Mac be moving like the drunk guy on karaoke night 😂
Looks like em too
I was looking for the right description 😂😂😂😂❤love it
He's feelin it bro
Bold of u to think he isnt drunk
That's.... Literally what he is tho
It sounds like they have a bass player but thats actually Domi playing bass keyboard in addition to the main keyboard. Thats really amazing.
*left hand
amazing!
she must be a doors fan.
They’re both outstanding musicians, like virtuoso level.
Yeah multitasking that blows the mind. I play keys and bass, but I can't even do either separately as well as she can do both at once.
Mac DeMarco in his Steely Dan phase
Now I need Mac to cover all of Can't Buy a Thrill
I'mma need some elaboration on that. He ain't hittin their melodies, their style, their soul, at all.
@@ChrisP3000x I think they're referring to the precise instrumentation in contrast to his own band's usual 'lazy' style. I know Mac is a big Steely Dan fan. He's covered Reelin' in the Years before.
@@ChrisP3000x It doesn't, but with the context of knowing that Mac is a big fan of theirs it makes more sense.
@@ChrisP3000x You're fighting the invisible man now.
Mac is showing all of us how to dance to music like this
Tuck in your shirt and let the vibe take hold of you.
you mean like a drunk crab?
Mac’s voice and this style go so well together
I mean this is his style. He just plays it a lot simpler, but I think his music definitely has this same style, just less virtuosity. I swear I've heard his songs use the same keyboard sounds and half muted drums
@@KR11111 That's what I'm saying
I love JDs dry sharp snare
Tight AF
Mac sitting down and getting out of the way for the solos is very genuine
It's musicians decorum. If the solist plays the same instrument, for example.
Class.
@almostausername96 He should have gotten completely out of the way for the entirety of the performance.🤦♂️
@@SuperGuirroNo it isn’t. Don’t talk about things you don’t know.🤦♂️
@@vannanalabomba Stop saying “class”.🤦♂️💩🤡
I just discovered Domi and JD. Damn these duo is a monster.
I have a bootleg of their set at the Newport Jazz Festival 2023. Let me know. Live is better than the album.
As a pianist, I'm blown away by Domi's playing. She's incredible. Her hand independence and ability with her left hand are phenomenal. I like that she got to show off a little bit in this performance, but I've seen footage of her playing even more challenging stuff with her left hand.
Other than the fantastic groove, the best thing about this performance is that Domi is sitting on a toilet while playing. These two don't need gimmicks for their performances, but it's still pretty funny.
As a guitar player who listens to a lot of jazz piano, it's truly insane. There are other performances where you basically are not able to tell whether there is a bass player playing on the side or Domi is doing it with her left hand. Forget about the technique, the musicianship from both guys is truly on another level. Unfortunately, the general public is not able to understand it, judging by the comments under Fallon's post on Instagram from their performance.
Woah! I kept wondering who was playing bass? Incredible!
FYI She uses her feet for the bass lines too
Damn I didn't notice she was sitting on a toilet until you pointed it out
I just figured it was a prerecorded bass track! That's crazy.
Got to see them live(plus Mac) in LA and during Domi's solo, Mac just frantically read off the drink menu at the bar lmao
That’s amazing 😂
shoulda gotten a clip lmao
God i hope someone recorded that, lmao
okay that's incredible
I'm impressed that this gets airtime on national TV in the US. What a great combination of artists too! Fun to hear Mac DeMarco grab on to this and thriving. Good stuff!
I totally agree. I adore all music, but this is almost next level for me - like I am looking at the future of music, something new. This is amazing and something to behold.
The fact she can play bass better with her one left hand than most can do on actual bass is insane
Man, I was thinking, who is playing bass? 😅 Her left hand
she plays bass with her feet on a lot of songs, too.
Damn I never even clicked with that. Crazy
Yeah because playing an actual bass vs a midi bass on a piano are 2 completely different skills. Do you not play an instrument?
@@Cobalt985 found the bass player
Love you Mac and cheese
What are you doing here?😂
my respect for you has increased tenfold
Oh wow.
