As a nurse for over 25 years, I agree with your pointers & here's another: Keep your license current even if you think you want to take a break, pivot away, raise a family. Your license is an asset 📃 ✨️

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!! This video couldn’t of came at a better time. Tears are falling from my eyes 😭😭 because I am a new grad and I interviewed at 2 hospitals and got the job at both. My passion is the ER and I was feeling like I don’t remember much from school and how in the world am I going to achieve being a compassionate, efficient, and thorough nurse working in such a critical setting… nonetheless - I know it’s my purpose for sure and I am going to walk in it. Much less allow God to truly direct my steps as I know he’ll continue to do. God bless 🙏🏽

I loved this comment so much because I’m still in nursing school and I often worry that when I graduate I’ll forget a lot. It’s comforting to know that it’s not weird to feel this way. Also I hope everything works out at your new hospital.

How do you feel about new grads going into a residency program vs as a regular hired nurse?

I'm 57 & will say be ready to be shouted at as if you are someone's naughty 11yo. And interrupted. Oh my giddy aunt, the interrupting. I love Nursing but nurses; not so much.... like Dad teaching a teenager to drive. Floor teaching is a different skill to the Nursing. Back yourself and don't let anyone take your achievements or POTENTIAL away from you.

I’m 51 and about to start my first nursing job. You aren’t alone. There are many of us in the same position. I think our age will be an asset. We are going in with wisdom and life experience that can’t be taught in school.

the way i interviwed 60+ jobs for the area I wanted but because my senior clinical wasn't in that area * i couldn't choose* Majority either didn't get back with me and the ones that did said no cause I didn't have that experience in senior year so I was not able to get a job in the area I wanted starting out I held out as long as I could trying time and again literally looking at multiple states but couldn't get it and my loans were coming due I had to take a job, I'm learning a lot but yeah it sucks seeing people get their dream jobs but it hurts like " why couldn't I get that"

I have been trying to land a new grad L&D job. I am an ABSN deans list student with a previous bachelors, certified birth and postpartum doula, and one year of experience as a tech.
It has not been easy! I’m seeing 1 year experience mandatory everywhere I look. I accepted a step down job but idk how to transition into L&D after my nurse residency. Any tips?

Hi! Thank you for the tips!! Quick question - you said you don't need 1 yr of med surg experience, but would you have been able to get your first L&D job without it?
It's almost impossible to get hired at a higher paying hospital here in the Bay Area, CA without at least 6 months Med Surg exp or if you get lucky enough to accepted into a New Grad program.

I’m sorry go back to school asap. Studies show the long you wait to go back to school. It’s more unlikely you’ll go back. Go back get your education and rest when your finish.

Thanks for the insight, a degree without experience will not get you far unless you work to gain the proper experience
