What an absolutely beautiful door!!! Black Forest has an outstanding reputation for quality doors, but you and the team have surpassed yourselves. It speaks volumes that Brad trusts the team to progress from being "advanced chiselers" to "expert chiselers" while working on such an important job. Thanks for again showing the world what an amazing team can accomplish. It's always a pleasure to watch true craftsmen demonstrating high levels of proficiency. Keep up the GREAT work!!!!
Thank you so much John! Yes, we have an incredible team and we're lucky we can trust them with things like this, and we know they'll do good work! We will!!
That is beautiful workmanship! For last minute desperation, your team pulled off an amazing piece! Hope your carving "professional" realizes he's no longer necessary.
I love this. 50 years ago you would never share info like this but these days it does not matter if you tell someone how to do it most people would never compete with the quality or effort or if they do they wont make any dent in the market
shims behind the hinge on install is the goat! It saved my dad and I a couple hours of work when our installer (of a boring door) did that and our door swell over time
i been waiting for this door to be posted on here, i kept coming back and looking for it everyday and it’s finally here… great job on the door we love it #SBOFN
Hey Guys! That was amazing to see, is there nothing that fazes you? Yes we can, no matter what the problem is, we can do it! Ime just lost for words. Cudos to the whole team. Thank you for sharing as always, cheers Michael.
WOW!!!!! You guys knocked this one clear out of the ball park and the bases were loaded!!! This should be put in the Ginis Book of World Records for a first time hand carving. Beautiful!!!
Most impressive is how the entire team rallied behind each other. Pushing the limits under a tight deadline to not fail. Remarkable guys! Unbelievable finished product!
Absolutely outstanding work, Black Forest. The craftsmanship displayed under time pressure while fighting against the nerves of working on such an expensive piece, is beyond phenomenal! Miigwetch (thank you) from Sandy Bay
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful! Boys, you guys are big guns, sharp shooters…..you nailed it! Great job, superb skills and excellent attitude and respect towards customer and customer’s wishes! 👍👍👍
Extraordinary work on the carving and painting, I can't even imagine having to do something like that at the last minute. I've done some carving before and every single time it terrifies me. So easy to make a single mistake, go a little too far, and ruin your already finished work you were carving. And I would guess that the softness of Sapele, at least compared to other harder woods, probably helped with the carving as well. And, incidentally - it makes me jump for joy to see so much Sapele being featured. I make and sell cutting boards and Sapele is by far the wood I use most, I just love it. I don't know about prices in Canada, but it's always wild to see how affordable it is in the US, at least compared to TH-cam woodworking's favorite wood, black walnut. Just marvelous work! I'm sure that door will be appreciated by many people for decades to come.
We were a little stressed and worried initially but once the guys started they loved it and were having a lot of fun carving! Yes, sapele is definitely way more affordable than black walnut! Thank you so much!
Good morning 🌅 B , F , W , C, That is a great looking 👀 piece of Art Work, well worth the effort and time, especially learning as you go to do your carving, it has been many years since I’ve done any amount of serious carving, I have close to 200+ carving chisels , and it is all about patience, and studying the grain as you go to carve it, I had a leather strap with cutting compound, so I always had a very sharp edge, you could see your face in the metal work, I still have my SCM 520 E in white, it looks to be exactly the same as yours, great machines, Keep up the amazing work stay safe look forward to your next project , retired English man living in France,
I mean goddam this is an impressive piece of art! Regardless of having to take on some parts with various skill/experience levels, you all stepped up and it looks fantastic Appreciate the bare bones explanations and coverage of the problem solving and story telling too Dylan you certainly know that we all wanna get that JAM(B) in the HOLE when it comes to appreciating the builds you showcase :P much love from Australia
Amazing door!!! love to see team come together to create such beautiful project. Way to let the team step up and let the guys carve Brad I know its hard to do that!
Wow!!! The doors came out perfectly. Your business have some very talented people working for you. It's great these employees get to learn new skills but apply them like professionals. I really like the color of those doors. What was the name of the mahogany you used for the door? Is it readily available or a special order? Is it expensive per board foot? Congrats on a job well done.
Beautiful door guys. I would be giving all after cost as bonuses to the crew. That’s such a huge ask for them, well most of them, to go outside their knowledge level, way out outside. I maybe a woodworker, even an artistic woodworker, but it’s such a different level of skill to do true art within a wooden project like that. I can’t paint, draw, or anything close to am artist unless it’s joints and sharp and crisp chisel lines. Power carving I guess I can do to a degree. I have trouble staying within lines with a router. Lol. Lovely job everyone.
I refinish a lot of doors, mostly mahogany. After seeing the damage from weather, I learned to use a clear penetrating epoxy primer before applying the final finish. I would be interested to see how the hard wax oil stands up to the weather.
We find oil stands up better than polyurethane. We used to only do polyurethane on exterior doors but found after a few years it would dry up and chip off if it's been exposed to harsh weather. The oil finish is a much easier maintenance because if it looks dull we can just add another oil coat on top. With poly, we would have to take the whole door off and bring it back to our shop to sand it down and then sand it back for refinishing.
Gorgeous doors! I get the draw of hand carved works, but I'm curious if you guys considered doing the carving on the CNC, and if so, why you decided against it. Regardless, amazing work by all!
The painter kid did amazing. The technique of placing the pinky down (consciously or unconsciously) to stabilize the hand is a baller move. It's used by surgeons, highly skilled craftsman, etc. Excellent job man
Thank you! These clients specifically requested a hand-carved door! So yes, the Shaper would have been easier but it wouldn't be what the clients asked for