I mess with the combo of Mac singing over their playing so much it’s so good
The chops are absolutely insane on this one. Glad JD pulled out the chops this time. And DOMi absolutely killed it too. One of my favorites off the album. Its amazing at not only being extremely technical but also simple enough to not push away the people not used to this style. Perfect balance in terms of pleasing both giant fans of these two (like me) and newer listeners.
yeah they’re definitely making jazz more “listenable” for the first-timers, glad you pointed that out.
@@thedrinkerofH2O Beside the killer bebop solo part
Yes I agree my friend. The pace of the drums makes this work stand out in the Jimmy Fallon eye as to original in modern time. Good for music 😎👍🏼
Yeah but the singer is awkward and any lyrics at all take away from what should otherwise be an instrumental piece.
@@reev9759 there’s an instrumental version of this too
I could listen to JD Becks chops all day🔥

a song in 9/8 on jimmny fallon's. Damn they've come a long way.
I was looking for a comment about the time signature, it's so nice when a song makes you pay attention and try and count - switching to 4/4 on the hook is a nice contrast, too
Mac reminds me of a dad at the junior high school dance who showed up to pick up their kid, and found the school assembly microphone then decided to improv a song that he had in his head.
hahaha, right on!!!
Mac has been so good for the music industry. He’s helped put a lot of good musicians out there who would’ve been overlooked otherwise. Sean Nicolas Savage and these guys are doing important shit.
these two just attract musicians that know good music. anderson paak and thundercat have been a huge help to them too.
Mac hasn't been the one to help them. I think Anderson Paak signed them to his label, but they've garnered attention themselves through being insane musicians. When you're a couple of child prodigies, people want to work with you.
@@allcapsbeats but having Mac and Thundercat and Anderson Paak will get them more notoriety from people cause they already have a huge fan base. That’s what I’m saying. But Mac helped the Garden also and got them a lot more exposure. And he produced Sean Nicolas Savage’s newest album. Mac hasn’t been making his own music as much recently. He’s just been working with other people and jump starting others careers. Do you understand what Im trying to say? He takes a lot of these people on tour with him so people can hear them. Like Donny Benét.
@@joshb8976 yeah I see what you're saying, I'm not disagreeing, but I think they attracted Mac, not the other way around. Mac just happens to be more famous than them. All these musicians exist in one big melting pot of talent.
jd and domi were going to be successful despite whoever helps because someone would have. they're unreal 🥵
All three incredible musicians but it’s very comical and bizarre . I love it. Love the toilet as a seat they’re set looks amazing
modern art
art director behind this duo is the true mvp.
JD Beck is a drum genius, unbelievable how he melt Jazz Funk electronic and videogame.
Domi is my favorite bassist. Way too good for the Tonight Show.
Haaa 😂 "Domi is my favorite bassist..." I've seen comments saying much the same, elsewhere - "She is going to put bassists out of business...!"
This is super special. Vision, skills & style. Marsalis & Co. should check this out and realize that jazz should not be preserved and exhibited in "museums". JD and Domi are intensely living in the here and now!!!!
Absolutely! Winton Marsalis the self appointed gatekeeper has devolved a vibrant art into an anacronistic minstrel show for the monied elites.
I’ve been a big Mac Demarco fan for awhile but I never knew of this duo. They are great! I’ll have to give this album a listen.
Domi and JD beck are 2 of the best musicians on the planet. Their new album which is also their first is so fucking good. The song with snoop dog and Busta rhymes is sooooo good.
Opposite for me. I’ve been following Domi and JD Beck for a long time. Literally no idea who Mac is.
@@eliecanetti you might like him, I recommend giving one of his albums a try!
@@eliecanetti i've heard of all three get on my level plebs
i get so mad sad and nostalgic when i listen to this. i wish i could play this good. it sounds so familliar and yet so impossible. freedom is being abe to creatively express myself fully, and that's why i'm envious of anything like this.
