Those 930 turbos are Dangerous. A thing called turbo lag, synonymous with turbos, is the first stage of a two-stage disaster. Be careful hitting the gas going through turns... When that turbo kicks in, it kicks in like a monster! Causing many fatalities, from the second stage of the two-stage disaster, lose of traction/grip. Combined with being a rear mounted engine, makes it practically impossible to correct once those tires start spinning in a turn. It is a legendary Widow maker.
The widow maker,be kind to the gas around corners and you're alright. A blast on the straightaway when the turbo kicks in it will eat Chargers for dinner. I know because I pull mine out of the garage every summer and at the age of 56 still drive it like I stole it.
@@z.z.4790 Agree, put the pedal to metal on straights. When I was 16 years old. 30 years ago, I worked with a guy who built his Porsche. Just the body frame $2500, probably more today, the motor was rebuilt, cost him 8 to 12k, he had to look for the parts and they were not cheap. Took him over 2 years to get it done and it looked exactly like this one, same color except the window were tinted dark and tires were a little wider, the body of the car looked wide from the back with them wings. Couple years later he painted the car candy red, he spent over $8k just for the paint, it looked beautiful but that off white color before on that Porsche made that Porsche looked mean. Never ever seen one like it again anymore.ðĪ
It looks amazing bro. I had a 1995 911 in 2005 and I regret selling it. I loved that Porsche. I graduated high school in 1995 and it was the last air cooled series Porsche
These cars first came out just when The Yuppie Movement was emerging. Lots of these were sold to noobs who never drove anything faster than a Camry, and quite a few of them got wrecked on the drive home from the dealer, when the new owner unexpectedly discovered what "trailing-throttle oversteer" means while cooking it a bit too hard on the on-ramp, going ass-backwards at 70 mph....
If I could create my own custom 911, it would look like this but all black exterior. The interior, tech and mechanicals would all be from 992 Turbos S. Oh, and it'd have those classic 993 Turbo mags.
Haha, that was my thoughts exactly. Of course if I became the owner, I'd keep the motor and transmission, possibly the frame? But... the front end, those bars, and gas tank got to go!
Why the original owner would leave the car static and not consider fluids, tires, and electrical during storage is beyond me. I bet the buyer negotiated the asking price down right off the bat. Congrats to the new owner. Beautiful car!
I'm kicking myself in the ass to not have purchased an air-cooled when given the chance but was turned off bc I had to work on one when I was the European Car guy at this dealership and it turned me off to wanting to lay hands on them. If only I'd purchase one 25 years ago I could've retired today ð
A proper Porsche and same year as the one I had 40 years ago........ those were the days you needed to know how to drive properly. Modern cars are amazing - even girls can drive them :-)
Im not really a Porsche guy but those have always been great looking cars. Good handling & good power especially the twin turbo ones. Like you said its a lot of money for German car parts.
My younger sister had a professor in college who had one of those. He stated that inlet/spoiler was a place for the Porsche tech to sit because it was totally unreliable.
I love my 79 930 - it cost $17500 in 1998, but had to sell my 1990 e30 M3 for $17,500 to acquire it . The only Porsche sports car I will ever own . Thank you Lord . PS wish I could have kept that bBlack on Black M3 BMW as well, but budget then made that impossible.

Just sold my 85 had it sice 99 tripled my money after getting to drive it 60k miles, had my fun collected my profit, just bought another porsche with super low miles, hoping to do the same thing over again
I remember way back in the summers of 83, 84, and 85, the son of the owner of the mobile home dealer I worked at during those summers, bought his then 20 something year old son a new 930 every year and like clockwork, he proceeded to total each before the year ended. Two were flat-bedded back to the yard where I was told to remove the license plates and pull the stereos. Those people had more money than they could use. Mobile homes were a hell of a business back then. The stories I could tell...
Holy crap manâĶ that thing is gorgeous! How much did you end up picking it up for? Looks like he took really good care of it also. Could have prevented most of the fuel issues you dealt with, but it probably needed to be done anyways.
Guy retired but still paying mortgage, and thats how american dream looks kids

Or wants us to think he has no money
He's on the Richard Kiyosaki plan.

Lex Luther the wrestler used to live in my neighborhood outside of Atlanta and owned a red convertible 930 slant nose. It was sick.
I would have negotiated to the moon and back for the right price on a dream car that is THAT CLEAN AND NICE!
