    First off, let me say that when you speak, your enthusiasm and love for the GI Joe products clearly shines through. There are many collectors who show off their collection in giant lit-up glass cabinets. I truly enjoy seeing these videos of Joe & Cobra vehicles out in natural environments just like where we used to play with them! With the exception being that your environments are WAY more beautiful than mine ever were. Seriously, that ocean sunset view shining through the canopies is breathtaking. I see a ton of TH-camrs who get sent free stuff from big toy companies to do a quick lazy review of their products, Hasbro should be ringing your phone off the hook, my friend. One last thing, I enjoy when Joe fans mention the filecards. As a kid, these were always fun to me and along with the comics, were the script for my playtime w/ the Joes. I clipped them out and kept them in a plastic index card file alphabetically. A few years ago I actually met Larry Hama and got to ask him a few questions at a comic convention panel. It was a dream come true for me. I watched him drink coffee and draw a pic of Snake-Eyes. It's great to see that as adults Gi Joe can continue to entertain us. I couldn't help but to smile a bit when you were launching the missles off and making the sound effect, I always do that too! Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to seeing more videos like this. YO JOBURG!

      Wow! I love this comment! Thank you for taking the time to respond so fully. You may envy our backdrop, but damn do I envy your Larry Hama meeting. That's something I would never forget. As I get older, GI Joe's importance continues to grow. It's such an important connection to the past for all of us. Even if "life stuff" gets in the way, we'll never lose that part of us that makes sound effects as we fire a missile; or drive our vehicle over the dunes. YO JOBURG buddy!!!

    same for me, this thing was the most played with toy I had. I stayed at my grandparents every summer as a kid and this was played with in the pool almost everyday all day. Despite its' ridiculousness it was one of my all time favorite toys

    Great channel! My cousin and I both got this for Christmas in 90'. The Hammerhead was completely badass, but almost too badass for my collection as a kid. I mostly focused on figures and smaller support vehicles. Then you break this beast out in a battle and it's like, "Shit! Cobra won again!" I agree it would have been cooler without the detachable subs, and should have just focused on different weapon turrets, or some type of main tank turrets.

      @@gijoburg Hasbro successfully killed GI Joe. The 25th Anniversary line started great. Then greed took over. In the 1980s, may be 10-15 new carded figs a year. Hasbro was pumping out ten figures quarterly it seemed. No new vehicle molds made (two part Skystriker does not count, they made it a one seat aircraft), just rehashing old stuff. I gave up in GI Joe during the Money Bags Destro fiasco. A ton of arctic Destro sitting on pegs, nothing new for months after that. That and the disrespect given, by Hasbro, to one of my most beloved characters from ARAH, Ripcord. Then they had the gall to rename him Specialist Altitude, an entirely different figure that was not even a HALO jumper. Great vids though. Now for more.

    Great great great review!!! I watch you play with your toy on the beach, and I think about how rugged the Joe vehicles were made back then. Yes! I loved my Hammerhead, it was the largest Cobra vehicle I had. I always used it as an deep water vehicle to protect my Cobra undersea base. I've recently been on the search for the few parts I need to restore mine. It always bothered me that there wasn't a third missile launcher for the spoiler. It felt incomplete and I've always wondered if mine was just missing one out of the box. I think I'll get an extra just to put there. I didn't have a Cobra Commander figure until much, much later so Decimator often filled in a leadership role since he had that cool officer looking torso! He was always one of my favorites. Sadly I've realized he is missing so I'm bummed about that.
    I remember Walmart had an entire top shelf row (plus overstock in their clothes dept!) of Hammerheads and being in awe. I love how you guys show the vehicles in an appropriate environment. So awesome!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was my largest Cobra vehicle too! Thing about the spoiler attachment point for the missile launcher - it’s not a snug fit, certainly not as snug as the subs. I could be remembering wrong, but it’s possible that the missile launcher can go onto the post on top of the black command pod if you remove the radar... and I think the radar unit can go on the spoiler. No idea where the designers were going with all that. My radar unit broke early in the game!
      Sorry about your Decimator. He is a fine figure alright.
      Thanks for the comment!

      @@gijoburg I remember mixing parts around too lol. I've noticed a break point on my torpedo subs at the junction where the top fin meets the others near the engine. Have you had that problem? • @gijoburg

    I love to put the Hydro Viper on the sled since the clip allows it to wear its feet flippers and tank. Why, if you do it right, you can tuck its pet ray between his torso and sled for a snug fit to join the ride. Also, formbat found a way to attrach his harpoon gun to his air tank, so he can carry a full combat load on the sled by using his good hand to hold his knife and his flipper hand to drive with the joystick.

    What's interesting is that you open the canopy of the subs quite easily and all the way up. My experience is that these can be quite brittle and should not be opened beyond the point where it has friction with the hull.

      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you encountered a few cracked tabs? I did break an arm off the command sub caused by rough childhood play. But I superglued it at the time and after treating it with the care a known break deserves, it's remained securely glued! The side subs do feel like they were designed to go vertical tho. And the canopies on the main vehicle of mine have no trouble flipping all the way back! In fact, when I submerged the Hammerhead in the recent Barracuda vid I had to stick them down as trapped air bubbles would pop them open as she dived beneath the water!

    @trevynlane8094 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking at the Hammerhead as a practical vehicle, Cobra probably considered the parasite vehicles disposable short range attack vehicles. Vehicles of that size would not have long range, but would be able to attack from shallow water at nearby Joe WHALEs and SHARCs and overwhelm them by shear numbers. The buggy section itself would provide fire support and SAM coverage from behind the easily replaced parasite craft.

    • @trevynlane8094
      @trevynlane8094 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The expended parasite craft would be ditched instead of redocking, being considered ordinance by high command, and the (surviving) Eels would ride back to base in the buggy. Redocking parasite craft is always harder then undocking parasite craft, and requires a lot more training and more risk (it is why there are no real life helicarriers and mother subs in real life)

      @@gijoburg indeed, and historically an effective one. That said, the parasite craft may be expendable, but the crew can bail and swim to a rendezvous point or board the buggy for the trip back to base... unless they are operated by BATs.

    Watching this video is what partially got me back into 'Joe collecting. I recently bought one of these and love it..I think it's one of the strongest vehicles in the latter part of the ARAH run but it pains me to hear Steve speak so critically of the the mini vehicles on this beast! While I agree with what he's saying, I think all the interchangeability makes up for the mediocrity of some of the components of the Hammerhead. You can go stealthy and have it crawl on the ocean floor, or have a team of Techno Vipers trick out the torpedo subs for sea -to-land launches. The imagination can run wild when you have all the parts in place!

    Any problem with rust from salt water?

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Your screws will rust quite a bit quicker from salt water. And worse, the salt will dry on the T-bar and freeze the figures legs, requiring you to deconstruct the figure and wash or even sand the buildup away! So be sure to wash with fresh water after ocean play. Vehicles however have all-plastic construction and handle salt just fine! Though I always give em a freshwater rinse afterwards anyway. Hope that helps!