Just follow you own channeling, as in, play what you want to hear from yourself, it works. Yes, these guys are inspirational, but we each have something special to bring out. Play as if you are you are your audience.
Yes - keep at it - and fool around to find your style - find yourself! Just takes time ❤
Never have I been so happy for the success of two people I have never even met ❤️ You deserve all of it and more!
Two *𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘴 you have never even met ❤️
Yeah I found them years ago and it's super cool to see them finally getting the recognition they deserve.
It just sounds like corny fusion jazz. How is this special?
@@clairelodge72 it's not special, unless you can listen to music properly without just hearing dumb labels like "corny fusion jazz" and listen to what's actually happening
@@lewiji why are theh hyped? Why are theh on Tv? It sounds like bad Chic Correa. I am not sure why people are blown away by this.
Thats a beautiful stage design too.
Can’t stop watching this. Mac looks and sounds great, has a good stage presence and genuinely givin respect to the young folk… he was just as happy as we were with their performance 🎭
goosebumps on those solo's, dang!
Having heard a few iterations of this song over the years, I was on the fence over Mac’s singing on this, but it’s been stuck in my head all day. Genius.
Sophisticated Extreme Jazz
DOPE!!!! And Domi sitting on that toilet makes it that much more DOPE!
I love this album so much
which album is it?
@@gergsar not tight
I remember listening to their songs like 3 years ago, so cool to see them growing
This melted my face. Some of the most talented people alive on one stage together is such a wild thing to witness. Can’t wait to see what they do next!
I'm gonna tell my dad this is the new lineup of Steely Dan
He would be very disappointed.
Lol
Hahaha, yes!!!
At 3:38 he makes me think of Luigi saying 'Oh yes!' from Luigi's Mansion 3
I don't know why Mac Demarco has the t-rex arm but it works really well for the song. Great performance, love the set!
Wondering now if he’s neurodivergent. Lots of creative people are!
I hadn't heard anything from him for a while (not that I go looking tbh) but I wondered if it was an arm injury or something. Other possibility is a personal quirk to keep timing or something while singing.
So much talent on one stage
I convinced Domi's right & left hands are two independent musicians.
Believe it or not they actually aren’t independent- her right hand is signed to BMG and her left hand Universal
he radiates blissfully loving and healing energy
DOMI ON THE TOILET PLEAAAAASE
She toured like that too lmao
almost a year, misss this duo
That ride is bigger than my future
My brain fish-tanked after 23 seconds. I'm typing this in a post-fish tank state. Kinda weird, but the combo of piano and drum percussion with Drunk Uncle is working. I smell toast.....
Domi is the most underrated bass player of this year
Three of the most talented musicians I can think of - all together. I'm so happy about this, I cannot describe.
playing on a toilet so you can practice for longer, now thats real dedication!
Their music is shite so it makes sense
This trio is amazing
Love this.
I like seeing Mac in this space.
Domi and Jd just slaughtering it in the back.
Prog wrock
The left hand bass and drumming are insane.
Mac also has an amazing voice.
He’s drumming with his right too, genius.🤷♂️🤦♂️
@@spanqueluv9er the left and BASS. And the drumming. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Those mic catches were deaf defying.
Death*
Lol deaf defying
Giggled the whole time, fucking fantastic
Domi and JD are breaking this new jazz fusion game. I HIGHLY recommend the album this is on, other great features and just intense new music!!!!
You highly recommend other great features??🤔🧐🤦♂️🤡🤷♂️
@@spanqueluv9er what the fuck is this message meant to mean?
So beautiful, so innovative. Thank you Domi, JD Beck and Mac Demarco.
I was searching for the missing bassist in the frame and then I found her, very impressive.
You should watch the Mad Villainy medly they have on TH-cam, she shreds 🔥
✨ pure magic, outside of the beat like millions of miles. set like an aquarium. So good!
