt in my mind that you would pass! You always accomplish what you set your mind to! Are you going to do anymore sit down tutorial videos? Still dying to have an extensive tutorial on how you make your creative gifs! Starting my day with one of your videos always inspires me to be my best most productive self! Now it’s time for my walk while I listen to your podcast! Happy 4th of July!
Hi Michelle! I love your videos. You really inspire me to be more productive and grow as a teacher. I'll be teaching 4th/5th grade resource rokm this upcoming school year and also some in class support. Im assuming the in class support will be for science/social studies and the resource room is math/ela. I'm going to my new school next week to meet with my principal and some colleagues. This will be my 5th year teaching, but as mentioned, I'm in a new school/district. I've taught 4th before, but not really 5th. I did a leave replacement in 5th for an in class support teacher in May 202p, so that's why I say not really 5th. Lol. I look forward to seeing how this upcoming school year goes for you, and if you know anyone who teaches resource room and can give me advice, please let me know. Thanks!
Congrats on passing your ESL test. Tests and certifications are so expensive! Not to mention needing transcripts for new jobs. I also have a Ninja creamy that my sons bought me almost 2 years ago for my birthday. I didn't use it much while I was finishing my teaching degree, but I have been using it a lot the past month or so. I like being able to have different flavors without spending on larger containers. Mine came from Wal-Mart (my boys all worked there at the time, so I think they used their discounts) and came with 4 containers and I ordered 4 more, so we have 8 for 5 people. Unfortunately, July will probably go by too quickly, and I start back in the middle of August, with a few days before that!
Congrats on passing the certification test. I have to do that for FL before the end of the the upcoming school year. Looking forward to all that you will share in the month of July. I love your quote to taking it “as it comes” in a way. Get some rest and all the best in the days and month ahead.
For the certification you're talking about, is it the TESOL endorsement? I'm actually completing the TESOL program this year to add to my current teaching license. I was trying to figure out if you and Michelle are referring to that or something different? Thanks!
@@maryelizabeth1443 TESOL is the equivalent to other state tests for teachers of second language learners. In FL, we call it ESOL, and other states may use different acronyms, but it is equivalent to Texas TESOL.
@@eyobanion Thanks! In my state it's called TESOL. Do you mind if I ask- so you're a current teacher needing to obtain the endorsement, right? I'm wondering if you have to take any coursework for it or because you're currently teaching in a classroom and have experience working with ELL students, you don't need the coursework and only need to take the exam?
@@maryelizabeth1443 I am a Special Education Inclusion teacher. Because I am new to the district, and it wasn’t a previous requirement, I am in the midst of finishing my last two courses. I think, but not sure, I am able to test out. My masters degree is in Deaf Education, so many of these “courses” cross with courses I took while earning my degree. However, to ensure I am prepared for any final testing, and because I don’t have intensive experience with any language or 2nd language other than ASL, I am taking the courses to be prepared.
Learning Spanish is one of my goals too. This Summer I'm trying the Lingoda Sprint program. We'll see how it goes. If I complete 15 lessons a month (they're on Zoom) over 2 months, I earn 50% cash back.
I have been feeling very conflicted about becoming a teacher. I live in Texas as well & the changes that the government has made the last few years have made me hesitant. 😭
The biggest change has been The Science of Teaching Reading exam. It can be daunting if you're new to teaching reading because of all the terminology, but it is really important for teachers to know thay info. There's some great videos on TH-cam breaking down all the terminology so that can be a way of studying. Playdough to Plato also has an excellent paid training.
I have a playlist of fitness and nutrition videos on my channel here: th-cam.com/play/PLzMt-laLU9XzihcnnqK5neQxiaOwuf7h1.html But, I'll definitely be including bits and pieces of that in my vlogs throughout the school year when it's relevant 🥰🖤
I am reading that book now and I am loving it. If you’re into or want to try something new I have been reading Isabel Maldanado books. They remind me of NCIS series and I never thought I would like them. They are so Good!! Congrats on passing your exam. 🎉 Isn’t it crazy how much Texas charges for each certification🤦🏻♀️ I can’t even tell you how much I have spent in these past two months for my Texas certification but finally done with a 5 year cert. Do you have to do the Vector trainings?
Ooo, thank you for the recommendation... I'll check those out! Also, thank you very much for the congrats! I appreciate your support! 🥰 Yeah, it's pretty crazy how expensive it can get. I'm not sure about Vector trainings... I haven't been told anything about those yet so we shall see.
@@PocketfulofPrimary In 2018 my grandmother introduced me the Duolingo aplication, I learn Italian through the application as my first language, I am learning Portuguese as my second language.
This is kinda random but Abby Jimenez's last name would be pronounced (he-men-ez) considering it's a Spanish last name. Just figured you'd want to know the right way to pronounce it.
If you're referring to my Teaching Theater sessions from the Figma for EDU booth at ISTE, the answer is no... those were exclusive for that event (at least as of now... unless Figma asks me to present them as a webinar or something in the future).
I didn't find the STR exam challenging from a content standpoint, but I do think it was a harder test since there was an essay. But they both had their easy and hard questions!
LOL! Yes, I'm a pretty fast reader. But, I also dedicated my entire day to reading the study guide book so it was over the course of around 10-12 hours.

@@PocketfulofPrimary it makes total sense. 🙂
Girl ❤ Im on my treadmill as watching so do your thing and congratulations 🎉
Yes to Duolingo! Your new obsession is #goals. I need to buy a ninja creamy now! I love making ice cream! You should do rock paper scissors to end your block time in your classes! Awesome job passing ESL!
