That was made possible owing to his magical voice and inimitable style of gayiki ! The agonies and ecstasies of life got fully reflected in the renditions of the great Khan Saab ! He had an uncanny ability to render the tragic and romantic nuances of the Urdu couplets with equal proficiency and consummate ease ! How right was Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab in his assessment in saying - "No one can ever compete with Mehdi Hassan Saab in so far as his control over Sur was concerned !" Here, in this ghazal, it was as if the beautiful kalam of Alta Tasna Saab had found life in the divine voice of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab! What a beautiful composition it was ! How soulful was the great Khan Saab in performing it ! What a wonderful feeling it has been ! I have enjoyed it thoroughly ! It's my pleasure ! I stick to, stand by what I have stated in my narrative, herein above ! For me -- it makes no difference at all ! Throughout his entire life, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had to struggle a lot -- from bicycle puncture repairer to tractor mechanic and than to Pakistan Radio artist -- to make his both ends meet, after migrating to Pakistan from India in 1947, along with his parents, immediately after partition of the country ! It was through sheer hard work, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to his work, which made the great Mehdi Hassan Saab blossomed into the finest exponent of ghazal gayiki in the world ever ! It goes without saying that It's not possible for an ordinary mortal to scale such a Height of Excellence , unless one is very highly endowed ! That the great Mehdi Hassan Saab's talent was inborn was exemplified by a small incident ! At the tender age of eight, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab happened to render a khayal for 45 minutes in the court of the Naharaja of Baroda in presence of Ußtad Azam Khan and Ustad Ismail Khan, his father and uncle, respectively ! He was inducted into the court of the Maharaja of Baroda, immediately there after ! The incident was narrated by the great Mehdi Hassan Saab himself in a live interview, which is also available on TH-cam via LokVirsa ! How right was the great William Shakespeare in his assessment in saying - "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them !"Perhaps, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had achieved greatness on his own accord !
