@@Leopez02 Not entirely, but there is a section toward the beginning that sort of feels like a boss fight. Big creature several screens large, screen turns dark, menacing urgent-sounding music, patterns to learn and techniques to use. Like I said, you can't actually lose or die but you can take forever to beat it and get frustrated and quit before then -- if you're very very new. This was literally the first videogame (other than Solitaire and an iPad-based puzzle game) my wife had ever played in her life, so without the decades-long experience playing all kinds of games, it was all new -- and she struggled A LOT. And it was a nail-biter to watch -- will she persevere and beat the boss or will she give up and quit playing either temporarily or permanently? She did end up beating it but it was tense.

Blackmore isn't a hard boss fight. I don't know where they got this idea though. It's good to see Castlevania OE right around this part but they picked the wrong boss for their category.
In a normal playthrough, i would argue that dracula is a little harder (because of the wolf + beam combo). However, when I was playing a no-hit boss playthrough, Blackmore was probably the hardest boss (excluding Eligor, trash boss). I have a quick tip against shriek: equip the rune that you can hit back projectiles with fly to his face and start attacking. When he spits at you you hit back all of his projectiles
Funny enough, my first time fighting the Witch of the Lake in SS was an absolute cake walk. Then every single other playthrough in NG I did after that I got absolutely destroyed by her way too many times.
Shriek from *Ori and the Will of the Wisps,* Vahram from *Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,* Alfred from *Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night* and Raven Beak from *Metroid Dread* are all definitely and totally one of THE Hardest Metroidvania Bosses I've ever faced throughout the years.
@@AetherShade-b5g She is not too bad either , just heavy on the RNG side . I have beaten her with all 4 bindings at the same time dozens of times when I was playing HK daily .

I must say, I’ve seen a few of these bosses because either me or a friend played the respective games. The only one I’ve been able to beat was Menelias from POPTLC, but that was because I had difficulty on everything lowered (I have low vision). I played a few of the other games and never got even close to the encounters in this video.
That sign actually is the game, bro. It’s a mod. Plus, I’m willing to bet that there are at least 10 modded bosses in other metroidvanias that are harder. Plus, any radiance 1 is outdated. Try looking up any radiance 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0
@@Mono-.-.-Any Radiance is a completely different boss from Absolute Radiance, and was literally designed to be unbeatable. Only 100 people have beaten Any Radiance. It IS the hardest boss ever.

Eigong from Nine Sols. One additional phase in already hardest fight in the game, if you manage to go to true ending. And you cant cheat her by overleveling or hit trading. Either git good at parrying her leghty arythmic combos or die trying.
Just finished black myth wukong and it got me thinking about absolute radiance again. Still to this day the hardest boss I've ever fought in a game. Hardest challenge in a game I've played period. And that's just practicing in the hall of gods in godhome. I couldn't even imagine beating it after going through the entire pantheon of every boss in the game
the worst part of absolute radiance is that to get to her you have to beat 40 bosses, and the best part is that in this group of bosses there's also NIGHTMARE KING GRIMM AND THE PURE VESSEL and if you die to her, you have to beat the 40 bosses (including nightmare king and pure vessel) again
Glad to see la mulana, but it's hard to pinpoint a particular difficult boss, being a game in which losing your way and sequence breaking is the normal. I fought bahamut much later than when you are supposed, so he was a piece of cake. I believe la mulana 2 has hardest bosses too
Prince of Persia the Lost Crown is one of the best modern Metroidvania games alongside with Ori the Will of the Wisps and Metroid Dread, right below Hollow Knight; the king himself. Do not sleep on it. I am playing Nine Sols atm, currently I would place it below the mentioned 3.
Zombie Dragons is the craziest out of a whole litany of crazy difficult Circle of the Moon bosses. I've been stuck at Carmilla in the Advance Collection version for over a year!
Probably because Galamoth is From Sotn, there are sooo many op tactics in that game more than any other metroidvania. Crissagrim, Muramasa, shield buff stacking, beryl circlet, rune sword. Heaven's sword. And lastly Shield rod + alucard shield.
a good number of the bosses listed (from the games i played) aren't hard they are actually very easy you just need to know how to use abilities and read attacks something i think these guys lack in ability to do. if you want a boss that's "Hard" play GRIME and fight Dreamborn Terror a superboss with 6 phases and is not slow despite it being a combat metroidvania, the only way i killed the boss on it's last 3 phases was by abusing a ability with a consumable (think of using a healing spell or on an undead enemy)
Witch of the Lake in S&S was an absolute brickwall for me in my first playthrough of the game. Took me weeks to beat that boss. Then for whatever reason, in subsequent playthroughs I've barely struggled with that boss.
