There's a lady on the video with a pinkish tinge to her white dogi. Maybe she made my mistake and washed the red socks with the whites? TBH I'm uncertain if Hakkoryu is Aikido or perhaps another martial art. Members seem to be enjoying graceful, elegant movement.
Several ryuha do this, it is not extremely common, but it is hardly unheard of: Hontai Yoshin Ryu is another example that does this. The idea that all kobudo and koryu do things exactly alike is a huge misconception by a lot of people. There are a lot of schools out there, the variation is actually pretty amazing.
Better go study and practise a live living and vibrant budo from today, from Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu to modern Aikido. A lot of excellent masters across the spectrum, and some real knowledge and skills to be gained.

Of course it is possible. Hakko ryu is not very very popular, so theyd be happy about any new student.
Other schools that also do this are Kukishin Tenshin Hyoho and Yagyu Shingan ryu.

It's really traditional Ju-Jutsu! But the videos cannot showing the Kansetsu-Waza, thecnics: the autentic secret of the Hakko-Ryu and the Daito Ryu. The " Ko -Ryu"

Get this. I tried to contact a local Hakko Ryu school about classes (time and price) and was told that I had contacted them over two years ago? Which I have no recollection. And now they tell me to contact someone else. I guess Hakko Ryu is just for people that have time and money, mostly money?
Nope, not in Japan. But that's all I can think of. The instructor must be wealthy and not dependent on students? Frankly, I couldn't afford to go to japan to study.
It all really depends on where this school is and who the sensei is. I'm learning it and the school is pretty open and people who just go to the school to wait for another class can watch/spectate...
Why do they use their belts out of hakama??

Hakkoryu is dead since 1994 when Segawa Sensei, the teacher called back by Shodai to teach his stupid son Toshio, and I am sure not a single technique has the real feeling anymore. And now the grand son is learning from Tera Zawa Baka who was send away from the Honbu because of to low knowledge of Hakko ryu.
