    Electric Assisted Steering Calibration on a 2014 Dodge Charger. This electric assisted steering frees up the HP on the engine, can be programmed for different steering configurations depending on the trim, and is in sync with ESC and other safety features. But once you cut the power from the battery, you SHOULD CALIBRATE it again. So check out the video.

    Actually I don’t know if I agree with this because the OEM dodge service manual says not to hold the steering at loch more than 2 to 4 seconds or will cause damage to the electric steering pump unit.

      Could also be the pins that are holding the aluminum guage bezel in place. The slots they snap into have the same plastic slides that crinkle up over time. They can all be replaced. Mine hasn't come back since.

    I did this in my 2013 chrysler 300 and did not work. i replaced the steering module for a used one and I'm getting code c005122 that is steering wheel position sensor amplitude maximum and the steering wheel is hard to turn right only. any suggestion?

      That, I do not know. Is the rack the original? And has it gone through a flush or check recently for the hydro electric fluid? I just had my done, but didn't have the pressure pump here, so had to see a dealer. The change was right before 100,000 for us. The old fluid was dark and almost like used oil. The flush helped us prolong the rack so far.

      The 13 charger has an electric pump in the fender. I find a common that after the first two to three years the pump fluid should be checked. It will dissipate quicker and is electric power steering fluid specific to our cars. It must me checked. Mine was depleted half way down, damaging the rack. I am currently in the process as we speak this week on getting a new pump put in. Mine was dry. 6 years in ownership.

      I had a red three Pearl and the first day it got scratched and dented on the right rear door. Man that was horrible and they never did blend it perfectly right said the whole side of the door I needed repainted as well as anything else reflecting that side I never got it done. And then we traded for this black one. Which in my opinion is just as bad when it comes to Benson scratches. Lol

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but it has to be done with the scan tool at Chrysler unfortunately. There is a process that the tool goes through on alignment, plant mode, distance, etc. There is no manual mode of calibration that I was ever aware of.

      How's the battery? if your battery is low, or under 500 CCA then you will have a hard time with the steering on the electric assist. If that battery is good, and I mean above those cold cranking amps, then it will need checked out for the pump assist located in the passenger forward wheel well.

    I have a 2015 challenger I got in car stated it up and no power steering, I can’t turn the wheel , can you help me , I also can’t find the reservoir , dealership says it electric and would cost 2,800.00 for new motor, to much money, any help appreciated.

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is an electric motor for that car. But electric assisted steering actually has the pump and reservoir in the passenger front fender. But if it's the motor itself it's going to be very pricey. Got to make sure by having a mechanic actually look at it. You can try to reset the entire car by disconnecting battery for about 30 minutes and reconnecting. Aside from that you could check any fuses or relays under the hood, but that's about it. The fluid type is specific to hydroelectric steering only. Either is available online or at the local dealership only. but it uses a pressure tool to put the fluid in and you can't just unscrew it and drop fluid into it. KIPP purges are bubbles out of the rack. Also make sure your battery is closed or above your cold cranking amps. Your battery has a lot to do with electric assisted steering...

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi

    When I'm driving and try to change lanes, It feels like the steering is delayed then suddenly pulls in that direction. Is this a calibration issue?

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's still a physical hook to the steering. The rack is just getting calibrated to resistance on the end pressure and there is a chamber on each side of the rack. What is happening is there is a need to see if there is any slight banging, then visual inspection for play. I am going through this right now with a left inner tie rod. It has worn, and is letting the car swing in an out at high speeds. Everything was changed recently. But we found the issue once the outer was removed and replaced. The inner is pas tolerance on mine.

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check my response below, but tire wall strength and some of the suspension is also a factor. But the type of tires can exaggerate the feel as well. I had these Hankooks once that were so soft it floated side to side. Especially my rear. It gave it a delayed feel.

    what are the signs if your steering wheel is not calibrated?

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll notice that the vehicle likes to pull further left and right immediately all the time previous if it was straight or just loose. Some customers experienced harder left pulling and some experienced harder right pulling the calibration should be dead center with a full range left to right

      I had the same issue with my 2010 Dodge Charger. The steering wheel felt loose and would not center. After taking it back several times and several Aliments, tires and brakes the tech recalibrated they steering. Problem solved.

    • @TheBoodog1
      @TheBoodog1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marcus Johnson the dealership is telling me it’s the natural behavior of the car. My car drove straight for a whole year. I had no issues until I took a short road trip. 3 aliments and new tires but no change. It’s difficult to drive in the rain and on the highway. I joined a Camaro Forum and spoke with Camaro owners with the same issue. Some say it “ Tramling” but most fault the Electronic Steering system and software complications. It’s a known issue but the mechanics don’t know how to fix it. It’s a simple calibration of the EPS. It’s all software related not hardware. Had the same issue with my Dodge Charger.