In my first walkthrough i completed the game using dark magic and that was total easy mode. Just for the note, you're getting those homing balls from witch of the lake and you can stunlock final boss with them to his death, same with every other monster
I feel like I initially struggled more with Orod my first playthrough of POP TLC Like Mendolias was a rough fight because he moves so fast but Orod has ridiculous reach with his Anchor Chain things.
a particular boss fight in Salt and Sacrifice almost made me break my xbox controller because they have an ability to fill an instant death meter when hitting you with certain attacks. When that meter is full, you either die instantly or your health is massively drained (if you're lucky)
I can think of one you missed, but I don't blame you for not having footage of it. Dead Cells' true final boss on the highest difficulty setting, The Collector. I've beaten Absolute Radiance, and I'm still afraid of that thing. Dead Cells doesn't mess around.
Whether or not Dead Cells is a Metroidvania is a matter of debate (personally, I consider it a roguelike but not a Metroidvania, as part of Metroidvanias are collecting “keys” (abilities) that open “locks” (areas you can’t access or transverse without the requisite key.) I agree Dead Cells’ final boss is tough as any on here, but I suspect it was excluded for the same reason I would exclude it. Side note- the same argument would go for Hades from Hades once you get to 64 heat on the Pact of Punishment.
@@chloemchll3774You do collect abilities in Dead Cells which allow you to access new areas, though, so maybe it would be best considered a roguelike with metroidvania elements?
Isn't dead Cells a Rouge Like Platformer with Metroidvania elements. While the game has ability gated abilities, the game is less about exploration and more about getting better gear and getting to that next boss to beat.
@@CheddahSlammer If we're being very picky about definitions, sure, it doesn't belong here. I personally consider a Metroidvania roguelike to be in both genres (they literally just got a Castlevania DLC), but if it's got to be one or the other, makes sense to leave it out. Also a tad personally biased; I like tremendously difficult final bosses that are very, very hard to reach.
The Emperor from Aeterna Noctis was so difficult, he literally crashed my game and corrupted my data which ultimately filtered me. Poof! 70 hours and I didn't beat the game.
That sucks , the Slime Queen and I mutually killed each other and I couldn't get the 100% so I had to play again and make save states just in case . Heck now I have beaten all the Mythic bosses and all the gauntlets even on hard more .
Don’t forget the final two boss encounters in the tower. It was a nightmare and a half, and I manages to finish them before they added the easier mode. Also, the combo trials almost made me break my controller. But it was an amazing game. Punishing at times, but loved it a lot.
Funny how hard some of these bosses are, and then you put the time in and can then practically do it in ur sleep. I’ve played just about every Castlevania game so many of them are mixed up in my head but there were a few bosses on the handheld games that were ridiculous. The goat head boss in Circle of the Moon and one of the Dracula fights that was on pillars where one hit would knock you off..Among a few others
Another one in hollow knight while I am well aware of absolute radiance's difficulty from the other hallow knight dlc come nightmare king grimm the dream version of Grimm and boy if you don't have perfect timing he will eat you alive within seconds to this day beating him is my proudest gaming achievement and it took me so long that I didn't even remember what I needed to do afterwards
by the time i got to shriek i had a monster health bar cuz i thought it would end the game for me so i wanted to get completion first. Only problem was that i robbed myself of a great fight by accidentally being able to tank like the whole fight.
Eviterno's 2nd phase made me give up on Blasphemous II, also did Zangetsu for Bloodstained (2nd fight), I just can't keep up with their fast movesets. Other bosses that should be on this list (and I managed to beat) are Medeya from The Last Faith, Black Virtue, Sserthris or Dan'nuhrr from Elderand or the NG+ boss; Dreamborn Terror from GRIME.
