    Thanks Paul for giving a clear & wonderful explanation of El Niño and what we could expect for the upcoming winter. It’s almost as if you were teaching a class. Both you & Darren Peck are my favorite meteorologists on these topics.

    I’ll believe it when I see it. Long term forecasting? You guys had no idea how much rain we would get this year.

    just last year this guy was saying that the entire west coast was going to be in a drought for decades.. due to dry conditions at the time.. this year california had historic levels of rain and snow.. all reservoirs and lakes filled to over max capacity..

    So, correct me if I am wrong, the Pacific Northwest (I live in Vancouver) will get warmer and less rain during the winter season? We get to trade our weather with SoCal.
    If true... Long live El Nino!!!!!!! May you return more often.

    If anyone was around in march of 1995 can you describe the flooding? I remember someone said we in salinas may become classified as an island again like in 1995 back in january after the heavy rains we concurred. Itd be nice to also know if it was caused by el niño because the graph he showed shows a small el niño in 1995. I want to be prepared if this el niño will be worse than January's flooding if it happens and what are the chances of it being worse than january 2023 or march 1995 in the case that it does occur.

    I want more rain and less heat. It was was too hot the past few summers. I thought moving to SF from LA would be cooler but not since 2021.

    The Australian weather guy says, unfortunately, the Pacific Ocean is hot in a bunch of other places where it didn't used to be, already, which could cause seriously improbable probabilities. 😳 The movie will be called 'El Ninõ Meets Climate Change.' Premieres mid-August. Sneak previews TBA.

    Sure. And La Nina was supposed to mean dry winters. How did the 22/23 rainy season with La Nina end? The "experts" really have no clue.

    We need another El Nino in California as of today, Saturday, May 20, 2023. Our reservoirs are full but they still did let trillions of gallons flow down the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers to the Delta and out to sea this winter of 2023. We do NOT have enough water storage. They say they will divert water out to areas in the San Joaquin Valley with permeable soil so it can perc into the vast aquifer under there. I have yet to hear reports of where that is being done in the SJV. It needs to be done. Our aquifer, and it has a name, is way lower than it once was. Vast overpumping of it has occurred as ag and cities try to get enough water. In some places, wells 1500 feet deep have been sunk, causing ground subsidence. It is the overpumping of water by those wells that has caused the ground subsidence, not the mere drilling of the wells.

      Restore lake tulare. We do not need any new reservoirs. Reservoirs will be dry in dry years and full in wet years.

    why's everyone bypassing the fact that mammoth just set record snowfall during a la Nina. Southern Cali isn't supposed to set precip records during a la Nina.

      That influences the climate.

      Lmao....what ? We barely started measuring pacific ocean temperatures 100 years ago....and even then is was just off shore in 1 spot near San Diego.....you're watching too much CNN....facts matter lady.

    • @cabot100
      @cabot100 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is weather and ocean temperature monitoring equipment the length of the coast, mostly located in channel marking buoys. Most of these have been there for a number of years.
      As you wrote...facts matter, lady.

      @obijuankenobi420 must be nice to pretend it's all a joke and not real. It that what you tell your kids when they asked you why you did nothing to help slow it down? That you had them anyway even knowing the state of the planet. What ever makes you sleep at night Mt friend but I imagine your kids will be fuming one day and you'll be like... "oh! Soz. Enjoy the got weather"
      Lol
