Oh my god those morning views! 🤗 What a treat….loved seeing the frosty ground and frosty tent. I’ve no idea what I find so magical and lovely about those frosty shots - maybe as you said, it’s like you know you’re really living life when you catch moments like that! Delighted you were so toasty when tucked up in the tent - success!! I totally recommend those ‘hand warmers’ that you can crack to activate and place them in your gloves. They really do work and are also helpful for keeping batteries warm. You get a good few hours out of them! I bought a bunch of them online last winter - a brand called ‘Little Hotties’ (terrible name, but they work!!) Catch you again soon Jason 😎
That sunrise got my day off to a great start.. The frost is class isn't it, I love seeing it glisten with the light and it just shows how cold it was. Hopefully I can get some snowy camps in or at least a few more frosty ones. Spot on thank you Miriam, I will order some of those hand warmers and have them in my bag. Little hotties 🤣 catchy. Cheers Miriam, chat soon ☃️
Cheers Michael, carrying the sauce was well worth it 😄 The sleep system is pretty much sorted now so hopefully it serves me well and I can get out all through the winter. Thanks for watching and happy christmas 👍
Brilliant cold camp.really enjoyed that thanks and it would seem your a great Dad.👍what sunrise you got wow.!!yea I usually rather a taller tent.i find you need to be able to sit upright if your in your tent early because of rain or whatever .
The sunrise was one of the best I have seen and I totally agree about the tent. I have a new one now and another on the way from Canada 🤫 I'll have to find a new home for my Abisko 😄
Hi Jason, great video, loving your content. Those xboil burners are not the most efficient but their setup is a great bit of kit. I make the BaileyBurner safety burner/alcohol stove. They are fantastic burners due to boil times and efficiency, plus they are anti spill. If you like I could send you a few just to use and see how you go. Couldn't care less about a review bud. If its something you can use, i will happily send them👍
Hey Mark, you're stove sounds really good. I'd be interested to give it a go and see how I get on with it. If you want to send me an email we can chat more about it ramblingonireland@gmail.com Thanks a million 👍
Hey Jason, love the video! You are so good in front of the camera; and your natural charm, and your happy go lucky, family man outlook; make your posts not only fun to watch; but so very absorbing. And yet your work behind the camera, your framing, editing and eye for the aesthetic, almost seems as though a different person is at work. Someone more technically minded and capable. Your a very clever man to blend the two so seamlessly. Frosty scenes, beautiful sunrise and the warming homely glow of the camp against the darkness, and the clever use of silence (to balance the nice "chatty" bits). Loved the subtle switch between the lantern and the moon. Having cold hands (or feet, for that matter) is no fun. I could never seem to find any winter gloves that did the job. The best arrangement I've personally adapted, is woolen fingerless gloves and then mittens over the top. Take mittens off to do 'whatever' then mittens back on to warm up. Too many pairs of gloves just seem to impede your circulation and have the very opposite effect as intended. Look forward to more of your future adventures. Hope you don't have to work the new year, seeing as you had to work xmas!? Take care out there Jason..its Baltic 🥶 🤣
Cheers Tim, I have adopted the same kind of idea for my gloves. If the setup that I have now doesn't keep my hands warm enough then I will be getting another pair of mittens to go over the whole lot. It's impossible to function with cold hands, I remember a camp in my Lanshan where I was freezing cold all night and I could barely move the next morning. Getting the stove going was a real struggle but that first cup of tea made all the difference. It was amazing. I'm working over the new year too but I don't mind. I have decided that it is already 2023 so that I can crack on with my plans for the channel 😁 Take care man 👍🥶
That clip at 14:04 is fantastically bleak looking. Don’t imagine it’ll be used in an ad campaign or anything, but that short clip alone has me thinking I need to get 4 season gear.. thanks.
This winter will be my first to camp in the mountains, I just didn't have the right gear until now to keep me safe and warm. I love your description of that scene, fantastically bleak..
@@eddieforde I'll be doing some videos that might help you out with winter gear. I love researching gear and watching reviews. If you're the same you have fun times ahead 😁
With regard to camping mugs, had an insulated mug with a little hole in the lid to drink from. Left it in the porch overnight. In the moring finished off the coffee in the mug then opened it to fill it up again. Guess what? There was a huge slug in the mug that enetered it through the tiny hole, which explains why the coffee tasted different. Incidentally , recently got a similar tent to go camping with after a long break, the Hilleberg Akto.
Great stuff. Good for you for getting out. I was hoping to get out camping for the cold snap, but didn't know anywhere I could safely drive to - didn't want to go slip sliding backwards down an icy road. Maybe next time.
A good way to get out in the cold weather is to find a local woods. They are usually easily accessible and you have a bit more shelter form the elements and biting wind. Otherwise just keep an eye on your day hikes for spots in the mountains that might be handy to get to. That is what I will be doing before the next cold snap hits
It is all about the adventure, I personally love my Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 tent, though yesterday it was so settled though cloudy in Peak District I slept under the clouds and on my air bed, and in my sleeping bag and ended up born dry in the morning. Loved the video and nothing like waking up to a nice frosty morning. Liked and Subscribed.
Oh you are a brave man, I don't know if I could ever risk that with how the rain likes to show up unannounced 😄 Fair play thought that sounds class 🙌 I love the Abisko, its such a beautiful tent and the green is savage. The width and length are perfect but it's just the height that I struggle with. I have a bad back so I need to be able to sit upright. Cheers for sticking around, much appreciated 👍
@@RamblingOn Don't know about brave, maybe a little crazy lol. Yes for me the only negative is the height, as the airbed once in and up multiplies the issue. Other than that I just love the tent. Great video Jason and congrats on the tent. I have owned this a few years and it's a suburb companion. Served me many many nights and excellent ventilation options.
Regarding your condensation issues. Did you have the footprint? If there is a risk of it I sleep with the bottom half of the door open and clipped up. Also there is a conversion kit to turn it to a three season tent which I also have and works great. All the best with it.
Thank you Jack.. I have a love/hate relationship with the Abisko. The only thing that I don't like it the zip on the outer fly and the headroom inside. I think it is a beaut. I do have the footprint for it and I had the vents open and the top of the door unzipped but I didn't have the bottom undone because the breeze was biting. The condensation wasn't a big issue, I expected it and I was nice and cosy so happy days 🥶