Use Sarmiento and Centella for the fight, the second hit from his 3-hit combo is parryable and you can smack the hell outta him. When he loses his mind and starts with the AoE attacks, just run in a direction and don't dash instantly after he appears, just wait a few steps before dashing and he won't hit you. I killed him on the 4th or 5th try in my first playthrough, I was lucky to choose S&C as my first option 😋
Eviterno is honestly vastly overhyped on his difficulty, he's fast but you can literally just slide for most of his attacks, and he has no contact damage making him very forgiving for a Blasphemous boss, I personally found Odon much harder in B2, and Isidora as the hardest overall in the Blasphemous series
Absolute Radiance does have some bullshit moments at times with it combining attacks here and there with the beams and the flying swords. If you haven’t beaten it before, you really should save your soul for the 2nd phase to heal before it starts. The 2nd phase at first glance is very difficult if you chase it constantly but waiting on the bottom platform does make it pretty easy. The balls that follow you constantly hit other platforms while trying to chase. The hardest part for me is the climb. While it is easily doable without taking damage, you do have to find the right rhythm and if you don’t you could easily get hit by a ray it sends 3 or 4 times. And the final phase is pretty easy. Stay on the left platform and pogo on it three times every time it comes to the middle or the left. It really is a very tough fight to beat for the first time, especially with it being double damage so a couple mistakes ending your run which is devastating on P5 but once you beat it once or twice, you really get super comfortable with it and the hall of gods really makes that super easy since you can fight it over and over.
Interesting list, but I mean, these bosses are more "tough on a first playthrough" than anything, not consistently hard. Shriek from Ori 2, I took down on my 2nd try with ease; the sandworm chase for me was way, WAY harder, that thing took so many lives with its bs timing. And I mean, Eviterno from Blasphemous 2? What about Isidora from Blasphemous 1? I'd argue she's much, much tougher to master
@@jesusvera7941 Agree, the only problem with Isidora is that she has a gazillion HP, once you learn her moveset she becomes quite manageable. Crisanta is harder. Eviterno was a cakewalk with Sarmiento and Centella, his 3-hit combo is parryable and you can just eat his HP.
For the record ravenbeak never slept with anyone. The chozo are infertile anyways. I feel like people who aren't familiar with the series take it ultra literally She has his DNA, it's the DNA they infused her with to make her badass enough to survive the cruel atmosphere and gravity on planet zebes as a child
I guess MojoPlays aren’t familiar with the lore of Metroid. But I’m kind of annoyed that Raven Beak is on every single list about video game bosses. Sure he is hard, and it was cool to fight an evil Chozo, but people will just not stop talking about him and he is overrated because of this.
Neither of those are Metroidvanias, they're Roguelikes. Completely separate genre. Dead Cells has some slight Metroidvania elements but is decidedly *not* a Metroidvania.
Eviterno on Blasphemous 2 was a difficult Boss till first patch when they nerfed some of penintent’s skills. As a casual player, after that I had to quit the game for the good of my mental sanity
That's because you beat Radiance, not Absolute Radiance, which is a tougher version of Radiance that's in Hollow Knight's DLC. Radiance is free, Absolute Radiance is hell on Earth.
Menolias is suuuper easy, just get the void blade amulet and attack from the distance. On the second fase he is fast but almost every time does the same pattern. It won’t be as spectacular but you can beat it without breaking a sweat

I'm so happy that Shriek made the list, she was very tough but once you get the patten down its a super fun fight.
Yeah, the mid air section caught me off guard
Personally, I'd say mora the spider was harder.
I think Summum from Worldless deserves a spot here. Hugely underrated game, and insanely skilled combat.
I don't know, I found Raven Beak quite easy, his moves are quite predictable
@@MetroidFusion5044 Yeah, I guess Raven Beak isn't actually that hard to beat
Absrad is on a completely different level from those other bosses
@@AetherShade-b5g She is not too bad either , just heavy on the RNG side . I have beaten her with all 4 bindings at the same time dozens of times when I was playing HK daily .
How about Absolute Radiance from HK ?
the final boss of Trash Quest was surprisingly tough
I have an example:
Boost Guardian (Metroid Prime 2)
As much as I want a remake of MP2 to match the MP1 remake, I am not looking forward to doing that fight again.
I must say, I’ve seen a few of these bosses because either me or a friend played the respective games. The only one I’ve been able to beat was Menelias from POPTLC, but that was because I had difficulty on everything lowered (I have low vision). I played a few of the other games and never got even close to the encounters in this video.
We’re all forgetting about any radiance, the modded boss fight.
@@Agent-ym8ke wrong. I find immortal to be harder. I also find chef saltbaker and glumhouse giant from cup head to be harder.
@@Mono-.-.-You’re telling me you’ve gotten farther into the Any Radiance boss fight, something only 100 people have beat, than you have Chef Saltshaker?
@@Agent-ym8ke yes. Hell, even getting to the hard bosses in cuphead is harder than any radiance.
