    I almost peed laughing at Emily creeping about in the background! Emily, you’re awesome.

    OMG! Emily in the background was hilarious. But she was actually singing one of my favorite old songs under that fabric. I really enjoy watching Costume College videos, I guess because I’m older and until the internet sewing was often an isolated activity. Seeing people make and enjoy costuming all come together is awesome.

      I too am “older” and have costumed solo for 50+ years. Just thought I’d let you know you’re not the only one. :)

    I need to share a story with you. There was one young lady at the Friday Social who was fan-girling so hard over you that it took three tries to get her set up with her passport (I was one of the TVA passport agents). She apologized while her friend rolled her eyes and dragged her into the crowd. Fast forward an hour later when they returned to get their raffle tickets. I asked them if they had a good time and this young lady could not stop gushing, saying how nice you were, how you talked to her for a while and let her look at your costume, then complimented her on hers. Thank you for being so nice - you *completely* made her weekend!
    I had a great time in your class as well and learned a lot. I really should have worn a costume to that class, though. Hindsight is always 2020!

      Aww, that is so cute! Do you remember what her name was? There was one person who was there with her sister (I'm forgetting her name at the moment) who was so effusive when I met her, and it was adorable. And I'm so glad you enjoyed the class! ❤️

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions Unfortunately, I don't. We were so busy "processing" people that it was all a blur. All I can tell you is that both were twenty-somethings (not helpful, I know). I'm very much looking forward to next year's CoCo (with better air conditioning and a lack of COVID).

    Hi Rebecca, I have just tested positive for covid myself, the day before my birthday which was rather annoying however in my bit of alone time I have been watching TH-cam sewing videos and have found you and a few other people that I am really glad I have found. I am very very new to sewing but I love the whole idea of it, love the thought that I can really express myself through it.
    I am from the UK an area in South Wales to be precise and have been thinking about going to university (or College or whatever) in Cardiff uni they have a fashion design degree and the lecturer looks lovely and everything, but I have also seen that you can do special costume design degrees and I just love the theatre, I used to go all the time when I was young, I love the magic of it, the sets the costumes, everything but I have also thought about going down the route of recycling fabric and making new with old and maybe starting a little something but I don't know if I were going to university is the right choice or which degree or anything so any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.
    P.s sorry for filling your comments with my life story 😅

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh no, I hope your symptoms aren't bad! As far as choosing whether or not you want to go to uni for fashion or costuming (which would be two very different degrees), it's honestly hard to say. Do you already have a degree? If not, then I'd say you should definitely go for it. If you do already have a degree in something else, then I think it would depend if you want that more formal training in a uni setting, versus if you want to work things out on your own. I would check out Cats Costumery's channel, since she has just completed her uni degree in costuming in Scotland, and would know way more than I do about that topic.

  • @stefmakes

    I wanted to dance so bad at the gala but it was indeed soooo hot. Too many layers and too much silk involved with my gown, any movement made me overheat, lol. Aside from a bit of low-key arm waving for the time warp off in the corner, dancing was not absolutely not happening 🥲I'm very impressed that you survived under all that fabric all weekend. It was lovely to meet you and see you in all of your beautifully crafted costumes! I'm the lady who was in the light up Edwardian gown in your video, we didn't talk much at that moment because I think I was on an atm mission for a silent auction... but I did say hi at the welcome party with my mom, I was in the fluoro rainbow onesie at that time.
    Also, that magenta/blue silk 🤩

    I read comments while ads play, so I knew some sillyness by Emily would be happening forthwith. I still snortedly laughed! "Snortedly" is a word, right?
    I love watching videos of CoCo. I thought I'd miss the costuming community royalty who couldn't make it this year, but nope, I really didn't. You showed me tons of talented seamsters, sewists, artists, and creatives. Thanks, Rebecca, for having me along!

    So happy that you had a good time!!! It really did look like alot of fun and the dresses were so pretty. Your dresses really stood out in the crowd. Most looked to be the best at the conference! I did like the one lady in the black dress with all of the layering in the back. Very nice. How awful that the hotel didn't have AC!! Viruses love heat. You'd think they would purposefully have it colder instead. They should also give you some kind of refund due to lack of AC for such a large group. The items you bought all look like money well spent and the fabrics were beautiful. Emily did steal the show playing around in the back of the one video. I was laughing the whole time. Thanks for taking us along!

