    never saw the second tool before 😯. Next time I use masking fluid I'll try the dip pen. Thanks for these tips ☺

    THANK you so MUCH! I would have never thought of using a dip pen for applying masking fluid! I went through my stash of dip pen nibs and found one (I think its meant for calygraphy) who does have a double layered nib (there is a second nib attached on top of the basic nib, almost ever in a diffent metal color so you can easily see the double nip) - mine comes with a rounded, dotty point to the tip (the brands name for thos nibs is "Speedball"). I think this double layer kind of worked like the ruler pen physics for holding and releasing the fluid but with more control. Even larger areas are easy to cover. I tested it against a ruler pen and I realy like the double nip more. Not so much the "normal" nibs and the glass dip pen I tried - they did not work as good either. I will keep the normal nibs/glass nib for applying watercolor details (as you also showed and recommended).
    For cleaning the double nip I first rinsed it (as you recommended) and got rid of the rest by scrubbing with an old toothbrush. Those bristles gets in all the nooks and crannies and the nib is clean with very little effort.

      That’s great! I will have to try the Speedball nibs. I’m glad you found one you like to use.

    I love the wallpaper behind you! What is it called?
    Also great tips on masking fluids - up until now I was too scared to use it. Now I feel more confident to do so! Thank you 😊

      Don’t be scared. It’s really easy. You can do a practice sheet like I did in this video.

    Love this video! It’s so helpful, thanks!
    While I’m new to watercolours, when I bought masking fluid, a ruling pen was the first thing I bought since I didn’t want to ruin my brushes. For some reason, even when I adjust the width of the nib, the ruling pen doesn’t work at all. I’m assuming it’s an issue with the pen that I got. Is there a specific brand of ruling pens that you like or do you know of a way to sharpen or adjust the nibs so it has a better ink flow?
    Thanks!

      Glad it was helpful! I linked to the ruling pen I used in the video description. It’s also possible the masking fluid you are using is too thick so it doesn’t flow out of the pen.

    Can you use regular and sharp tip cotton buds to apply masking fluid?

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I haven’t tried it. The cotton may absorb the masking fluid though. I think it might be fine for making a few small marks, but for more detailed work or extensive masking these other tools would be better and are reusable.

    Is there a way to colour masking fluid? Mine is clear! It seems like its useful to have it be coloured...

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You can purchase it in a blue color, but I’m not sure about coloring it yourself. It might stain your paper.
      I actually prefer using the colourless masking fluid because it’s easier to see the values and what the finished painting will look like. I only use the blue masking fluid for filming now, so it’s easier for you to see.

    Oh I forgot to ask ~ when using an old w/c brush method - does it matter what the brush bristles are made of ie: synthetic, taklon or real fur etc? 🤔🖌️🤨

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I've only used synthetic brushes for masking fluid, but the soap method should protect any type of bristles.
