Everyone who is considering a freelance career should watch this clip. You’ve done an exceptional job of giving people key insights about the pitfalls and benefits of being self employed. Great stuff. Thank you!
Thanks so much Molly! I know this video won't be a viral success but I hope there's a few folks out there who really find the discussion valuable. Appreciate your kind words today :)
Nice sharing of experience from a guy who's got it under his belt and who's got the bottle. Thanks, Ewen, for all the inspiration you bring here on YT and through your photographic sharing.
Excellent insight Ewen, I also came to photography as a career in my 30s, I wanted to be an artist, it didn't take long to realize that wasn't going to be a sustainable path for me so I went into journalism and became a staff photographer for newspapers to pay the bills, fortunately I was pretty good at photojournalism, spent 25 years getting paid to document the world around me, no a bad gig. Now I want to be an artist again Lol
I think the artist within us never dies, but does feel a little crushed after all those years of neglect! Hope you find lots more joy on the creative side :)
Gone for years never feeling the need to comment on TH-cam. Just made an account to say great video! I think I might link this to any potential clients to watch before taking them on. Well said!
I always find your videos insightful. I met you and Shellie at a food photography class you hosted. I raved about this class to my friends and family because I enjoyed the photography so much. That session revitalised my photography, showing me that I can (with work) make photos that are different to what I had been doing. Thank you.
@@EwenBell It was the Tamron event. I was shooting with a G9 with a 25 mm 1.7 lens. Since then I have bought the Panasonic Leica 1.4, and love it. The photo that was printed that day now hangs in our kitchen. It does get many favourable comments. Thank you for the videos. John
Such a great amount of wisdom to impart on those looking to enter the world of photography as a career. The only thing I think I would add is it requires a certain degree of crazy. At least for me anyway hahaha
Yeah there are better ways to make a dollar that's for sure! But sometimes we just gotta follow our dreams and see where they take us. I appreciate your thoughts Zak :)

Loved this one Ewen - so much great advice as usual (and even an unexpected a glimpse of myself in there haha).
:) Yeah it's quite a journey being self-employed these days, as you well know. Thanks for being a part of our journeys too.

That's wonderful! We're you at the Tamron event or the Ballarat Bienale? Thanks for sharing your joy for photography today :)