That's the most terrific performance ever…🥰🌟
It is great to hear vocals on this now. Absolute skills!! Great track 👍
One day I will catch these guys live. I hope they can make it as close as Montreal - maybe Jazz Festival 2023?
i have ordered studio logic bass pedals - im 50 years old and have been inspired by an angel in her early 20s, to push myself further - so god damned cool - all i need now is an armitage shanks piano stool
This is sooo cool! Really reminds me of the Allan Holdsworth era with Paul Williams! YES I AM OLD :) and it is so cool to see young folks to do music that is NOT BORING ME TO PIECES !!!
You're so right, I can hear Allan playing some serious guitar shredding on top of this
wowwwwww this guys and mac are so dope the solos, im musician i play the guitarr jazz etc its so dificult one instrument but DOMI play the bass and piano like "RAY MANZAREK" from THE DOORS and JD BECK is like a mix of the greatest 60s 70s drummers and even he has someting more special WOWWWWWWW
Great performance! I think JD BECK is cut short on the studio version though. The drumming sounds 10 times better live, without the digitalization. Just my opinion.
He got that t-rex swag
I love Mac’s goofy ass lol
anyone else notice Domi be sitting on a toilet
Real musicianship on network television!
This is amazing. The music summons the shrimp, and vice-versa.
Ohhhhh the shrimp is here!
Bravo à vous ! Vous êtes remarquables. Merci 🌺
that bass run at 1:42 ... good lord
What’s the story behind the Jolene 2 shirt?
Mac demarco with them is just insane. Still waiting for Qtip to hop on a track
I dont know how JD is so chaotic and crisp at the same time. Him, zach hill, nate smith - all have their own style but gotdamn each is so talented.
Please make an album together!
came here to watch Mac Demarco, was severely impressed DOMi
i love that they brought back the song they played on Zildjian Live! Mac was not an expected addition, but he really completes the song tbh lol
Perfect combination...
That was cool as hell, definitely checking this band out
You’re in for a treat. They just released their first album but they have tons of stuff uploaded to TH-cam, do a deep dive! Their cover of “my favorite things” is amazing as well as their Mad Villainy medley, highly recommend
Futuristic jazz...a mesmerizing mix of jazz modalities. 'Non-linear' ,and always shifting. What Domi does with her left hand bass keyboard is extraordinary. Incredible precision from both her and J.D. Where did these two come from?...another planet obviously. Recent discoveries about distant galaxies has confirmed there are jazz aliens visiting Earth in SpaceTime warping craft and invading concert venues.
I don't know who this singer is, but it works (in an odd way). His vocals are excellent. His goofy nerd presentation is certainly weird, but that says more about my own insecurities than anything about him, right? Great voice. It works perfectly.
On a side note, if this presentation appeared on the Tonight Show in 1970, it's likely they would never have been allowed to perform. I'm glad I live in this new age of music being way more egalitarian and willing to experiment (despite the label executives)
JD has so many different grooves
And he plays them all at once through every song.
This is my favorite SNL skit in a long time.
Lol. Classic Will Forte sketch.
Demarco has transformed into a T-Rex..
That was definitely something
Drummer goes so hard
So good!. (also love Domi's throne!)
That has got to be the sickest piano solo on a toilet, ever.
Can't wait for the next album. Hopefully you guys go crazier with the next album.
the other day I started an at home science project....been listening to a lot of great hip hop lately I needed something different I put this album on after a couple months off and I forgot how much I love these guys. not tight has real staying power that's an album I will periodically tap in with for the rest of my life
Just realised Two Shrimps is their Zildjian LIVE! performance song from 2020 (S2/E4)... feels so different here but still love it.
As someone who has followed along since pretty much the very beginning of your duo, I'm so happy to see you achieving success without having to compromise. You guys are the shit.
Excellent!!!
This is the coolest thing ever
3:13 Mac grinning and nodding when the audience starts to cheer at the solos like "yeah I know, aren't they incredible?"
I love Mac's left T-Rex hand
I must've seen this performance a thousand times so far.
I paused final tribal council of the survivor finale so that I could enjoy this musical performance
SPOILER ALERT
The AlliGabler took it down
Domi, JD Beck , and Mac = GOLD!