Eigong from Nine Sols. One additional phase in already hardest fight in the game, if you manage to go to true ending. And you cant cheat her by overleveling or hit trading. Either git good at parrying her leghty arythmic combos or die trying.
God tier boss design
Just finished black myth wukong and it got me thinking about absolute radiance again. Still to this day the hardest boss I've ever fought in a game. Hardest challenge in a game I've played period. And that's just practicing in the hall of gods in godhome. I couldn't even imagine beating it after going through the entire pantheon of every boss in the game
the worst part of absolute radiance is that to get to her you have to beat 40 bosses, and the best part is that in this group of bosses there's also NIGHTMARE KING GRIMM AND THE PURE VESSEL
and if you die to her, you have to beat the 40 bosses (including nightmare king and pure vessel) again
Glad to see Metroid on the list
Galamoth or the Zombie Dragons not being the Castlevania pick is wild
Zombie Dragons is the craziest out of a whole litany of crazy difficult Circle of the Moon bosses. I've been stuck at Carmilla in the Advance Collection version for over a year!
Probably because Galamoth is From Sotn, there are sooo many op tactics in that game more than any other metroidvania. Crissagrim, Muramasa, shield buff stacking, beryl circlet, rune sword. Heaven's sword. And lastly Shield rod + alucard shield.
Most of these bosses took me longer than the whole game to beat
I don’t remember Shriek being nearly that hard, but that’s just me
a good number of the bosses listed (from the games i played) aren't hard they are actually very easy you just need to know how to use abilities and read attacks something i think these guys lack in ability to do. if you want a boss that's "Hard" play GRIME and fight Dreamborn Terror a superboss with 6 phases and is not slow despite it being a combat metroidvania, the only way i killed the boss on it's last 3 phases was by abusing a ability with a consumable (think of using a healing spell or on an undead enemy)
It's not just you, Shrike was a joke of a boss. But still fun to fight.
Pronty is not a well known, but the Hellish Rabbitus is one really hard boss, that requires you to use all your skills you learned to even beat.
should play grime and fight Dreamborn Terror might make you reconsider putting Raven Beak on the list as his attacks are Childs play to read
true ending eigong from nine sols - crazy game
Eigong really went "Hesitation is defeat" and proceeded to kick my ass for four hours straight. One of the most fun bosses I've ever fought IMHO
To my surprise I've actually fought 4 of these, agree with all of them being here. Love the SpongeBob reference.
I feel like I initially struggled more with Orod my first playthrough of POP TLC
Like Mendolias was a rough fight because he moves so fast but Orod has ridiculous reach with his Anchor Chain things.
Blackmore? I think he is way easier compared to Eligor or Jiang Shi, but I'm still glad we get to see Order of Ecclesia in a video!
a particular boss fight in Salt and Sacrifice almost made me break my xbox controller because they have an ability to fill an instant death meter when hitting you with certain attacks. When that meter is full, you either die instantly or your health is massively drained (if you're lucky)
Shriek was tough but i found it doable. AbsRad is so much harder than it it’s crazy
Me in Ori when I accidentally used the shard that deflects projectiles and beat Shriek’s final phase in one hit 😮
When I Fought against RavenBeak i forgot how to slide. Easy to say that it Took me more attempts of What it should.
Time to add the final boss of Nine Sols to this list🤣🤣
"Hesitation is defeat" ahh bossfight
I can think of one you missed, but I don't blame you for not having footage of it. Dead Cells' true final boss on the highest difficulty setting, The Collector. I've beaten Absolute Radiance, and I'm still afraid of that thing. Dead Cells doesn't mess around.
Whether or not Dead Cells is a Metroidvania is a matter of debate (personally, I consider it a roguelike but not a Metroidvania, as part of Metroidvanias are collecting “keys” (abilities) that open “locks” (areas you can’t access or transverse without the requisite key.)
I agree Dead Cells’ final boss is tough as any on here, but I suspect it was excluded for the same reason I would exclude it.
Circle of the Moon’s Zombie Dragon is the most infuriating I’ve ever played.
I actually played hollow knight for 5 years or so and only this year I finally defeated absolute radiance and 112%d the game
U should play Nine sold... it's insane
Great video made me remember some of these guys falling.
I can't believe F.IS.T. Forged In Shadow Torch isn't mentioned in this video. That is a GOOD metroidvania styled game.
Don’t forget the final two boss encounters in the tower. It was a nightmare and a half, and I manages to finish them before they added the easier mode. Also, the combo trials almost made me break my controller.
