  • An assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, US has raised questions around the increasing polarisation in elections and led to a call for unity by both parties. In Episode 1481 of #CutTheClutter, Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta looks at the complexities of a deepening polarisation in US societies, traces a quick history of the Republicans & Democrats, & America's easy gun culture.

    Ronald Reagan was a strong supporter of free trade and was anti-union. The result is that a lot of labor intensive manufacturing shifted out of the USA. China saw its opportunity. It liberalized its economy and improved relations with the US. Today you cannot buy a TV made in the US. Shoes, Clothing, small appliances and light bulbs are all imported from China and quality is generally quite good. India continued with closed economy and License Raj.

    If, I can strongly disagree with this analysis: I watched the vox videos years ago, so not watching it now. Nowhere in those videos do they use terms like right & left so frequently as they are used in this CTC. Such terms pollutes the political debate. However, its a disservice of the worst kind when we use such terms while talking economics. With all due respect towards the incredible things that I learn through this segment, I think terms like right & left are used frequently when one can't differentiate between right & wrong

    @SGsir I am also not an expert on US politics but from what I know this is a flawed telling of US political history... calling progressivism the successor to anti-slavery is wrong... liberty/freedom is the successor to anti-slavery... progressivism or so called affirmative action or positive discrimination is just euphemism for discrimination and are tools of social engineers and anti-liberalism. So, Republicans have always been a party of liberty, be it in opposing slavery, or wanting small government, or free market, or opposing diversity quotas...modern journalists and universities equate progressivism with liberalism when they could not be further from each other....Since as back as the French revolution people knew that "liberty, equality (or rather equity) and fraternity" which made the French moto are infact opposing ideals and a liberal/free society will never give you equality of outcome.

    AR-15 more potent than AK-47, that is hilarious! Please get yourself educated. AK-47 is a full automatic rifle, while AR-15 is semi-automatic. 7.62x39 bullet used in an AK is a higher grain bullet than 5.56 NATO used in AR.

    • @Shawn_Pereira
      @Shawn_Pereira 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      True to that. The civilian version of AR15 is semi - automatic, but the military version comes with full auto. Although illegal, but a civilian with technical knowledge can customize an AR from semi to full auto all by himself. Even if 7.62 mm comes with a larger punch compared to 5.56 mm, the later one happens to be more accurate with less recoil. No wonder the terrorist all over the world dump their AKs when they got their hands on NATO rifles.

    We keep being told that America is polarized but perhaps it has rarely been more united? It is not difficult to appear to be united when the two main parties and candidates are extremely similar and promoting very similar policies and agendas but is this being united? What the people want is practical common sense not left or right-wing extremism pretending to be centralist when it is anything but. Elections are won from the middle and people like Farage and Trump represent this very middle not what their respective establishments both want and need but what the people both want and need. This is by definition political centralism and what democracy is supposed to deliver. This is why all ruling elites, are perfectly terrified by Farage, Trump, and others. They divide so they rule. This leftwing v rightwing, but the establishment always wins BS, is being called out and found wanting. These chaps represent our slave-owning class's worst possible nightmare come true, just as they thought they had this one in the bag.
    Everything seems to be falling apart around them including their much beloved EU, China, and once-captured Russia. Their Utopian Wet-dream of a Global Empire under their exclusive rulership is fast turning to dust. This is what they really mean when they say Trump is a threat to democracy. What we don't understand is that "making the world safe for democracy" means something very different to the common people than it does to them. What they mean is safe for those who control the so-called democratic world, not safe or prosperous for the people who live within these places.
    We need to also remember that they have been expensively selling this 'Utopian' concept of a One World Government to the world for well over 100 years, and some will argue much longer than that. Therefore these power-obsessed despots are not going to give up, not now or at any time in the future.
    Their dream will likely happen one day, the only questions are when and how many millions if not billions of us will need to be sacrificed for this to happen. Make no mistake, they really don't care how many, or even when, that much. They don't care if 99% of the world's population has to be murdered or stopped from being born in the first place. We outnumber them by many millions to one, and very understandably they don't like these kinds of odds.
    Prince Phillip of the UK is quoted as saying that he wished to be reincarnated as a deadly virus to help wipe out most of humanity.
    To these people, the masses are either expendable livestock or annoyingly disobedient vermin messing up their Planet.
    The fact that we are now waking up and so becoming even more annoying will only make them more determined to virtually wipe us all out ASAP. We either go down fighting or go down anyway unless we at some time in the future understand the true nature of our enemy, learn to say "NO", and mean it.

    3. Saying assassination of indira and rajeev were not ideological, they were terrorist / separatist
    4. Give gyan on party history because i cant questions democracy status of usa, lapses of security guys, stupid media whitewashing and how us leaders have given wierd statements on this.

Indira encouraged Bhindranwala type aggression due to Punjab politics that engulfed herself. Rahul used muscle unintelligently in Srilankan Politics to pay with his life. Mahatma wanted Nehru to leave chair and on same evening when he announced his decision Mahatma lost his life which still leaves more questions than answers.

    Good leadership brings people together, not divide each other. India's pro-govt media has labelled students & farmers as being anti-national at the slightest opposition. Good govt doesn't look at their own citizens as their enemy. The first country nazis invaded was their own. Let's not follow authoritarians where everything was friend or foe, black & white, who obsessed about internal traitors.
    Pak became a religious nation, but there is muslim on muslim violence, coz they started fighting about who is real muslim. Why are we following in the steps of pak & trying to be a religious nation with religious radicals? The day there are no muslims, there would be still be all the problems & deep cultural/regional divisions in India; Hindus would fight each other, fighting about a better/higher Hindu.
    It's ironic the govt is using PLMA law to target opponents without evidence, while talking about sins of emergency to divert from your their own sins today. The new criminal law (BNS), suppose to remove colonial past, contains draconian provisions that reinforces a colonial mindset. He is a person who has recited, childishly, old film dialogues in the parliament, while accusing the opposition leader of immature behaviour. The ultimate hypocrisy is that the Govt has prohibited the use of the 'hypocrisy' word in the parliament.

    • @StuphMisc-ex5cj
      @StuphMisc-ex5cj หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the number of grains in the bullet and the length of the barrel. Subsonic rounds in a short barreled rifle (sbr) can be like a shoulder fired handgun, however hp rounds in long barreled configuration can travel a longer ranges. AK mostly are fixed barreled rifles. Actual projectiles (bullets) in AR are shorter and tiny, in AKs it bigger and heavier.

    • @Metalrulz81
      @Metalrulz81 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ameytiwari1247 it's very controversial in the US because it's so popular, that's why democrats want to ban it, AK-47 is a machine gun and AR-15 is a semi automatic rifle, in your big brain how do you justify a semi automatic being more potent than a machine gun?
