    Someday, the phone will ring in the middle of the night and I'll hear the magic words, "This is Jessica Faust speaking."

    This is such a fantastic topic. Getting a peek into your process is really eye opening and will help me appreciate what an agent does. You guys are rockstars!

    This whole month I have been over the moon with joy of how many videos you have been posting! I love it! It’s an wonderful unexpected surprise. Being and at home mom is a blast but repetitive toddler conversations can sometimes where on ya. Just to hear a conversation about writing and tips of how to improve from you guys makes the day all the more better. Keep them coming!!!

      I totally agree! Listening to Jessica and James has helped me feel more comfortable with the publishing world. Listening to them helps me see a future of my books being published often.

      Your comment made me think of a podcast I watched on TH-cam recently, with a writer- Kelly Corrigan on the Rich Roll podcast. It's a great conversation, you might enjoy it

    Lol, you two are such a hoot!!! I've binged watched a bit and I don't think there was one video, where I didn't chuckle out loud. Hugs, Sunshine

    Maybe you two can do a video describing how much a first-time novelist can be expected to get from a first contract, and how it's paid out in 3 installments. Might be helpful.

    I'm extraordinarily late to this party but the fantastic insight is just one reason why I follow this channel and encouraged everyone on my blog (all two of them) to also follow this channel. Thanks for sharing.

    Love your videos! Can you guys make a video on synopsis? When to have it ready, what it should contain, and how it's different from what is included already in the query? 😊💛

    I absolutely love this video! Thank you.
    I think I've been a little in denial about the social media aspect. It's great that you guys engage in researching the background of authors but what would your reaction be to an author tweeting about political views that may be different from yours? Recently, I got embroiled in a debate on Twitter where I was pointing out the misandry in the popular hashtag "Men are trash". I wasn't being abusive or anything, and tried my best to be rational, but I don't want my political views to interfere with my writing career. I've been noticing an increasingly feminist environment in the writing community on Twitter, which is awesome, but this is also accompanied by a misandrist tilt. In that case, a potential client actually defending men and not attacking them might appear offensive to an agent. Should I remove those tweets or create a different account to put forth my honest views? Or is it not that big a deal and more a case of if an agent can't tolerate a different opinion, then I shouldn't be working with them in the first place?

    If you guys received a query for a YA speculative sci-fi that was 100K, would you automatically reject for the word count even if you enjoyed the query? I’m in the final stages of editing and I’m worried my manuscript is going to be too long for a debut YA novel :( love your videos and personalities, you guys are amazing!

    • @BookEndsLiterary

      That's not too far outside of the word count rage that we would automatically reject BUT if you're worrying it's too long, there are probably places that can be trimmed.

    How much rewriting are you generally comfortable with when considering representation? If a book needs a complete overhaul, is that an automatic no?

  • @richardruiz4668
    @richardruiz4668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jessica said she's has never not offered representation due to something she saw on a future authors social media. But what if they had no social media...yet?

  • @Exorbity
    @Exorbity 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fact that you usually know right away doesn't necessarily have a connection with the quality of the book. I mean, a dozen agents who refused Harry Potter also knew. It just shows how the agent works, that's all.

    Can you tell us your common questions to authors? You mentioned a few but you had a whole list :)

    Do you represent English writers/English fiction?

  • @pagejustin5572
    @pagejustin5572 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do like these videos.... But aside from the info about your personal preferences and decision making processes I find that almost of all of the information in all of these videos is information that an author should have already researched enough to know before they ever sent a query..... Although I suppose if you're just learning to query these can be very helpful

    Dear Jessica and James, I would love to send you my metanovel Wooligaga. Fortunately I have a backup copy that was not seized in the 8/3/22 FBI raid of Trump's Maralago estate.
