I LOVE the Drucilla/Spike/Angel moments, they all, especially Juliet Landau, kill it every time.
marketa, the reason the other slayers in training dont do anything is because they dont have the slayer powers, just the training, like being tyhe slayer comes with super strenght, enhanced speed and reflexes, enhanced durability and heal a bit faster. so the others while skilled, are basically just normal martial artists
Most don't even train, most have no idea who they are until activated.

@@Heldemon I think it's like a 80/20 split. Most know or are known, but the world is big and the council only has so many resources. They find as many potential slayers as they can (Still curious how they do that) but some slip past their radar.

One thing about Dru as a vampire, is that she really shouldn't care about her family. So she was probably using their deaths to torture Angel mentally, but it always feels like Dru is still angry about her family. It gives her an added bit of empathy.
My own personal headcanon is that her injuries and resulting illness suppressed the demon a bit, thus allowing her humanity and the part of her that cared about her family to be more at the forefront..
She probably did do it to add some mental torture on Angel. However, a lot of vampires have shown that they care for others. And in Surprise, the Judge said Drusilla and Spike "stink of humanity."
In the show Angel they reveal her past. Very tragic.
Some potential slayers are raised with a watcher in full knowledge and some only get a watcher once they have been activated
Most. Buffy was an exception.
And probably a lot ot them doesn't ever had one at all

I've been waiting for you to react to the Xander/Cordy kiss and you didn't disappoint! And I'd forgotten how cute Oz and Willow's conversation about the animal crackers is. Micky's realisation about the assassin was hilarious. I also echo everyone else re the parody, it might be funny, but you'll get spoiled. Keep up the great work, folks!
It disappointed me a tad only because they were so loud with their lead up noise and reaction that I don’t know if they caught the intended overly dramatic romantic comedy score in the background. That’s a cute little note that I hope they caught because it comes back.
I just wanna point out that Angel having his own show later, doesn't necessarily mean he survives Buffy. It could be a prequel show, dudes been around awhile.
btw are you guys watching the HD remaster? because the remaster messes up the color of scenes like Angel in the cage and basically shows the vampires in broad daylight sometimes, among other things

The watchers have ways to identify potential slayers before they are called, but it is not foul proof. For example, they didn't find Buffy until after she was called. But the potentials they do find, they train. But they don't have the slayer powers yet.
Should we be telling them this stuff? I mean... I know it's lore, but it's lore that doesn't get exposed for a long ass time.

Other slayers can be trained, but they might not get slayer powers until the are called to be slayer. So no telling if they would fight any better than your regular human.

A potential Slayer are found and trained from young age, "IF" their called. A potential Slayer is a regular human, with a few heighten senses. Alot of stuff Buffy should know before she came a Slayer, but was found later.
Thus the beginning of my second favorite Buffyverse couple, Xander and Cordelia, begins. They have a great opposite attract, like Peter Parker and Mary Jane type relationship, and I love it.

I've been laughing at this for a good few mins:
"According to the writer/producer Marti Noxon, Kendra was never intended to have an accent. The addition of the Jamaican accent to the character was a last minute decision, and a dialect coach was brought in; he taught Lawson a dialect supposedly from a very specific, obscure region of Jamaica."
So basically they hired someone who had no clue what they were doing and when questioned about it he said it was just rally obscure so he could get the bag. There's not a soul from jamaica that sounds like Kendra
I love how we JUST had the discussion that Giles is NOT Buffy's 1st Watcher. And Mickey continues with the Giles is slacking. And also, I am pretty sure that Giles DID present her with the Slayer Handbook. It was like the very first thing he did when interacting with Buffy.
That book that had "Vampyr" on the cover if I'm not wrong. Never thought about that btw.

Hey guys.. Having a lot of fun watching these! Just wanted to point out. Only the Slayer that is 'called' (once the previous one dies) gains the super powers etc. The ones in training, if any, would just be human. And not all potential slayers in a generation would be called, obviously. Not all of them are in training or even know about any of this.
Slayers in training dont have any powers, the power is transferred when one dies to the one who is chosen next
I don't think "transfer" is the right word since Buffy still has powers.
From a librarian perspective, Giles should have told Buffy about the handbook and kept it in a place where she would have access to it.
Originally spike was supposed to die this episode... But his character was so well liked that they changed it at the last minute.

if you guys want to react to something thats not the main show theres 2 good options - the movie that serves as a sort of loose non canon prequel, or the unaired pilot that you can find on TH-cam which contains a few wild changes compared to the real show.

@@cchase1282 It comes from a former court correspondent's biography of her. Though I did make a small mistake in my original comment - it was the nickname of Elizabeth II's mother, Elizabeth Bowles-Lyon, not Elizabeth II herself. My bad. They have the same name, easy mistake to make.
Yeah, I found that out too. Didn’t know the connection to royalty though. I found it in a list of what seemed like a hundred variants of Elisabeth.
On this show Buffy is not short for Elizabeth, even though that is true in real life.

