@@ChrisP3000x I think they're referring to the precise instrumentation in contrast to his own band's usual 'lazy' style. I know Mac is a big Steely Dan fan. He's covered Reelin' in the Years before.
I mean this is his style. He just plays it a lot simpler, but I think his music definitely has this same style, just less virtuosity. I swear I've heard his songs use the same keyboard sounds and half muted drums
I was looking for a comment about the time signature, it's so nice when a song makes you pay attention and try and count - switching to 4/4 on the hook is a nice contrast, too

I totally agree. I adore all music, but this is almost next level for me - like I am looking at the future of music, something new. This is amazing and something to behold.
As a pianist, I'm blown away by Domi's playing. She's incredible. Her hand independence and ability with her left hand are phenomenal. I like that she got to show off a little bit in this performance, but I've seen footage of her playing even more challenging stuff with her left hand. Other than the fantastic groove, the best thing about this performance is that Domi is sitting on a toilet while playing. These two don't need gimmicks for their performances, but it's still pretty funny.
As a guitar player who listens to a lot of jazz piano, it's truly insane. There are other performances where you basically are not able to tell whether there is a bass player playing on the side or Domi is doing it with her left hand. Forget about the technique, the musicianship from both guys is truly on another level. Unfortunately, the general public is not able to understand it, judging by the comments under Fallon's post on Instagram from their performance.
The chops are absolutely insane on this one. Glad JD pulled out the chops this time. And DOMi absolutely killed it too. One of my favorites off the album. Its amazing at not only being extremely technical but also simple enough to not push away the people not used to this style. Perfect balance in terms of pleasing both giant fans of these two (like me) and newer listeners.