    Emily is a hoot! I always think of going to costume college but never have. I wouldn’t know a soul there and I’m rather introverted so I find it hard to walk up to people and talk to them. Yes I know I need to just do it but I haven’t. And the videos from the past have seemed very clique-ish and exclusionary which has definitely deterred me from going. I’m sure there are others like me who would like to go, the question is, how do we solo participants find each other when everyone seems to already have paired up either with existing friends or have come with a companion? Oh well, at some point I’ll determine that the classes alone are worth it and just make my way there and enjoy the experience solo. Coming from Florida it’s a big commitment but I have a year to work on courage and in the meantime thank you for posting, it really looks like an enjoyable experience. Minus the heat and Covid of course, I hope you continue with no or merely minor symptoms and recover quickly. Oh, another question, are there some who focus on medieval costumes? I did not see any in your video but I may have missed them or maybe you did not film them because it’s a little further back in time than your interests or current focus? Anyway, thank you for posting, quite enjoyable, and I hope you recover quickly. Pet the kitties for me!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the freshman orientation on Friday is really good for helping new solo people find each other, so I definitely recommend going to that. And yes, there's definitely medieval costumes there. I mostly felt like every time I turned on my camera to get shots in the hallways, there were just very few costumes in general!

    I am so glad you had a great time! Thank you for taking footage of all those gorgeous costumes; you were so pretty. The tea looked delicious, and now I am starving. LOL! I cannot believe the hotel didn't at least have fans; it might be time for Costume College to find another hotel to call home. Crossing my fingers that you do not develop any symptoms.

    Oh Rebecca! So happy the classes & fellowshipping were fun & informative. So what class did you teach? 2 things I most enjoyed on ur videos: Altho there were so many beautiful & unique costumes (for sure), yours out shined. I thot maybe because you shared ur journey in making them......no, I believe it is because yours really did outshine any of those around you. And, I love how all your years of posing have lead to the terrific variety you shared. Happy that the photographer recognized this as well! Hope you keep heading toward complete recovery. That's appalling, the way closets are designed now, with no thought for those of us who live in long dresses. Even in new model homes, they think it is an upgrade to fill a closet with shelves and drawers and leave no full hanging space. Sheesh. For drawers, dressers have already been invented.
    You could bring Command Hooks to a hotel and then take them down when you leave. Handy in a bathroom. The hooks are reusable if you buy the replacement sticky strips, which 3M sells.
    For Costume College, I think I would buy a spring-mounted rod designed to hold a bathroom curtain. If the tiling (or plastic form) stops at the curtain rod height, I would affix the rod to rest against the tiling on both ends so it would be best able to support the costumes. Then I would bum a shower from a friend when needed or just take a dip in the pool. Don't know if you could pack a bathroom rod, but you could have it shipped ahead and held for you. Where there is irritable determination, there is a way.

    Loved all of your skilled work and to share with everybody! The problem with the A/C was not your friend in trying to avoid the ongoing plague! (It spreads and infects much better in closed, warm/ hot enclosed, mixed and crowded rooms) Sound familiar? You should consider yourself lucky IMHO. Those giant A/C units stop working in an instant so the hotel probably could do little to fix things. Fans everywhere probably would not have helped very much. Hope you get over it quickly! Could you give the link to the lady who was doing the gloves? I'm still struggling with my pair. Good video!

    I don't think I'd ever get to go to Costume College, as it's fully cross country for me, but it was nice to see you have a good time. I saw people dressed in 18th and Edwardian eras, besides Victorian. Do you ever see anyone dressed medieval? That's my era, and I was curious.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions

      Yep, there's definitely some medieval, but it's not as prevalent as Victorian, Edwardian, or 18th c.

As a 90s girl who would've done anything for those My Size dresses, so excited. Did you know they sold sewing patterns for those dresses in girls sizes?? I got Kirsten's Meet dress pattern for my daughter on Ebay for $15.

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions It is refreshing to have historical children's books with girls. Growing up most of my books were about boys. Which was fine, but we really need both...

      And I'm surprised there were so many boy protagonists! All my favorite childhood books had female protagonists - I loved the Dear America series, and the two standalone books I read the most were The Secret Garden and Caddie Woodlawn.

    • @KahoriFutunaka
      @KahoriFutunaka 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions I think it has to do with most historical children's books here being adventure stories and usually set in Ancient Times or the Middle Ages - times when wealthy girls usually had to stay at home, so no adventure for them. There are exceptions, of course. For example the series "Die Zeitdetektive" (The time detectives): Two boys and one girl who are best friends travel to different times to answer their questions for homework and stuff (as you do), meet children their age and usually end up in some big conspiracy like attemps to murder Cleopatra. I kept all of those and sometimes read them even today.
      The patterns are great, thank you so much! And they contain the dress I wanted to make. And about five I now want to make as well...
