I just got 16 baby lithops this is really help full. I going to plant them all in pot big rock pot. But I will going to drop water only. Thank u
that sounds great! Make sure to only water when the soil is thoroughly dry
Summary:
Lithops:
-Watering: soak when soil is dry during spring. Only water in summer if they're really shriveled, if this happens do not soak, only water a 1/2" deep. Resume typical watering in late summer until early fall. In winter do not water.
-Sunlight: east or south facing window preferred for sunlight. If leaves get too tall or lose color, place the lithops in a sunnier spot.
-Drainage hole, tall pot.
-well drained, gritty soil.
I saw a video where they said it need to be watered JUST twice a year and i was shocked but i understand better now 😅
@@Mami_of_2 I heard that too!!!!!!
I recently bought one lithops to go with my cacti planter, and named him Gregory. He’s so cute. He was labeled a “living stone” and I was intrigued, because I had never seen one before. I’ve been doing as much research as I can to keep him healthy and this video was very informative! Thank you! I’ll probably buy Gregory some siblings soon!
So lovely! Hope that Gregory is always healthy 🥰
Long live Gregory the Great
Happy summer Gregory you sound like you have a wonderful wonderful mommy take care of each other and grow big and strong
Wow, thank you! This was great information! I on a fluke thought I might see if these little guys were different! I am so in love with my Lithops! The dormant time I would have done the wrong thing! Thank you!
So glad you like it 🥰
Informative, thanks for keeping it concise!
Thank you Alexa
I wanted to plant lithops but was unsure how to take care, this video help me understand
Awesome!!!
I've never had a plant before, but decided to get this one out shopping today. He came in a small turtle looking pot, but basing off this video I think i might need a bigger one. When I looked at him closer I didn't see much of the roots, but he had this blue/green ring around him that kinda looks like a small mesh bucket he was put in but not sure what it is. Any help would be great, I don't know much about them!
Hi there, we're not sure what is the blue/green ring you're referring to. We suggest you repot your Lithops to check the root system (and check what is the blue/green ring you mentioned) and replace the soil in the turtle pot with a fast-draining succulent mix.
This was thorough thank you
THANKS FOR DIS!
Glad you love itt
Thanks for your video. I find it very useful especially for me being first time growing this kind of succulent. I bought a few from a local store and I am planning to repot them. Should I clean out the soil like you did on this video and replant them accordingly? It is beginning of summer here, should I water the soil or leave it dry?
Hi Jenifer, so nice of you. Before repotting, gently remove Lithops from the pot clean the dirt surrounding the roots. Keep in mind that you can only repot when the growth season begins (usually around the month of May). Before re-potting, the roots of Lithops must have developed enough (at least two years). Water your Lithops once every two weeks (at most) beginning in late summer, when it is actively growing.
Perfect! Cause before I saw them in store I had no idea these existed 😅😅
Haha now you know all about this beauty 🥰
what the hell did I get myself into
😂😂😂 I just said the same thing I just got my first one

My Lithops arriving Monday ( 80 pieces ) , ordered from Amazon lol and sooo exciting , I can’t wait 🤭
Hope it arrives safely 💞
Thanks so much! This video was very informative! 🌵
Thanks! We're so glad to hear that 🥰
I planted 15 Lithops seeds about a month ago, and today I spotted a small seedling growing. I put a plastic cover for humidity, but should I remove it now or wait for the other seedlings to hopefully sprout?
You are recommended to remove the plastic wrap or glass pane once the seeds germinate 😍
What a beautiful collection!! 🌵🌵🌵I will definitely try your tips!! Got a new pack of seeds and so excited to start them!🥰🥰🥰 I have succulent potting soil and perlite but no sand. Can I still plant without sand? Where we live no sandy areas to get naturally. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! Have a wonderful day!!🪴🪴🪴
Hi Amanda, it is best for Lithops to be planted in fast-draining potting soil. Sand, pebbles, or other gritty materials can also be added to help with soil drainage! Let me know if this information is helpful to you!
@@SucculentsBox Very helpful! Thank you!😇😇😇
@@amandaleeborchert3745 Awesome!!! Good luck!
Awesome tutorial. I really like the brown round rocks you are using. Where could I buy those? Thanks again.
Hi, you can find them on Amazon or any Plant Shop/Nursery 😉
Cutie lithops 🤩 Very informative!
Hi there, thank you so much for your kind words

Thanks for the video! I was wondering where you purchased the silicone cone thing??
You can purchase Pink Potting Kit on our website succulentsbox.com/collections/succulent-tools/products/copy-of-succulent-potting-kit. We also have blue one (:
Interesting to learn this type. Do you have a video on which can go under full/partial sun and which totally do well indoors ?
Not yet but that's an interesting idea. We'll see if we can make one. In the meantime, you can check out our blog on 10 types of succulents that do well indoors: succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/10-succulents-that-do-well-indoor?_pos=4&_sid=25bc9fa83&_ss=r
Do you have to wait for them to calcify any specific amount of time if you are propogating via division?
What is that pink thing you used? Is that to water the lithop as well?
Thank you
Hi sorry just bought these as a gift but I’m trying to relay instructions for when I give it to her you really shouldn’t water them in winter? It Jan rn and the pots dry but also the lady I bought them from said water once every month and now I’m so confused 😂

