That Swardman is one nice machine. I just spent the last 2 days dethatching my lawn prior to overseeding using a Sun Joe. It got the job done but the extension cord always seemed to be exactly where I didn't want it, and lost track of how many times it came unplugged. But for the price I paid for it with 5 year warranty I shouldn't complain.
I love this piece of machinery tool for the Job for the work I've got a lot of Thatch growing on my lawn I've already tried to rake it all the time 😁 and it's backbreaking chore hi I'm Joseph Lama from Auckland New Zealand 🇳🇿 down under the south Pacific.
Loved the video and that’s definitely the Ferrari of mowers. Unfortunately, like a Ferrari, I will never be able to afford one.☹️ Putting all that aside there’s no question about the importance of thatching your lawn.
I appreciate that. Certainly not the machine for everyone and in my other video I show you this and 2 other traditional options that can help th-cam.com/video/zc032-zaWxg/w-d-xo.html - Thank you for watching
Love your clear and helpful videos now subscribed ! Going to go to a reel mower from rotary . Wondered if any tips to help this some light scarifications 1st cheers from UK . Wont be getting new mower for few weeks getting a plan together !
Absolutely. Uncomfortably so, in fact. Scalp it if necessary (and unless you're running super short, it probably will be necessary). You don't want you thatching tines to get hung on and rip out the long live grass; you want it clawing into what lies beneath, and shorter turf just makes that much, much easier and more effective.
I mowed a little more than 15k sq ft of grass and the mower had only lost 2 bars which seemed amazing. When I did the aeration it only lost 1 for the same space. These batteries seem very impressive. They state that about 15k is what it is rated but I believe you do more.
Thank you, you can dethatch most times of year. This is an expensive machine that is mainly geared towards folks cutting their lawns low who want to get more use from the single machine. The cost of this one is over $3k. In the reeel mower space the price is competitive but for more traditional lawn dethatching options please watch my other video: th-cam.com/video/zc032-zaWxg/w-d-xo.html
Hi @Silver Cymbal, now that you have shown us both a Swardman and Allett mower examples, any plans of side by side reviews? Thinking of getting a. Electra next year - any tips on the buying / experience / best practice?
Unfortunately I won't be able to do a side by side since I sold my Electra. They both are good mowers, the difference really is the company that makes each and the support you can get. Allett has local dealers in many states across the US and has been making reel mowers for literally decades which offers a buyer more experience. For the Swardman I am not a fan of batteries that can't be replaced easily by the end user and after using the Allett I think the Allett's build quality is better overall, feels more solid to me. Other things like switches and wiring appears much more waterproofed and mature on the Allett.
@@SilverCymbal Do you still have the gas Swardman? I'm getting close to either the Allett or Swardman reel and just reading your comment wonder if I should just to gas. We went from a larger yard (Had a Scag) but sold it an am now using a 21 inch electric EGO from Home Depot on 11K square foot lawn. I miss a better mower.
@@cdavidhord No the Swardman is gone, I really like the Allett better and I like that they have a national dealer network. They been making them for years too.
Yes, great point. The Allett has really become a popular machine here too. I got one and have been using it. The build quality is the best, very solid. th-cam.com/video/1Gzttrn9P0c/w-d-xo.html
Thank you very much, this is a premium level machine and mainly for cutting low and be able to dethatch is a huge bonus since it can eliminate the need for a second mower. reelrollers.com is the US dealer that can show you the models and pricing. Thanks for the nice comment and for watching.
Silver Cymbal no problem buddy I’m a new small channel along with a newer lawn care business so I watch all kinds of stuff that has to do with our field to try and learn more.
throwing thatch front of u and then moving it forvard and forward .....if u want to use 100 percent from th emachine collect your thatch guys in catch basket right away

Very interesting I have heard great things about the sun joes, and like you said the price can't be beat on those!

Perfect mixture for compost. Next spring's black gold! I bag everything I can get now.

Oooo, NO SHOES??? Living on the edge, good sir.
Plus jealous your thatching already!
At least I put the on when I ran the machine. I had bare feet in one of my early mowing videos and got about 100 comments about it!
Gotta get you some steel toe Keens 😬 A kid I grew up with lost a couple toes slipping under a mower... probably why they all have mud flaps now!
@@BenNawrath OMG that is terrible to hear. My Keens wore out way too quick anyway I need to put them in the trash
I’ve used a different electrical dethatcher. Motor over heated a lot because of misplacement of the venting. Any problems with this one?
How does the battery work and last? I heard it does work well unless your lawn is flat.

Shouldn't you be replacing the cartridge on grass so as not to damage the rollers?
I would recommend you mow your grass as low as possible before Dethatching

Do grass clippings cause thatch?
Where do you get them
Do you still own the swardman❓
What about scarfying ❓
hello! Where can i buy this machine in Italy?
How much acreage can a full charge do with dethatching? Can you get an acre done or would you have to stop to recharge?

I really need to get one of this
Where was your PPE while changing out the reel? What if you dropped it on your toe?!? Yours truly, Safety Sally.
Great video sir!, do you think now is a good time to do detaching on my lawn?, and how much is the beautiful machine you use👍

@@SilverCymbal right thank you sir👍
They need a snow thrower attachment! That way I can clear the driveway at 4:00 am before work without disturbing the neighbors.
Now that would be a VERY interesting attachment. I wish someone could figure out an aerator too. Would be cool
Definitely. Love the videos. Your lawn is looking great!

Well Dan 👍
This is the third lawn video working with heavy machinery while bare foot. Wouldn't want to hit a bare foot with the rotor while changing out.
Why are these mowers so expensive?
Do you work sometimes barefoot?
I used to live more dangerously, now I work 100% safe

When's the Swardman giveaway?!
That would be pretty amazing. Not sure if that will be in the works. But keep an eye out for another giveaway that will be pretty amazing for someone!
Yeah...finally put shoes on
I live in Canada and I dont think I can buy that here.
Not sure about that, if you check with reelrollers.com they may be able to ship there.

Yes I completely agree, but for the video I wanted to show what it could do.
That's not thatch. That's lawn debris. Big difference.
You should have done the entire thing barefooted. When you go barefoot it strengthens your feet, legs, and balances your hole body. 😀❤👣
Please out some shoes on. Safety first🙂