In Pennsylvania it's $250 to add stuff to your certification 🙃
Thanks!
Duolingo I find amazing I am learning Japanese at the minute and finding it really good
Duolingo is great. I'm learning French with no prior knowledge. On day 511 and I have learned 750 words. :)
I love Duolingo. I use the app to learn Italian. 😊
I ended up going to Babbel for now, but I might look into Duolingo in the future... thanks for the input!
I would love to see a video that shows your video editing workflow. Editing seems to be the biggest challenge and time sucker for me!
I have a previous video on my channel about how I edit if you want to check it out:
th-cam.com/video/AmTwR03VM_w/w-d-xo.html
have you made a ninja creami using a protein shake as a base ?? total gamechanger
Thank you so much for the congrats! I really appreciate it! 🥰 I'm happy you're using the Ninja Creami again 🎉
Congrats on passing the certification test. I have to do that for FL before the end of the the upcoming school year. Looking forward to all that you will share in the month of July. I love your quote to taking it “as it comes” in a way. Get some rest and all the best in the days and month ahead.
Aww, thank you so much! I really appreciate that and am grateful for you watching and commenting 🥰🖤
Congratulations on passing the test!!
Do you have a link to your big water bottle? I love that it has a straw and looks insulated.
Where did you get your walking desk?
Congrats on passing your test!
Learning Spanish is one of my goals too. This Summer I'm trying the Lingoda Sprint program. We'll see how it goes. If I complete 15 lessons a month (they're on Zoom) over 2 months, I earn 50% cash back.
Ahh, keep me updated with your thoughts when you finish! I'd love to hear!
Congrats on passing the exam. How many certifications are you seeking? It seems like they can be expensive. Continued success with your endeavors! 😊
Just the ones that were required for now! They definitely can get expensive. Thanks for your kind words and support! 🥰🖤
@@PreferablyPreK Thank you so much for the info!
I'm curious how you track your fitness and macros! Would love to have a better handle on this while in the classroom too.
I have a playlist of fitness and nutrition videos on my channel here:
th-cam.com/play/PLzMt-laLU9XzihcnnqK5neQxiaOwuf7h1.html
But, I'll definitely be including bits and pieces of that in my vlogs throughout the school year when it's relevant 🥰🖤
Lakeshore learning is about to have a huge sale starting July 15
I love their back to school sale! I'll probably check out my local store... thanks for the reminder!
Where is that office art piece on your floating shelves?
My birthday is the 21! My husband’s was yesterday. He is 19 days older.
Happy early birthday! You have the same birthday as Billy 🥰 I hope your husband had a wonderful birthday yesterday as well 🎉
My daughter’s birthday is also on the 21st. She will be turning 2 years old. 🎉
Congrats on passing your test! 🎉
Thank you so much! 🖤
I love learning Italian and Portuguese in: Duolingo,Memrise and Mango Languages.
I ended up going to Babbel for now, but I might look into Duolingo in the future... thanks for the input!
@@PocketfulofPrimary you are welcome
@@PocketfulofPrimary In 2018 my grandmother introduced me the Duolingo aplication, I learn Italian through the application as my first language, I am learning Portuguese as my second language.
@@PocketfulofPrimary I speak Spanish (My native language) and English.
I love the book recommendations, you should do that more often.
I've been doing it every month of 2024 if you go back and watch some of the previous vlogs at the end of each month!
This is kinda random but Abby Jimenez's last name would be pronounced (he-men-ez) considering it's a Spanish last name. Just figured you'd want to know the right way to pronounce it.
It’s my new obsession too!
It's a total game changer... I look forward to my Creami pint every night 😂😍
Will you create a website for your new class? I did mine based on you tutorial done during pandemic.
I'm so happy you were able to use the tutorial! I will have to check with my team to see what they typically do before I make any decisions.
Will your sessions be available online at any point?
If you're referring to my Teaching Theater sessions from the Figma for EDU booth at ISTE, the answer is no... those were exclusive for that event (at least as of now... unless Figma asks me to present them as a webinar or something in the future).
Thank you for the video
Now I can hear
Happy you got it fixed... sounds like a TH-cam problem not specific to my video!
It's very interesting. It's really good
I use Duolingo to learn / sharpen my Italian and like it.
I ended up going to Babbel for now, but I might look into Duolingo in the future... thanks for the input!
Congratulations 🎊
Thank you so much! 🖤
Can we have recipes. i have a Ninja Creami. also.
Congrats 🎊🎉
Thank you so much! 🖤
I got my scores from the ESL exam yesterday as well. My score also matched my STR score 😂
LOL! That's too funny... we're twins! Congratulations on taking and passing the exam 🥰🎉 Go celebrate!
Super🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much! 🖤
I can hear
The STR was WAAAAY harder than the ESL in my opinion. I walked out of the STR test like "what the heck was that?!?"
I didn't find the STR exam challenging from a content standpoint, but I do think it was a harder test since there was an essay. But they both had their easy and hard questions!
the exams look to be very similar. Join the club $75 and $150 here in Florida. Lol! Trust me i know how you feel :)
Duolingo is the best in my opinion

You read so fast!
LOL! Yes, I'm a pretty fast reader. But, I also dedicated my entire day to reading the study guide book so it was over the course of around 10-12 hours.
Spending money on certifications for work doesn’t break your goal. This was a necessity, not frivolous purchasing.
I totally agree... I'm happy we were on the same page 🥰😂
… there is definitely plenty of sound 😂
