One of my all time favourite Rock tunes from the 80's from Billy Idol...I always loved how Steve Stevens played the guitar parts in this song and his guitar tone speaks for itself...I can only hope that i did it justice. :) This is my version...hope you like it.
Equipment used:
'59 Gibson Les Paul Aged Historic Custom Shop with a Tom Murphy aged top 50th anniversary
AXE FX 2 by Fractal Audio
Logic Pro 9
Apogee Duet 2 recording interface
"Billy Idol-Rebel Yell", sound recording administered by: 3:40
EMI backing track.
Very nice individual approach. Steve thumbs up for sure. 🎸⚡⚡⚡
Thanks, I really appreciate that! 👍 ✌️
Oustanding Jason, simply outstanding. Love your guitar work! Thanks once again.
A cover isn't replaying the song exactly like someone played it and some people don't seem to get that. This is great. I'm tried of people trying to play the song exactly like it was written.
Big Sexy thanks man! Yeah at 3:20 in the song I added a new part to the song not done by Steve. But I thought it fit good. It’s my interpretation so to say, I agree, no point in playing it identical to Steve, what the point? It’s already been done, right? \m/ cheers
Jason Hobbs extremely well done mate, nice personal interpretation!!!
Our band is gonna cover it our way. So yeah you are correct!
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist that bit sounds killer man. Well done!
I fucking love that riff before the chorus
Really great playin man.You play effortlessly and with feeling.

Jessica Valyo thanks man! Cheers
thumbs up for that solo tutorial. Come on you know you want it
In the beginning of the song at 0:10 , Billy Idol's guitarist called Steve Stevens does BOTH parts on guitar at the same time actually!
Yea Erik...I was and am going to mention that. Jason - you have the fingers and chops and ability to do BOTH parts at the same time. I'm looking forward to (maybe) seeing you do that. All in all, fantastic job. I'm also an Axe FX II owner and I revel (or is it "rebel") in the fact that you have a Marshall 1/2 in the back while playing through the Axe! Good on ya. Keep rockin'. Thumbs up and a subscription well-earned my friend. PS: I wish I had "Spider Crab" fingers like you! (Total Compliment Intended). Yours Truly...Fat Finger Feldtman
Bridgebain Yeah, this guy still did a great job!
Erik Bananaman I can do both at the same time lol
Yeah me too, well kinda...
It's really not hard if you practice it for a minute
Que chingon en ver un cover de esta canción...
Thanks! 👍 ✌️
Love the solo in this video more than the original! You got feel man. And amazing tone.
Made it your own. Nice work!
Holy Sh1T!!!! You f**king ROCK!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!
Sounding good Jason
#Cheers
Mick
Jason. Excellent job brother!! The rythym part was close to spot on! I know that you improvised the lead...but you did it in a way that it fit the song! Well done!! I have subscribed.
David Kelly thanks man! Really appreciate that! Thanks for subscribing as well, cheers!
Dude holy fuck. You fucking rock. Good shit
Thank you...really appreciated! :)
very nice :) \m/ keep doong the good work dude \m/
Any chance you could put a tutorial on the solo?? Such a great addition to the song. Possibly better than original
Ryan Ruiz thanks man! If there was enough interest I would do that yeah... cheers!
Interesting concept of guitar
I know you know - but the intro is one guitar track....not two
Hell yeah, I dig it bro🤙 fuckin awesome!🙌
thanks…I tried to put my own spin on it in certain places… cheers!
Jase you,re a guitar legend love all your stuff mate! thank you, ive got a long way to go, im practicing a bit on my Squire Affinity Stratocaster, one day i,ll be as good as you, in about 50yrs lol
I really appreciate that Gregory, wow. Thank you. All the best man! ✌️
Sounds great, but dude, what about the intro?? It’s a one guitar part riff with hybrid picking? But the solo was awesome and the chords played over the middle 8 were killer, a great addition!!
Steve of Staffordshire yeah I’m aware now but only because 1000 steve Stevens fans have already told me.. lol I play it that way now. It’s easy. But this is how my mind thought to play it improvising and all at the time. All I intended to do with this tune was to make it my own, from what I can see on TH-cam covers, I done just that in spades. I like adding to something that’s already been done. No point in recording if not. Thanks man. Cheers
What is EMI backing track? Is there anyway I can get my hands on this backing track?
I loved it! Thanks!
Love what you did on the "quiet" bit after the solo. Might have to borrow that 👍
lol, thanks bro! glad you like it! cheers!
Cool. I like you had no shame making your adjustments.
I waited for see that solo, disappointed :c But you done a very nice Job!
I love your cover and solo was excellent lml
Yeah all one position pentatonic, Steve Stevens is usually all over the neck plus at least some unexpected diatonics & bends but to each his own. Also no way could he have copied the Toy Ray Gun effect from the original, Steve put those extra guts into his guitar just for that sound! Cheers.