Thank you for your very clearly description but you didnt mention about how long the seed growth to mature and how to water from seed to mature?
It depends on the seeds that you have & your growing environment, lithop is a very slow growing plant.
@@SucculentsBox how slow is it? About 1-2 months?
@@nhiluu4685 It usually takes about 2-12 weeks for seeds to germinate and you can expect them to flower in 3 to 4 years under optimal conditions
@@SucculentsBox if I have them facing on a window and there’s a lot of sun until 6 would that effect it’s germination stage? It’s Sunny in portland so when is the best to plant them? I have my lithops maybe two weeks already and I thought I did something with germinating them… the problem is I didn’t keep track when I planted them… 😭
Your voice is great very much. I love it 😍
Thank you so much for your kind words!
I just randomly got one of these as a gift from someone and I have no idea what to do with it 😅 we’ll see how this goes wish me luck
I had two in a pot. They were shrivelling and stunted when I watered them once in two weeks like I was told at the store. So I started to give them a single mist daily and one has grown a lot bigger and the other ended up rotting. Now I’m just going to leave the other one for a while. I live on the equator so I’m not sure what season my lithop is experiencing.
Very helpful!
Glad you think so!😻
super cute!!!
Thank you so much
I just bought one and on the way home the pop tipped and it lost some roots... Help!
Do you recommend bottom watering for these guys?
Not too much water, my friend. When you do so, make sure to mix your soil with more sand. Please check out more info at succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-and-when-should-you-bottom-water-your-succulents
your all video very nice
Many many thanks
Mine has 3 levels. 2 outer sets of leaves and I just got it. None of the 4 outsides leaves are soft. The center part is not split yet, which is good, correct?
Yes, this is a natural growth stage. If they feel mushy and soft to the touch, the outer leaves are most likely shredding. Your Lithop may grow new leaves without blooming in some instances. For further information, please see this link. succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-care-for-lithops?_pos=2&_sid=a20218f81&_ss=r
Should I not water in winter if the lithops are indoors ?
Yep, you should leave it totally dry throughout winter
May I ask the pot for them at least 3.5-4 inches deep is good right?
Hi there, it is recommended that you should choose a container that is 10% larger in diameter than the width of your succulent!
Great.
Thanks 😻
What if I live in a country with only spring and summer, like in SEA? Would there be a difference in when I should water them?
Just make sure that you only give them a good soak of water when the soil is completely dry to the touch and they'll be fine! Hope this helps!
@@SucculentsBox it’s also very humid where I live. Could that also cause a difference? Thanks a lot!
@@Dragonbite Lithop surely prefers low humidity. In humid areas, your lithop could require hardly any water during spring and fall. Many species of lithops are able to take the majority of the moisture they need from humid air and. For more information, you can refer to our blog on the same topic succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-care-for-lithops?_pos=3&_sid=2d8cfe08e&_ss=r
I just got 10 baby lithops in the mail today and think they are so cute but I am terrified that I won't be successful in their care.
So you said the lithop wrinkle and don't panic to water them but not sure when they need water or splitting process.
To walk you through on this one, water your Lithops once every 2 weeks (at most) beginning at the end of summer, where this plant is actively growing. But once the winter season hits, it's best to leave it be and not water at all, as this is when its old leaves will start to die and new ones will begin to grow inside, and watering it during this time of the year could have a negative effect on its growth. This normally happens after their dormant season, which is around spring to early fall. Once the days get shorter and the temperature get cooler in fall, the plants will be active again.
@@SucculentsBox water every 2 weeks but its up to where you place the lithop right?
I place them under direct sun 6hours every day and it wrinkle and submerge in the soil
@@nhiluu4685 Yes it does depend. If you see that the plant starts to wrinkle or pucker, or appears to be sinking deeper into the pot and feels softer than usual when given a gentle squeeze, then it's time to give it a nice drink.
Liked so much your video, so subscribed. Have some lithops in akadama substract . Have you tried this? If so what was your experience? Roberto
We have not. But we would like to hear your sharing! How is your experience growing lithops in akadama substract?
Can I water my lithops when flowering?
Yes you can. For the record, flowering is one of the signs of growing process. At the beginning of this season, you should give it a good soak of water and continue watering as necessary. Do make sure that only water the plant when the soil is completely dry. For more information, please refer to our blog: succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-care-for-lithops

Thanks a lot
I was repotting my Lithops and the roots completely fell off. Is there a chance it can grow back?
You may check your succulents again in case there are still some healthy roots. If there are, quickly remove the damaged roots and clean them with a flush of water. Just make sure to let it dry and disinfect the healthy part of the roots before potting it with a fresh, new soil mix and container. If they are all done, it's better for you to grow a new one 😥
Thank you! Unfortunately, the plant still has no roots, however it's still plump. It's turning brown though....
@@peal4598 What a pity 😓
I had 3 other Lithops aside from the one that has no roots, and the three of them are turning purple on the top. Is it normal? Should I be worried? Also, how can I tell if a Lithops is dead? The one that lost its roots is still plump...
Also, do I necessarily need sand to propagate Lithops from seed? Could I just use very fine cactus mix?
How does an indoor plant know what season it is??
Of course they can. There are 2 ways: by measuring hours of darkness that occur in a 24-hour period, and by measuring how much cold they have experienced.
I see this after I just ordered some 😂
Really nice!! Hope it helps you😂
Hai i receive lithops no soil. What should i do before i plant in soil?
Hi there, it is best for Lithops to be planted in cactus mix or fast-draining potting soil. Sand, pebbles, or other gritty materials can also be added to help with soil drainage. Hope this helps!
Thx u😘
অসাধারণ 😍🥰
Thank you so much!
How can i get the seeds?

What about in the phillippines we donot have winter...
Hi Eden, Lithops don't experience dormancy in Philippines due to the tropical climate!
@@SucculentsBox thank u.,
My lithops is liquidy like totally cooked inside. Some of them even rot on its body fron the bottom. Dont know why
Have you checked the roots? It could be root rot
It's rotting from the body near the root at the bottom. the root is totally fine though
@@ericlie145 Probably overwatering. I’ve done that to a succulent before. The plant takes in too much water and kinda explodes in each cell, like popping a water balloon. The plant literally melts. Hope you have better luck!
