Hi Jason, just wanted to say I discovered your channel a week or so ago and you’ve become one of my go to channels whenever I need a bit of comfort which has been massive for me recently, cheers and here’s to hopefully many more 😊
Thank you so much Ben. I'm delighted to hear that, I hope you're keeping well.. Hopefully there'll be a lot more videos on the way in the new year. I might get one more out before that 🤞 Thanks a million, take her handy 🍀
Thank you for making these videos. It feels like I'm on camp with a friend. You have such a calm way about you which is relaxing and friendly. Not always to be found these days. ❤
Great video as always. Great to watch both you and Martin on both channels. We had a great laugh watching both. Firelmaple table is on our Santa list 🤣⛺️☕️
1:20 I’ve stood at that fork before and decided to go right instead. We got to the top of knocknaraffin and walked the ridge line to the gap and then on to Crottys lake. Camped there and then onto coumshingaun the next day. Great trip!
I learned a trick in the army years ago about keeping your feet warm, is to spray them with anti-perspirant. Your feet feel cold more when they are damp with sweat. Try it
Biltong, yes man! You need to try it… but authentic South African “geel vet Biltong”, Ill have to look into sending you some… 🔥🔥 Love the vid! Thanks for the laugh! 🤘
Ah What an amazing video, your videography is getting better each video you do. Thanks for sharing this beautiful location without these videos I wouldn’t be able to see this wonderful country 🙌
A nice little over nighter with beautiful views Jason, thanks for bringing us along. Two things that might help you 1. Dunnes still sell the powered milk, at least in my local in Dublin. 2. One use air activated heated insoles for €2 from Eurogiant, ideal for lolling around in camp. Regards Leonard.
Thanks Leonard, my local Dunnes doesn't stock it anymore, but I managed to get some powdered milk since this camp. I should be okay for a while 🤞 Thanks for the top on the insoles too
First of all just brilliant and I love that you guys coordinated the upload times. Really cool idea. What a beautiful spot! So peaceful. I love a great pitch by the lake. You have such a civilised camp set up now with your wee table and all- love it
Cold feet around camp? Stick some activated hand warmers in your boots.👍 Love the videos, thanks for taking us along, filming, editing and all that stuff. Dave 👍🍻
I always get gold when I stop moving so tried the activated warmers specifically for boots and shoes and was a total game changer I highly recommend trying them
Fancy gear, and a great video mate! compiling a list of cork camping spots so you can join Martin in Cork next time! Tipperary milk, take it you are from Tipperary then lol. Keep up the good work sir!
Yet another crackin video Jason, I always look forward to Monday evenings to see your new adventures, is that a new osprey pack I spotted 😀 ,superb as usual Jason keep up the good work atb 👍
Cheers Keith and thanks a mill for following me along on these little adventures. Nothing gets past you 😄 yep that's a new pack its the osprey atmos lt 65. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet
Super video, one of your best so far I think. Great to see you having the craic with Martin. Seems you are a Barry's man, while he is a Lyon's man. 🙂just ordered a Crazy Creek chair thing online due to your vids.
Wow, where do I begin? Without a doubt your best video I've watched so far. I watched Martin's video first and was really pleased that the two of you were out together. Poor Martin had a few mishaps so it was a bit of a challenge for him. But it was obvious that his trip was made all the better for you being there, not only for the milk, lol. As for your gear. I really like the wee table, I've been thinking about getting something like it for a while. You've now convinced me on it. That wind shield and pot set up was really good, I'll be looking at that too. A tip I would suggest is instead of the Nalgene bottle for hot water at night, get one of those flexible ones as it would be more comfortable to have in the sleeping bag. I use one at my feet in the hammock and it is great. The chat sequence was really good, I think Martin's video could have done with a bit of that too. Did you both have a mic, or was yours picking up both voices? The video was really class in that bit too, well lit and framed. Looking forward to the next one.
Ah yeah Martin didn't have the best of luck but we managed to have a good laugh regardless. The little table is one of my favourite bits of gear, if not my favourite. I love it 🙂 I thought about those little hot water bottles, I even have one in my house but it's more weight to carry and my pack is already 20kg or more with all my camera gear. I'd imagine it would be much better than the nalgene so maybe for the hammock camps or the shorter hikes I'll take the hot water bottle. For the chat I had a mic on my camera and a lav mic on my jacket but I did a lot of work in the edit to even out the audio so it's mainly the on camera mic that you can hear. Thanks a mill for mentioning the camera angles and all that, I really appreciate it. Take her handy 🍀
Lovely that, beautiful colours and a great little spot. For keeping the feet warm, keep the wool souls but use thin reflective souls under and above to reflect the heat back. (Can even just cut a soul shape from reflectix) Works wonders. Cheers!
