Hi Martin, it’s a fantastic tune. I love the B section, even if it is a bit tricky to solo over! Yes, good to see the channel growing. Edging closer to 10k 👍
Haven't heard of this tune before. Interesting B section. The first run of the A-section sounds a lot like the first few bars of rhythm changes. Thanks for this.
It sure does have an interesting B section. The melody is so strong that it doesn't feel odd though. Yes, that A section is kind of like a stretched out rhythm changes - nice spot!
interesting analysis of the tune. I assume this is AABA form, with the A being the Fmaj7 and B the Bbmaj7 ; does the key of the B section usually derive from the IV chord of the A ?
Great lesson again thanks Andy - one of my fave standards too! Quick question: referencing your 6 ways to learn a standard video from the other day, what versions of this tune would you load up from spotify to listen to?
Yes Malcolm 👍 I’d suggest Oscar Peterson, Chet Baker and Herb Ellis. Tal Farlow one is cool too. Ella for a vocal version. My favourite is the slow Oscar Peterson one.
For me this is a must know standard. Let me know if you have any questions about today’s lesson. Don’t forget I upload every Weds and Sat. Andy
loved this tune since watching Bridget Jones Diary. I’ve added it to my list…
It's a great one - challenging B section.
You did an excellent job of presenting the material. Thank you for taking the time to do this particular song.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Another great analysis of a nice standard presented in an organized way, THANK YOU !

Yep the form is AABA. Quite a lot of tunes have B sections that start on the IV chord, given it's sub-dominant quality.
