- Diary of a Wimpy Kid may seem like a normal children's book series at first glance, but the main character Greg Heffley has a lot more going on to him than meets the eye. Let's dive deep into his disturbing mindset and figure out the type of person he is, as revealed through Diper Overlode...
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is popular again, with 2022 being a great year for Rodrick in particular. This new Wimpy Kid book, Diper Overlode, is the first time we're focusing on the character since Rodrick Rules! Greg Heffley joins Rodrick's band, Loded Diper, on their journey to fame.
There's also a brand new animated movie of Rodrick Rules heading to Disney Plus. Does Diper Overlode properly deliver on all the Rodrick hype?

I wonder how Greg would feel towards being sent to our world and finding out about stuff like “I’m not gay Greg” or people saying he’s a sociopath

The hilarious thing is, in an earlier book, Greg said about wanting to be famous, but then realised that his relatives would also be famous just because they were related, which is just so much foreshadowing...

I think it was more of a callback.
We should also mention that in the first book, Greg dropped many hints at becoming an author, maybe this book is about to foreshadow how he made it and his eventual change.

I don’t know why, but I feel like Rowley is 10x more annoying than Greg.
A book about Rodrick and his band is a really good idea, I’m surprised this book didn’t come earlier.
I’m glad we first got a Rodrick book again, then we get a Rodrick MOVIE. I am also glad Greg is helping out Löded Diper! [Hope Manny doesn’t ruin the band.]
Especially the animated one which was a nice change of pace

Y’all always complain about Rodrick’s flanderization but then you expect him to write a journal, something completely out of character for him

I found this book to be significantly better than the last two books. And Greg seemed a little bit more likeable too.
Just got Diper Overlode and Big Shot recently as a gift! Big Shot was one of my top 5. But Diper Overlode is in my top 3. The new books kinda gives me Old School vibes with all the unique characters! I hope the next book is just as good, if not better.
I just hope if the series does and it ends with Greg becoming a better person.
I like the new focused style, it used to be where the books would basically be filer until the very end where the actual main plot comes in and that style in the books was starting to become worse and worse. The new style fixes the problem. Though I do think in the older books the filer style worked really well.
I liked this book because Rodrick takes the lead role here as well as his band. I wouldnt mind reading more books with others in the lead with Greg taking the secondary role.

Me and my brother were so happy for this to come out and I did not disappoint! We even got signed copys at a loaded diper concert. Jeff Kinney was very fun and friendly in person

Oh I read that book when I was out shopping with mom in Cotsco and the book was totally awesome! I was like seeing Greg joining his brother to a roadtrip to becoming the world most famous rockstar band crew!
As someone who has all the books, I can’t wait to read this one.

Your diary of a wimpy kid videos are the best
Rowley actually did get famous later as the great slambino in the ecw, aew, and wwe he was famous for his patented Jefferson reverse slam and gentlemen's manners. He never became a heel and was active in the Marine Corps Reserve where he was drafted to the second Korea and saved his platoon by making a sacrifice play. He was honored posthumously with the medal of honor and the medal of freedom and buried next to the unknown soldier where his grave is guarded by a Marine honor guard as a national monument.

Only problem with Rodrick getting his own book:
1. It would be almost unreadable.
This was the first wimpy kid book I’ve read in YEARS, with the last one being the getaway.
I have to say, other than being salty I didn’t get the copy with the poster (I got the target exclusive with the sticker) this was one of my best reads, as it’s been AGES since I’ve read wimpy kid so I thought Kinney lost his touch after doing 17 books, but boy was I wrong.
Rodrick being my favorite character, and the most relatable as I’m an older brother that loves rock and roll, I had a blast with this book, is it better than “rodrick rules”? Probably not, but this was a grand ol time.
Plus I like the black color scheme for the wimpy kid books, the last one that did this was old school and I liked the plot of that one and how Greg ends up in summer camp, plus I liked the cover art due to the black color scheme and how Greg was holding a boom box with a tape in his hand, as at the time I was huge into cassettes.
As for the plot, that twist ending was pretty sick to me, and reminded me of phineas and ferb with love Handel.
Overall, loved this one, kinda wish Greg actually learned guitar as that would’ve been an interesting development, but I think the plot made since for the wimpy kid universe, as Greg learning to shred would’ve been against his character

They need a rodrick spinoff book
I do prefer these last 2 with a more focused story. They aren't so hyper focused on it that it becomes boring, they have enough variety that it feels a bit more like the early days of the series instead of the more meandering the last like 8 or 9 have felt like, with some exceptions.
After the last three disappointments (wrecking ball, deep end, and big shot) this one was surprisingly really good. I thought it was cool how it was just Greg telling loded diper’s story of how they got their first gig and how they tried to make their first album. Refreshing.
I can understand not liking big shot or the deep end, but wrecking ball?! C'mon bro