@@RamblingOn there is a theory that while hiking, even in the cold, is to wear just a thin pair of socks and then put on thicker socks when arrived at base. That way, the thin socks haven't soaked up any moisture which is what gets cold when you stop. Kinda makes sense when you think about it 🙂
Hi Jason. That was tough hiking between the lakes.looks like a nice spot to spend a night. You drink some amount of tea !! 😮. You guys make a good duo. All the best 👍

That is a handy little table. I would be interested in hearing about the climate and landscape. I notice lots of dead trees in your forests. Are they dead because of the moisture? I can google these things but I love to hear you talk. You’re quite entertaining.
The table is very handy, not great for frosty conditions as I found out on my more recent camp 🙂 I couldn't tell you honestly, I'd imagine it's to do with the wet climate and the peaty soil holding onto the water. Either way they look really cool 🙂

It started off as such nice (somewhat tame) weather...until the morning. The line about the sun has risen, but I don't know where it is was awfully funny! As an aside, and not to alarm you too much, you are not recommended to use the water you boiled your meal in for drinking. I cannot back this up with any science, just what we were always taught. It may be a holdover from when we were still eating from the tin's, so as not to have tea with boiled aluminum water.
I was kind of thinking that, I started doing it a while back when water was limited and I wasn't close to a water source. I suppose it's a bad habit now. You'd wonder how much of an impact it would have really, it's hard to know what to be doing half the time 😂
Hi Great video honest and raw, highlighting experience gained during your trecks. What is the make of the tent. Did you consider Alps kit version prior to purchade. It just looks a great tent with 3/4 mesh door which you may be able to push into depths of winter 😎👍🏕
The tent is an MLD Duomid with a lanshan 1 inner. I have a luxeoutdoor minipeak 2 which is very similar and love that tent but the Duomid is a tent I've wanted for a very long time. I'll have it for my lifetime anyway. I'd imagine the Alpkit tent would do the very same job 🙂
For an alcohol stove it boils water pretty fast. I'm not sure exactly how long it took but I know I wasn't sitting there twiddling my thumbs and like I would be doing with my trangia 😄
Hey Jason , another great wee video , it was good to see you share the experience with SoleTrail Martin. By the way are there any fish in those lakes ?
I'm not fussy when it comes to tea. Once it's hot and in my hand, I'm happy, but I usually have Barry's Tea with me. I think it's the gold blend. I'd usually go for digestive biscuits, rich tea, chocolate digestives or Kimberly Biscuits are lovely, ih and jaffa cakes😍 My weakness is tea and biscuits 😄
Great vid Jason and a beautiful spot you've found there. Ya mentioned using your bivvy. I qas thinking the same before you said it. You may as well use a tarp as well and make a tent out of it. You'd probably have more space as well. Hows the stove? Is it any good? Atb, Saxon
Thank you Saxon, the tarpnl is a good idea. I haventbusednone in a long time. The stove was class, I've had it out a few times now, and I'm happy with it. Time will tell how it holds up.
4pm? Would be very dark outside here by then. This morning, it's about -8°C outside. I will still have my 2nd breakfast in the woods, riding bicycle to work in a couple of hours. What were the temps like at night up there? Curious about your mittens, though. Being an all-year bicyclist, those look like something I could use...
Ooh mama that's chilly isn't it. I couldn't tell you, I'd only be guessing. The mittens on got from decathlon, they're very handy and the merinonwool liner gloves are nice with them but not very durable
Great vid as always Jason what mountain range are you in? Looks like you’re round the corner from Coumshingaun? Or is it the Galtees? I don’t understand how you can have two fire pits so close together😠 one is bad enough. If I ever see two or more very close, and if I have the time, I try to consolidate the stones into one and do my best to erase the other ones. My theory is that maybe if you only have one firepit and then maybe that’s the only one used by people who are determined to have a fire. Glad to see you up and about, hope the back isn’t too bad, I feel your pain. Anyhow keep up the good work, looking forward to the next vid, mind yourself. Dan
This was down in the Comeraghs. That lake is too easily accessible for anyone with a 4x4, that was the main issue. We saw tracks leading up to it so I reckon people use it a lot. The back is doing alright, I'm working on it the whole time. Hopefully you're not too bad with yours 🤞Lowbackability or ATG on instagram/youtube are helping me a lot 👍
As a Canadian who has cold feet and who has lived in northern Alberta, I can tell you that your boots might be too tight. Buy a good pair of light winter boots at least half a size too large and wear the best quality of thick, wool socks you can afford. You don't want to squeeze into your boots... Your feet will freeze!
