    I did a search for "art journal watercolor" and some of your videos came up. Love your style, loose but not abstract. I just subscribed and binge watching now. Happy I found you!

    This was very informative. You’re right. Too many art tool are intimidating. I think you just identified my dilemma. Thank you.

    Your comments about using minimal art materials is so true; I have a butterfly mind wanting to try one art media, then another. I am limiting myself to your drawing techniques and oil pastels in an effort to reduce then variables and focus on just a few themes.

    Thank you so much for your informative tutorials. I haven’t painted at all for years; so I’m new to the techniques and in need of help to get started again. Your info is invaluable.

    Hello Becky, I love the minimalist aspect. It is too common to believe that a lot of art material is needed to be a good artist

    i"m catching up on your videos 😊 i love to have the smallest amount of material, not only on the go but also at home. I would get "lost" if I bought more tools than the basics (ink pen, small palette and a few color pencils)

    Thanks for sharing Becky. I've been loving your videos and looking forward to doing your classes. A quick question - did you change out the colours in your paints? Looking at the Mungyo set of 12 online, they don't have burnt sienna or ultramarine - which seem to be used a lot for painting urban sketches.

    • @BeckyCao
      @BeckyCao  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angela, the Mungyo set of 12 contains a color named "light red" which is very much like burnt Sienna. The "cobalt blue" is very similar to ultramarine blue.

    Oh and I was unable to find the watercolor brushes you have. Have you tried the pentel ones? I was going to try them.

    • @BeckyCao

      Not sure about Pentel, but I've tried Sakura and Holbein and these work well. :)

    Like to know why you prefer drawing with ink over pencil on your journal? Also I find this set of 6 uni pin drawing pen range from 0.03, 0.05, 0.1,0.3,0.5,0.8 do I really need that small size like 0.03 or 0.05 for drawing? Do you buy a set or individual size? Thanks!

    • @BeckyCao
      @BeckyCao  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the journaling experience should be spontaneous and expressive, and that's why I draw directly with ink pen. Drawing with pencil may cause constant erasing, and make the process no fun. I like the clear solid lines created with ink pens.
      I actually never use the 0.03 and 0.05 pens because I don't go into that deep details with drawing. Most of the time I use 0.8, 0.5, and 0.3.

    I’ve been trying this, but I must be using the wrong type of paper/sketchbook because the pages get too wet and bleed through to the other side. Is there a particular weight of paper or texture that you recommend?

    • @BeckyCao
      @BeckyCao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd recommend papers with at least 90lb weight, 110lb+ the most ideal. Any paper with lighter weight will buckle and colors may run to the other side with multiple washes.

    How heavy is the paper in your sketchbook?

    • @BeckyCao
      @BeckyCao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The paper is 140lb, Canson XL watercolor pad.