Nice job. Very well done.
F..... awesome!
Playing this Song for a long Time like Steve, now i will cover it the way like you play... Great Job, thank you!
Thanks man,I’ll take that as a compliment. :) glad you liked it. Cheers!
You need a guitar with a whammy to cover all the intricate fills in this song really.
Awesome! Well done!
Nice job ,always inspiring watching you play, thanks.
great cover and a great tone. I've did the intro on 2 guitars, as you did. I didnt get it clear one guitar and it sounded better on 2 several tracks. I love that guitar :)
Reminds me of some happy memories from my younger days...thank you :-)
awsome
nice one
very original man...nice approach to the solo.
Thank you.
Very good cover. Great Job !!! Anthem of the 80's Rock tunes \m/
Awesome cover !!!
The riff at 3 : 17 is amazing ! 👍👍
A cover slightly different but how nice it is !
I could say even better.
Impressive performance Dude !

Jason what pedals do you use Thanks. Que pedales usas GRACIAS
Cuales!?
Oliver Leyva I’m using a master effects JHP pedal nowadays, by far the nicest pedal I’ve owned. I just uploaded a video yesterday using it. Cheers! Thanks!
Sheeeetttt
Nice cover....What are you playing in the part after the solo at 3:18
Thanks! I made that part up. No guitar in that part on the recording.
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist yea I know. I am trying to figure out what to do there . I think I got it. Your pedaling the B and folowing what the bass notes are playing
@@madmmx18976 not quite sure what I did there now, I recorded this years ago and haven’t played it since lol ✌️
thanks man...cheers!
Killer tone ya got there.
Jeffrey Ledbetter thanks man! Thanks for the comment as well... cheers!
Please tell me how you have all that equipment do you own a music store
Magnificent
Thank you. Really appreciate it. ✌️
Well done! Love the unique solo and the arpeggios. Thumbs up!
Karl Baltzell thanks a lot! Cheers
Love your technique you make it look so easy! Any recommendations on how to improve that chugg strumming? I can't seem to go fast enough and kinda stiff.
Plant your hand down softly on the bridge... I look at it more as an muting technique. I guess I'd just practice it more, it's a muscle memory thingy, you need to teach your brain a new movement if you're not use to doing it. It will develop with time I guess. Don't give up, 10 minutes a day and I'm willing to bet you'd have it in no time. Just be persistent to obtain your goals on the guitar. When you get the technique then you can move on to something else that you're having problems with. I'm still learning myself... There's always something that'll get ya.. Lol
Cheers
Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely put it to use and thanks for sharing! :)
+Kevin E no problem, any time.
Dam I think you might even have longer fingers than Steve Vai.
I just wanted to see if you can do both parts at the intro riff.... I can't to be honest
You do a great job on this tune. But dissappointed with the solo. Dont get me wrong solo was awesome but was hoping youd tackle the solo like you did the the rest of the song.
well done
Thanks man! Cheers!
Nice job first part of that song actually I thought was pretty easy to learn Keep On Rocking. just got AX8 I also think that Steve Stephen doesn't get his recognition for what he does
\m/ thanks! Cheers
Thanks for the nice comment! glad you liked it.... :)
Good work!!!,...great song!
David G thank you David! Cheers!
Decent cover, but not at all how Steve plays it .
Ultimagtr650 exactly, I never copy exact, there's already one steve, instead I added to the song, made up a interlude for him at 3:18
That's creativity cheers!
Wow just watch it again 👌👌👌👌
Thanks Mike! Cheers!
you tunning your guitar or you use standard tunning
Wooow !!! Great! You play very clean! Compliment!
Luca Mastino thanks! Cheers!
There is a part when it sound like a weapon
Nice phrasing. Spot on even with a couple whatever mistakes. Best I’ve seen on the verse chorus. You’re in the band! Rock on!
This was done on a whim. One take. I really don’t think I even learned to play the tune. Just playing from what I hear in my head, this has always been my approach, hearing a guitarist play note for note doesn’t impress me, not even the original guitarist doing it. I want to hear more, whattaya got kinda thing. What’s your personality on the guitar, that kinda thing is where I come from. Thanks.
Good work dude! Love the color of your Marshall
Justyn Kase thanks justyn! \m/ cheers
hey how can i get that backin track?
Great job !! I just love this !!
Adrian oliver thanks! Cheers
Wanted to ask you. How do you like jmc head?
I've been coming back every now and then. This never gets old. You make me grab my guitar and start jamming. Awesome picking, palm-muting... so simple and perfect. Excellent job, man!
Sergio, Thanks man! Comments like you just made make it fun for me to make these videos, I’m just glad someone enjoys them. I really appreciate your comment. Cheers my friend! Take care.