Hi Jason, nice vid. You may have said already, or I may not be using my brain, but how do you disinfect the water you get from the lake? Do you just boil it? Also, can’t wait for your next horror movie reaction….priceless! 😅 Cheers from New Hampshire, US.
Yeah I just boil it. If I was on the move I'd use a water filter like a sawyer squeeze but at camp I boil all my water and that kills the bacteria. 😄 I'm delighted you enjoyed that one, I don't have any plans to make another one, not yet anyway.
@RamblingOn I've been looking at them. Bit out of my price range right now, plus the postage to spain. I'm thinking of just buying some dyneema roll and trying to make my own tent. How hard can it be? 🙂 I also noticed those bags for life from the supermarkets are extremely waterproof and at 30p each wondering if 50 of them stitched together would do. It'd be a great video to make! 'i wildcamped in a tent made from bags for life' 🤣
As I know you're taking your channel seriously and want your videos to look as good as possible, I want to point out that the frame rate at which you recorded and the frame rate of your timeline are mismatched. That's why there's a stutter or 'skip' in the video every second. I'm only a minute in so not sure if all the vid is like this but said I'd let you know anyway. Not hugely important but it's something I spot and said I'd mention it. Great vid /channel.
There were quite a few around the lake which is a pity. That's what seems to happen in areas that are too easy to get to. I hope all is well and you're getting out and about yourself 🤞
Rich teas are only better than digestives because they don't drink the tea on you or leave crap in your cup. Otherwise I'd take a digestive over a rich tea 🙂 so yes I like rish tea 🍵
Love you're content but my fellow celts please take some real food with you. You can prep at home and cook it there. Maybe we're just greedy taking a full Scottish breakfast and stew for dinner 🤣🤣

@@derekgorman7939 🤣 cheers Derek. Appreciate that. Feckin nightmare of a camp on one side and a barrel of laughs on the other. The Jekyll and Hyde trip 🤣🤣
@soletrail had a pure shite one back in April. Pure shite. I actually commented last night on your vid but YT didnt allow it. Yeah went on a trip, to a location I was familiar with, for the first time I didnt bring me first aid kit because I was thinking "what's the worst that could happen?", yeah I sliced my hand, do you know what I could've done with?, that's right a first aid kit. Yeah, I know, I'm a gobshite. Well, I wont make that mistake again.
Why did you bring a tent with no floor for such a wet ,damp oirvement?, the tent doesnt look that strong, surely you can a stronger tent for winter rain and winds? The scenery is beautiful and that lake is magnificent!
I love that style of tent, and it's been tested by others in very harsh conditions. The lack of a floor is a benefit. It means I've loads of usable space for all my wet gear and for cooking. The tent weighs less than 900g, which is nice.
Thank you for the video! I always get kind of depressed when seeing what's left of the country. Rewildering should be the nation's priority over everything else.

Great video Jason.. hope you had enough milk after Martin😂 what Is the make of your rucksack
😄 ah sure we survived anyway. That is an Osprey Atmos LT 65litre. I'm not sure how I feel about it 🤔
Cheers Jason. Thanks for the great content. How long did that stove take to heat your mre?
For an alcohol stove it boils water pretty fast. I'm not sure exactly how long it took but I know I wasn't sitting there twiddling my thumbs and like I would be doing with my trangia 😄
Hey Jason , another great wee video , it was good to see you share the experience with SoleTrail Martin. By the way are there any fish in those lakes ?
Surprisingly there are fish in the lakes, I've often seen them jumping for insects
Oh and I’m interested in what kind of tea you drink and your biscuits or cakes…what do they consist of?
Nice video, looked like a good camp.
What're the gloves you've got there?
