      Hi loretta!! They’re the arka trellises from propagationdiariess.com / @propagationdiariess! 🌻

@@unplantparenthood thank you. I will buy some for my hoyas too. I recently have thrips scare for all my plants (over 100) and it took me weeks to try to eradicate them. So tiring and I threw away over 20 plants too. So I totally feel for you.

Girl, you are not dumb for accepting this loss and moving forward with what is salvageable/you feel like putting in effort to rehab. If you crumbled every time something went wrong with plants, this wouldn’t even be a fun hobby anymore.

Definitely! I’ve had some plants that i loved that got thrips and after a few months i’ve had enough. Threw them and took them out of their misery. And mine!

I love scars too. It’s like a cool reminder of things we’ve been through and the amazing way that our body heals us. And your rehab Hoyas will have pretty cool scars too now, haha. They will bounce back better than ever.

love watching your videos!! you always encourage me to do plant chores, and actually have something enjoyable to watch makes the time go by so much faster. thanks for showing the good and the bad!! that’s the way this hobby goes ❤

As a simple gal who’s had mealy bugs for a while now and other pests I just wanna say: thanks lady for not just posting a video that says uSe DiSh sOap 🤯 it’s nice watching your real experience like it’s never fun but I’d 100% do what you did and I would have been in the same boat. You always keep it real!
Also I agree I think stretch marks look SO cool they’re like pretty little waves 🌊

I've tried clove oil with water in a sprayer on cotton swabs, because it numbs insects to death on contact, used on many other bugs and it works.

    • @brandiejones2249
      @brandiejones2249 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Does it hurt the plants at all?

    • @shirleywilhelm1495

      No it doesn't!

Clove oil was used to treat an Olive orchard, it's organic, the one ingredient I could find to purchase. To use on pests for myself.

You are AWESOME!! I've seen on other videos that the hot water treatment has good results but I've never tried it so.... Diluted alcohol works as well.
I'm still very new to hoyas and you are helping me greatly, as I (don't like to use this word but...) HATE most bugs too.
Right now I'm trying Bonide Systemic Granules, Capt. Jack, Castile Peppermint soap+Neeme oil+organic peppermint oil treatments. All will take time to soak into the plant causing distaste for bugs.. Crossing fingers here and will keep you all posted either way.
Thanks for sharing, it truly does help..

My most prized plant, my alocasia baginda, is currently suffering with thrips... I'm really sad but I think I need to accept that it may not make it. I "raised" this plant from when it was just two leaves! So I feel you.

I use Safers End All, got it from Canadian Tire. It works really well but...you have to spray once a week for about 4-5 weeks. It also kills spidermites and it took care of my thrips outbreak (bottle doesn't list thrips) but those suckers died, lol. Just a thought if you wanted to try something different. 😉

I would just get rid of these instead of doing all that work, so much respect to you for actually bothering! I’ve owned one hoya since I started collecting plants, sold it and will never own one again. They’re just not for me and I don’t get the hype. I mean there are a handful that are kinda cool to me, but I’m generally not into them.

I too started to remind myself to not take losses too seriously with plants or worry about them too much. I think once you start having more plants and your first pest outbreak you are so stressed and feel hopeless when plants die. Then you either get more chill and realize its not the end of the world or you stop enjoying the hobby🤷🏻‍♀️🥳😂 I think your attitude in this matter is completely normal🤍 Even though of course this is super sad and annoying…but yeah I think we all made some weird/lazy/not well informed mistakes of different kinds over our plant journeys and we can learn from them🤷🏻‍♀️🤗 I just hope your not too hard on yourself and maybe this will help you really see which hoyas you want to keep and are important to you and which ones arent.

I’ve had good luck with neem oil for mealybugs (on succulents though, not Hoyas, so it might not be the same). You can quickly spray the whole plant down and it coats the bugs and suffocates them basically and doesn’t evaporate like alcohol would, so it sticks around longer and has a chance to kill more of them. maybe worth a shot?
There’s definitely no shame at all in reevaluating and downsizing, it’s a normal and healthy part of being a plant parent. At the end of the day your plants should bring you joy 💚🌿

I’m on Hoya see ya due to those dang mealy bugs. I’ve soaked them, swabbed and sprayed each and every leaf. If they don’t make it, I’m not replacing them. I’m doing bigger leaves only.

I too dislike mealy bugs so much! I don’t want them to be in my home but I have transitioned my Hoyas outside because they like the heat. So I only have 3 Hoya inside at this time. You did a great job rehabbing! Also I do have PCOS too and I opted out of birth control, for the past 3 years. It has its pros and cons but I did lose my boobs they’re not as full as they were when I was on Bc. My cysts do come and go, every month or so I maybe lucky and not get a huge one. Good luck with your Hoyas, I love your collection even though you say you were not a Hoya person 🤭
