  • How can I remove the defrost plastic piece? Does it not come off or do you have to cut it? Where can I buy an aftermarket part to replace everything?
I'm doing this to clean up all the layers of dust and junk that are in the vent tubing. Will also change the blower motor and heater core.
This is called the air distribution system.
    Please Help
    Thanks

Well my comment is probably too late but the way to get it out is to tuck the corner of the driver's side vent underneath the speedometer cable grab the far end of the passenger side vent and lift up in a counter clockwise motion. The plastic on the driver vent will flex but it will come loose.

That's the ticket, getting it at the right angle. Also, you may have to use some carefuldirect pressure to get it to "pop" loose

What kind of a car or truck is this happening in? Sounds like something is being blocked right by the heater core. Or a vent is stuck shut. Need more info.

After you moved the speedo cable towards the windshield, did it come out ?

Say what? It is held in by a retaining clip as I remember. If it is the mechanical cable then it should pop out easily by a clip. Is that what you mean?

What are you trying to do? Remove the dash? Remove the gauge cluster?

Check the door vent vacuums and make sure they work or the vacuum lines are not cut or anything. I put my dash back in and the vents wouldn't change correctly cuz I had the lines wrong on the 2 door vent actuator things. Check that out. Also my right vent doesn't have very much air coming out either. And they are all clean and working. I think it is just like that.

Going to have to check the vents path and see if there is something blocking. Which I would assume you did already. If it is only coming out of the defrost vents that means the flapper right behind the stereo is stuck open or something I think. I took my dash apart to replace the firewall padding not for vent issues. But mine are clean like brand new right now which is another thing I wanted to do. Gonna have to take stuff apart. Take the stereo out and the big plastic part the stereo mounts to and that should give you a lot of space.
