It would not be a waste of time to play it note by note if that was the goal... I'd argue it would be an excellent recital piece. I discovered Aphex Twin back in 1996 when the Richard D James album came out. It was the music I'd been looking for my whole life. Come to Daddy came out in 97 (Flim track 2), and ever since Flim has been my favourite song. It's as light as a cloud, yet as deep as an ocean. It's great to see that it countinues to inspire people.
I feel you. Not gonna say it's what I was looking for, but art that initially confuses me piques my interest. I felt a similar way about Aqua Teen Hunger Force and P.T. Anderson's post-Magnolia movies.

When we were kids, we played covers of hippie music from the 60s. It seemed impossible when I was listening to Aphex in high school in 1993 that this would happen, but it makes sense! lol
He’s an amazingly skilled drummer, and insanely technical, but sometimes leaves me a little cold compared to my favorite drummers. Like what he play’s is awesome, but it doesn’t slap in that really visceral way for me, where I uncontrollably dance and make a stank face because the groove is that sick. He’s so young though, that I’m sure he’s still constantly improving