(Shame about all those fire pits)
I got them from decathlon, www.decathlon.ie/p/339297-257409-adult-warm-and-windproof-mountain-trekking-mittens-mt900-black.html
Silly question but isnt a lake stagnant water?
Not that I know of anyway, it looks very lake like to me 🙂
Great vid as always Jason what mountain range are you in?
Have you been to the Nire Valley Co Waterford?
Yeah I've been there, it's beautiful.
Thanks a million, you'll see in my next video that I was still trying to figure out how to keep my feet from freezing 😄
Careful now,
Where is this
South of Ireland 🇮🇪
Hi Jason, nice vid. You may have said already, or I may not be using my brain, but how do you disinfect the water you get from the lake? Do you just boil it? Also, can’t wait for your next horror movie reaction….priceless! 😅 Cheers from New Hampshire, US.
Yeah I just boil it. If I was on the move I'd use a water filter like a sawyer squeeze but at camp I boil all my water and that kills the bacteria. 😄 I'm delighted you enjoyed that one, I don't have any plans to make another one, not yet anyway.
Where'd you get the tent, Jason? Looks the business!
I bought it direct from Mountain Laurel Designs. It's their Duomid, but I only bought the flysheet from them. The inner is from a 3ful lanshan 1
'i wildcamped in a tent made from bags for life' 🤣
''A tent for life'' 🤣
As I know you're taking your channel seriously and want your videos to look as good as possible, I want to point out that the frame rate at which you recorded and the frame rate of your timeline are mismatched. That's why there's a stutter or 'skip' in the video every second. I'm only a minute in so not sure if all the vid is like this but said I'd let you know anyway. Not hugely important but it's something I spot and said I'd mention it. Great vid /channel.
Thanks a million, it's not something that I've noticed before but I'll have a gander at it 👍
Jason what did the sheep think of ye
They're not subscribed anyway, I think that says it all 🤣
Headed out in may gonna be camping middle of nowhere hopefully won't come across a bunch of people
If you can try go mid week and you should have the place to yourself 🤞
@RamblingOn first spot is on commonage behind my parents spot need muck boots to get there so should be empty. Glanmore lake etc we shall see
Man both of you missed the best scenario in comeragh mountains….coumshigaun lake….some views there
Oh I love the hike over there, I must do that one soon
@ there is great spot for camping down close to lake… you can do hike around the top and stay overnight ✌️
Bulltang 😂
Those fire scorches bug me
There were quite a few around the lake which is a pity. That's what seems to happen in areas that are too easy to get to. I hope all is well and you're getting out and about yourself 🤞
Do you actually like rich tea biscuits..
Rich teas are only better than digestives because they don't drink the tea on you or leave crap in your cup. Otherwise I'd take a digestive over a rich tea 🙂 so yes I like rish tea 🍵
The Coleman Orange shit-shovel - absolute requirement for camping in Ireland.
As many lakes that you have camped by I have yet to see any fish in them nor you doing any fishing. Whats up with that??
I've seen plenty of fish in the lakes but I'm not much of a fisherman
😀
they do say camping in sheep poo warms you up!!!!
😂
Love you're content but my fellow celts please take some real food with you. You can prep at home and cook it there. Maybe we're just greedy taking a full Scottish breakfast and stew for dinner 🤣🤣
🤣 sometimes I just couldn't be arsed 🙂
Thankyou for sharing yer mates channel. I've subscribed and watched his (somewhat calamity) camp with you.....not showing any favoritism..but your my favourite...you're the whole reason i call nature sexy...because she is damn sexy! ❤thankyou for uploading and going on these adventures for to upload!
Be safe, be well, travel well.
Sara.

Hi Sara, thanks a million for checking out Martin's video and for following my little adventures 😁 Take her handy 🍀

Thank you Anthony 🙌
Lough Bre
HE STOLE YOUR MILK, YOUR MILK, WHO DOES THAT?
It was only for the camera. Wouldn't do that. ✌️
@soletrail Ah I know, I'm only messing. Sure its only milk, there were plenty of sheep about to milk, sheep give milk right?
@soletrail watched your video afterward, you got another subscriber here.
The goolies comment had me cracking up.
Are those some kinda "race" sheep or sumpthin? That red stripy one in the background looks too fat to win a race against the blue stripy one.
😄 imagine when no one's around, they hold races and other athletic events. That'd be gas
I always try to appreciate what we have and leave the place a little better than when I found it 🍀 take her handy
