To be denied insurance for specific medical needs and treatment/trials is beyond appalling, unacceptable and can result in many cancer patients dying. So glad you and your parents persisted in fighting for the later treatments. Keep on living that beautiful life with your little child❤…you are one amazing young woman and so inspiring!

Thank you. It’s disgusting that health insurance companies have power over people’s health. They’re an industry that makes huge profits, raking in money and denying coverage of potentially-life-saving treatments. Outrageous.

What an intelligent woman and with a great attitude to boot. My wife had stage 3b colon cancer 11 years ago. The tumor was at the ileocecal valve and they did a "double barrel shotgun" resection of her ileum and cecum. She did FOLFOX chemo for 6 months but had to stop the oxaliplatin after 4 months due to increasing neuropathy in her extremities. There was no recurrence and the only issues have been a slight change in bowel habits and residual neuropathy in her feet.

Thanks for your very articulate, informative account of your appendix cancer. I'd not heard of cancer in this organ before so I learned a lot-especially interesting was the clinical trial surgery that brought you into remission! How lucky that was and cheers to you, Dr Lambert and your parents for arranging that. Modern medicine's advances are truly life-saving and you are a prime example of that! Your son is adorable and though you were dejected to lose the option for another, he will benefit greatly from having your focus and grateful attitude! May you live a long & happy life being his momma❤️

I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Had surgery, and now on my third round of chemotherapy. Chemo comes with many side effects. But I would rather go through this grueling process for more years. Being told you have cancer is a difficult thing. There are physical and mental challenges. Nobody prepares you for what cancer can do and how much changes come about to your life. However, I am very grateful 🙏 to have all of the medical support. And to family and friends. I wish for you continuous healing and lots of love for you and your son.

Ariel, so glad to hear that you are NED (No Evidence of Disease). You have expressed yourself very well here in this video. The only mistake you made was to say that "if one cancer cell is left after surgery, it can take off and grow a new tumor." The truth is, we all have atypical cells circulating within our bodies, at all times. We count on our immune systems to catch and kill them. If you have a good de-bulking surgery, as you did, you probably do still have some atypical cells remaining, but reduced to a smaller amount that your immune system can handle for you. My brother is a radiation oncologist, and this is what he says.

ARIEL, THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL! I found out I had appendix cancer two weeks ago after having surgery for a ruptured appendix. It is stage 2A so I am just in the research stage of determining how to handle it. Because this is a rare cancer there is not a lot of concrete data. Seems like cancer hospitals want to take out the big guns and shoot with surgery and or chemo. I do have an appointment with an oncologist, but any suggestions on exploring the less traditional route?

I was surprised when the CT result came back with an appendiceal neoplasm. I went misdiagnosed for four years.

I really appreciated your discussion of the how and why the washing out vs the high pressurized aerosoled chemo. I get how you felt badly about not being able to continue nursing your baby.
I think even later at an older stage, it may have had an effect on him. But your mentioning how connected he is with you during conversations with mommy, having it out in the open means a lot. I think the nursing of a baby builds a stronger bond, so I agree that was your main justified regret. But like you said, we can only move forward.
I would appreciate if you could mention any Chinese herbs or teas you use. I also learned something new when you discussed "surface" cancer. It makes sense when I think of years ago when Drs opened up, then closed my grandmother without attempting to remove any of it. (Because surfaces of her organs were so covered.)

As a cancer survivor, I understand your giving /receiving dilemma but honestly people want to give and sometimes making you a blanket or socks etc is the only comfortable way for them to offer you sympathy and love without being a blubbering idiot and making it worse!! I am so sorry about the stage 4, diagnosis. I'm sure you were doing everything ,(that u knew of) right . Problem is we live with toxins in every aspect of our environment ( air, water, soil and food) . Consider going to a functional medicine doc ( to supplement regular oncology) to look for root causes. I personally had high lead levels for no obvious reason- it's just now everywhere in our environment . ( I have breast cancer.)Best of luck to you.

Ariel-is your appendix cancer PMP (PseudomyoxiaPeritonial)? Many don't know that there are two types of appendeceal cancer; PMP and Neuroendocrine (NET). I am a 7-year survivor of NET of the appendix (diagnosed 3/24/17). As I listened to more of your video, I discovered that signet/ring cell is PMP. I am part of both a Facebook group for both PMP and NET. Appendeceal cancer is really quite rare. I pray for your continued recovery....

Wow! Your story is amazing! I had the same cancer in 2008. I never did IV chemo, I tried to get into Dr Sugerbaker without any luck but I did get into Dr Martin Goodman at Tuffs in Boston. He was absolutely amazing!! He performed the HIPEC in June and I ran a marathon in January!!
Unfortunately, like you, I had bowel issues later down the road. I now have an ileostomy but I’m still here!!
Keep the positive energy and good things will happen!

What a lovely video and young woman! You have given us a great deal to think about. Thank you and The Patient Story for this.
Your clarity and narrative gift will help many.
I especially like what you said about seeing your cancer as part of you, not as “the enemy” (I know you didn’t say exactly that). As a breast cancer survivor forty years older than you, I always dislike when people say, “Fk cancer.” I think that cancer is, unfortunately, part of our body - a horrible, destructive part, but a part nonetheless. It’s silly to say “Fk” a part of one’s body. Just do one’s best to excise that part. Cursing a tumor or malignant blood, etc., doesn’t mean anything (though I understand why people do so). Btw, I love the F-word but am not writing it out here out of consideration for those who’d be offended (and YT’s rules).
I wish you good health from now on.

I have Lupus and some other health issues and since stress affects so many conditions i agree that it only makes sense that holding traumas/isdues/emotions in could cause health problems. Thanks again and God bless you

This sharp pain that went away was exactly like my 22 yr old niece had. The ultrasound tech found a 7cm tumour in her liver. She was misdiagnosed with a benign adenoma. It ended up being metastatic angiosarcoma . Tragically we lost her at 23 when it travelled to her lungs. She never received any treatment. Always PUSH for more answers . Is this the same type of cancer that Paul in Perth has?

Cannot believe I am listening to a patient story and my small intestinale tumor (they suspect Neuro endocriene tumor) has grown from 1 cm to 1,6 cm and I have an appointment with the oncologist on the 12th of September 😅. It is an out of the body experience: I was a listener and now a patient I guess 😅? Really benefit a lot from these stories! So so brave; like no choice
