Does Etsy collect the shipping money from the customer and then when we as the Etsy seller buy the label do they make it look like we are buying it on our end but it really comes from customer?
The customer pays the shipping cost you set per item, and that money goes to your Etsy account, then you buy the label from Etsy. So yes it does come from the customer if you charge the right amount for shipping.

You can start a business as a minor as long as a parent is helping you! I’m 14 and I have my own press on nail business and it’s going good!!

@@valeriaprado4396 they helped me set up my Etsy shop just to get started, I opened up my own bank account but my dad used is ssn and card numbers and what not but besides that I run my business and I handle everything on my own,...untill I blow up and become popular and stuff I will then ask my guardian or parent to help me with getting a sellers permit to sell and stuff:)

So when I am posting a listing do I weigh the item on its own or in the packaging? And do I have to put extra things (like business card) into the bubble mailer when I am weighing it?
When you weigh your product add packing or anything your putting into the package !

Yes, you do, Addy. There is always a shipping cost, unless, however, you add the cost of shipping into the price of what you are selling, and can get away with that as long as that does not make what you are selling look too expensive. There are Pros and Cons of using other ways to ship your product to the customer. ETSY of course, USPS, Pirate Ship and so on. Trust me when I say, you can find all this information here on TH-cam. Most important, on any platform you use to sell, make sure to understand and follow the "House Rules."

Are you shipping standard? We have had issues in the past shipping usps and not having the exact weight so our new shop we have used flat rate but it’s high.
Yes, I'm shipping standard. I use an inexpensive scale (I use a food scale that I found in store for less than $10, but my items are light and the scale only measures up to about 13 oz). If you can find an inexpensive scale it will save you shipping cost over time if your packages are relatively light!

Yes I do! Recently for safety / health reasons I drop them in a post drop box or I drop them inside the package drop boxes inside the post office, so that I can avoid waiting in line. They usually have a specific drop box or bin inside the post office for dropping off prepaid packages!
I don’t understand why my shipping is $20 for a $6 dollar light item when other people have $1.61 for the same size item?

How do you weight your items? Do you have a scale? Sorry if this is a silly question. Also what are some absolutely must haves when starting a business? I don’t own a laptop or printer should I invest in that? Thank you.
Those would be a good idea to have in case you get orders when you're not at home. You can just see it on the laptop. It's less bulky as well. Also, a printer is VERY important for your business! You should definitely invest in a cheap one for now.
I use an inexpensive scale! I found one for less than $10 in store. There are similar options available online. I use a food scale as it was cheaper than shipping scales, and my items are light. I would say it is essential to have a device like a laptop, but you may be able to use a cell phone or an iPad/tablet if you can connect it to a printer. You need a printer to print out things at home, so I would save to invest in one if possible. I used my roommate's printer or my parent's printer for awhile but purchased my own over time!
@@azraelcantrell9163 Great advice! I use my laptop for everything and invested in a printer about a year into my business. I was able to borrow my roommate's printer before then when I was not shipping as many orders.

Yes! I use a regular printer to print shipping labels.

Hi! Love this video!! I am trying to ship stickers, but I don't know how to ship them with tracking. Do you think that a 4x8 bubble mailer will count as a package that gets tracking?
Yes! Bubble mailers can be tracked. I use these for my smaller products. Almost any envelope thicker than a paper envelope counts as a package that includes tracking!
I'm really wanted to sell on etsy but the thing that confuses me most is do I just place a design and etsy just makes it into what I want it to?? I can't find any answers and I'm so confused. I really want to put my design on a sweater and sell it
Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm just really confused because I didn't know I would have anything physical at my house?
Etsy is for selling products you make, so if you wanted to sell a tee shirt you designed, you'd have to either put the design on a shirt you bought or pay a company to do it

Thank you soooo much for how detailed this video is! 1 question I see you put in 1in thickness on the poly mailer. How much can you actually stuff in the ? Can they bulge? I heard people will put things in say a shoebox inside...do you then have to put in a measurement for the thickest part of the p.mailer? I started a store but know absolutely ZERO about shipping beyond sticking a stamp on my electric bill and dropping it in the box...anyone?

How do you get the size of the packages? like the width, height and length? for an example the envelope Im using is 4x8 also do you weight the product before you ship or only after? When you drop off the packages at the post office is there a box you put them in or you give it to the clerk?
I measure the envelopes or boxes I am using to ship with a ruler, and I weigh them with the item inside the envelope, before I purchase the label. Recently, for health / safety reasons and to avoid waiting in line, I drop my prepaid packages into the drop boxes or the box inside the post office designated for prepaid packages.
@@KristenShane I’m on the screen where I’m listing my item and it’s asking for shipping preference. Do I weight the item by itself then the second part with the dimensions I just measure the the packaging? I’m not sure what to put for the third number???? 4x6X? I only have a padded envelope so I only have length and width
It’s asking for height! So for a padded envelope the height may be 0.5 inch but you should measure the height of the package with the item inside, if what you are shipping makes the envelope thicker than 0.5 inch. Hope that helps!

It may depend on your area and your particular post-worker. If it’s more than 1-2 small packages I would recommend dropping them off at a drop box or post office!
Can I accept orders without using Etsy to print the labels??
Yes, you can. But if you do, then I would recommend manually entering the customer's tracking number to their order. You also may be paying more for shipping elsewhere, as Etsy gives you the discounted business rate for shipping (so the same labels would be more expensive if you bought them at the post office).

so since it's prepaid we just drop it over at the box outside the post office or do we have to take it to the desk and let them scan it? Also can I use any scale like a food scale or does it have to be a specific one ? This was rlly helpful btw
You can drop it in the box! Which is convenient for avoiding the lines at the post office. You can use any scale that measures in ounces or pounds! Glad you enjoyed it :)
If you use a company like USPS, you can actually schedule a pick up from them. I usually have them come to my house and pick up from the front porch!
hi! how much does it cost to send a rigid mailer? i know for a letter, it cost 0.55c.
Can I skip this and just pay shipping and get label from my own postal operator (where I already know how to do)? What happens then? The info about it will go to the buyer, but not to Etsy, so Etsy will not know that it has been shipped (so Etsy might believe I did not send it?) How would I give this shipping info to Etsy ?

Shipping for small, lightweight packages costs me about $2.75 - $3.50 per package. Yes, I drive to the post office to drop them off!