Great work as always! Honest question, why wouldn't you CNC or Shaper Origin the carving? Was the client looking for "imperfection"?
Totally!
The client asked for hand carving!
Hi there! Could you please tell me how long the cake "survived" in the resin? I'm thinking about doing the same thing and would really love to know...
It's still in there haha, it's in our office sitting on a cabinet. It definitely doesn't look as fresh as it once did but it's holding up still!
Getting thrown in the deep end , the best way to learn a new level of skill .
Agreed!
I refinish a lot of doors, mostly mahogany. After seeing the damage from weather, I learned to use a clear penetrating epoxy primer before applying the final finish. I would be interested to see how the hard wax oil stands up to the weather.

Incredible work! Really well done, guys! 👏🏼
just for curiosity, why not use a CNC machine for carving?
Our client asked for hand carving specifically
Yasss queen. Get it queen. SLAY 😂 and i agree!
Hope you paid your carvers a little extra!! Job well done
Well Done!
Good morning 🌅, Again, I forgot to mention, it might be a good idea to put a drain grill in front of the doorway, France.
Is there anything u guys can't do? Congrats beautiful piece.
Thank you so much!
fuckin nailed it boys
Thank you 😁😁
I would have preferred it without being painted. But, I am not the customer :) Door is def nice though, looked to be about 3" thick.
Its amazing but how do you caulk it or seal it from driving rain?
There are closed cell neoprene gaskets around all of the panels.
The painter kid did amazing. The technique of placing the pinky down (consciously or unconsciously) to stabilize the hand is a baller move. It's used by surgeons, highly skilled craftsman, etc. Excellent job man
Pinky technique is common among automotive pinstripers.
It was intentional! Garett had a lot of good techniques he showed us!
Great work as always, just wondering did you consider using a Shaper to do the carving, would that have made things easier for you potentially?
Thank you! These clients specifically requested a hand-carved door! So yes, the Shaper would have been easier but it wouldn't be what the clients asked for
Brad, use a push stick on that job site saw unless you want to be known as "Stumpy" in the future. 😊
Thank you.
Interested as to why the CNC was not an option for the carving?
CNC, CNC, CNC... this was done by hand for a reason.
They asked for it to be carved by hand
That planer is not 1960s lol! It a early 90s
Well now I want to see the halo guns 😂
You can look at his Instagram @prairiemountainstudios to see them!
Why carve when you have a CNC? It does as good or better. Especially with Prism lettering.
In this case, our client requested this piece be hand carved.

21:04 Is that just the angle or the door has dents in it ?
No dents.
Just the angle, that's the metal from the latter reflecting onto the wood grain
What is the difference between a woodworker and a carpenter?
Love the doors, but can we can we get dad a push stick so hopefully he can keep his fingers where they go? 😮
Thanks for the concern. I typically use a push stick when ripping under 2 inches.