Love how so much of the Buffy language has been adopted to todays slang. Most sounds totally normal now, but back then it was all new
The simmering sexual tension of Dru & Angel is pretty hot for PG TV. I had forgotten the ritual that made Dru strong again. The fact she was in a weakened state for half the season was a great choice and allowed the actress to show a softer side to Dru. Now she has her strength we will see her in her prime.
The dialogue in this episode is hilarious. No other fantasy show had this many one-liners and zingers. The assassin disguised as a cop was a nice twist. You could not make a show nowadays with someone opening fire in a highs school. Its one thing for weird shit to happen after hours on school grounds, but cops shooting at students in broad daylight ?! Explain that, Principal Snyder !

This two parter is amazing. Specially 2x10. And the rest of the season is just as good (with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 episodes).

It's interesting to note that Dru wants revenge for her mortal family.
Also, what happens if the Watchers say to a parent "we have to train your child to be a slayer" and the parents refuse to hand over the kid?
They just do it in secret, like they did with Buffy. Secrecy is big with the Council, and I think it's the default. They really only discuss Slayer or Watcher related things with people who are already 'in the know', as Kendra's parents (and "their people") were; they already knew what a Slayer was.
A guy called Merik was Buffy’s first watcher in L.A.
The Watchers have some idea who is likely to be called but they aren't 100%. Buffy was an outlier and became the slayer before the Watchers found her. Buffy's original watcher died in LA shortly before Buffy burned down the school gym because it was full of vampires. (From the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, which is mostly canon to the show)
Also, the first thing Giles did to Buffy is drop the handbook in front of her and she immediately walked away from it. It's the big book with the title "VAMPYR" you see in the credits.
It's not the official Slayer handbook. It's more like the encyclopedia on vampires.

Mark 4:56. Serendipity! I saw a few episodes of, "Becker", earlier today, or late last night, on "Ant-TV". One episode had, Leonard Nimoy, as a, Harvard University, professor that couldn't remember that, Doctor Becker, was one of his students.
Seeing that episode had me thinking about how many people have appeared in both, "Becker", and any "Star Trek", series. However, while as far as I know, only one actor as done both, "Becker" and the, "Buffyverse", I can't help but wonder how well, Shawnee Smith's cheerleader character from the remake of, "The Blob", would get along with, Buffy & the Scoobies. 🤔. Oh! Or her character from the original version of, "The Stand". 🤔
Don't worry your questions about who becomes a slayer and why will all be answered about half way through season 7 the final season.

I don't know if they ever published a handbook like that, but somebody did publish, Buffy's Senior Year High School Yearbook, as a book, including the local advertising and realistic autographs like those made by students. Having it, lets you know who the background students and faculty are, that we sometimes see the main clique interact with, just in passing. 🤓😎🤠🧐

Buffy's original watcher, Donald Sutherland, got killed in L.A. by the vampire, Rutger Hauer (or maybe it was Paul Reubens. I forget).
No that is the movie (which Joss walked away from during production) ;), the show is not a continuation of the movie but a soft continuation of the original movie script (which was never filmed).

So Kendra’s identity as a potential was determined young probably with magic, and she was raised by her watcher to ensure if she were the next one to rise she would be prepared

Please someone tell me that this isn't the origin of the wrist steaks that Angel uses.
At some point, as a viewer, you just have to let go of some of the details that you guys are questioning. lol While we do learn more over the seasons, there's still a lot of small details that we never find out about the whole Slayer situation. But if you're patient, you'll get some answers. Edit: For now, I think it's safe to assume that every Slayer's situation (throughout time) is probably at least a little different.

Buffy is one of my favourite shows and just so you know it's kind of like a soft reboot for the 1992 movie. It's mostly non Canon... Buffy becomes a slayer we see her original watcher but you'll see if you watch it that it's kinda campy and doesn't have to same feeling at all to the show... I can't wait to see more reactions from you guys!! 😁
There’s different types that like one over the other or both. The series is my favorite and I’m luke warm on the movie. It has its moments though. I’ve heard some people actually like the movie more.
Joss’s vision for the movie (and the series) is like Scream but the movie’s director turned it into Scary Movie. Fortunately it was good enough to get the series green lit.

Yeah, oddly enough, the novels is nothing like the show beyond season 2. The show is just way over the top soft porn. Jim Butcher said he got a bit jealous of Charlaine Harris, because she got HBO and he got sci-fi for something that didn't resemble Dresden File. But Charlaine Harris didn't get adaptation close to hers either.

In the series, Buffy is the character's legal given name. However, in the real world, Buffy is a very uncommon diminutive of Elizabeth, most likely from a small child's mispronunciation "Ewizabuff." So, theoretically, her full name should be Elizabeth [Spoiler] Summers.
Being a "man of culture", I know what that first clip is from. ;)
The episode is "What's My Line?" not "That's My Line."