But it was an amazing game. Punishing at times, but loved it a lot.
Out of the 3 of these I've beaten (Shriek, Raven Beak & Absolute Radiance) I'd say Absolute Radiance is definitely the hardest.
Awesome list
It's horrible.
Absolute radiance was a nightmare
Thanks ! You talk about Ori
honorable mention: The Queen on 5BC (Dead Cells)
No offence but Ori should not be on this list… it’s an exceptionally easy game.
I would like to add Medeya, The Cosmic Voice.
Nightmare King was amazing but he was instantly replaced when Pure Vessel arrived.
Any metroidvania video would be incomplete without some mention of hollow knight.
and it's good like this
I only have fought with Raven Beak. LOL.
METROID DREAD MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
id like to add Summum from Worldless
Web of Shadows DS. The Symbiote Leader.
by the time i got to shriek i had a monster health bar cuz i thought it would end the game for me so i wanted to get completion first. Only problem was that i robbed myself of a great fight by accidentally being able to tank like the whole fight.
Is no one going to mention Crisanta phase 3 from the Blasphemous DLC?
Galamoth from Symphony of the Night.
Im a simple man. I see ori and hollowknight, i watch
understandable
Ori and the will of the wisps is so underrated
Gremory was much harder than Alfred in blood-stained ritual of the night. Some of his attacks and tactics may have been annoying, but he was not hard.
Top 10 easily could be just blasphemous and hollow night bosses
That giant head in blaspheme 2 for the second ending I still can’t beat. Eviterno was easy compared.
You forgot most unhinged Boss of Castlevania: Death of Ária of sorrow
I am surprised the final boss from luna night was not on this list.
For me it was heroic endless in deaths gambit. Crazy thing was thing was that I ended beating her without getting hit in other playthroughs
If you learn when to parry her she becomes much easier , but she was definitely hard on heroic no doubt .
Isidora? i think crisanta was harder imo.
Imagine getting to absolute radiance 💀
Raven beak was absolutely awesom fight my favourite boss in the list
Only from popular indie games that SHOULD'VE BEEN MINE!
For the record ravenbeak never slept with anyone. The chozo are infertile anyways. I feel like people who aren't familiar with the series take it ultra literally
She has his DNA, it's the DNA they infused her with to make her badass enough to survive the cruel atmosphere and gravity on planet zebes as a child
& wield the power suit etc etc
I guess MojoPlays aren’t familiar with the lore of Metroid. But I’m kind of annoyed that Raven Beak is on every single list about video game bosses. Sure he is hard, and it was cool to fight an evil Chozo, but people will just not stop talking about him and he is overrated because of this.
I didn't have a problem with Shriek, that Chozo bastard though...
I've beat Absrad in a handful of attempts. It took me about 3 hours to beat the Emperor of AN haha.
Mother Brain from the OG Metroid is insanely hard too.
I beat your top 2 :) Beat hades 32 heat with a few weapons. Working on dead cells 5bc now. Dead cells 5bc is way harder than anything in this video.
Neither of those are Metroidvanias, they're Roguelikes. Completely separate genre. Dead Cells has some slight Metroidvania elements but is decidedly *not* a Metroidvania.
I beat P5 in hollow knight! and absolute radiance is... well... quite tiring
Eviterno on Blasphemous 2 was a difficult Boss till first patch when they nerfed some of penintent’s skills. As a casual player, after that I had to quit the game for the good of my mental sanity
I just managed to beat the radiance and do the "dream no more" ending but i can say she is like 10% from NGK
That's because you beat Radiance, not Absolute Radiance, which is a tougher version of Radiance that's in Hollow Knight's DLC. Radiance is free, Absolute Radiance is hell on Earth.
Bahamut of La-Mulana?
Clearly they never played the sequel as the final boss of La-Mulana 2 wpuld put our fish friend to shame....
Menolias is suuuper easy, just get the void blade amulet and attack from the distance. On the second fase he is fast but almost every time does the same pattern. It won’t be as spectacular but you can beat it without breaking a sweat
Zeus from god of war 3 would have been a funny mention to do
God of War is not a Metroidvania though
@@N_Tertainment7 my bad I got confused, that is a 2d fighter boss fight
How is Alfred a difficult fight in Bloodstained when the second battle against Zangetsu and Gremory are right there
No list is complete without Dark Demon from Demon’s Crest
People struggle with Shriek? I only had problems with Kwolok
Alfred? Zangetsu II or OD maybe but ALFRED?!?
