@@Odthean Yeah, and Ronald Bruner Jr. is the epitome of trying to make music a toxic competition. There’s a reason so many musicians who’ve worked with him call him “Song Ruiner Jr.” Nobody was saying don’t strive to be the best musician you can be, but Ronald Bruner Jr. only cares about being the fastest person on stage, even when his chops ruin the song.
Huh??? Some of these wannabe drummer critics in here are hilarious. Do you think Mr.larnell Lewis can't do the same exact thing or simular solo like that? These are world-class drummers. The comparison, competition thing is stupid. Everyone on that level has a style and something unique that makes being a musician inspirational and cool. On this level of skill sets, there is no competition, just respect.
No Larnell cannot do what Ronald Bruner is doing. There are maybe on one hand who can do what Ronald Bruner is doing. Larnell is more for the non musicians and Ronald Bruner is for the musicians who understand elite level of art. Not saying Larnell style isn’t for elites but FARR more people can do what Larnell is doing vs Ronald.
@@johnsimon5523all day! For real they re not in the same league. It’s interesting that there are a seldom few on here that can hear the difference as opposed to many who can’t. Sad reality for music!
I guess theyre both world class. The competition thing is a bit silly really. Its like the Gadd , Weckle, Colauita, Chambers thing 30 yrs back. These top guys all respect eachother. Listen what they say about eachothers playing. They're in awe.
As someone who has recorded some of the best drummers in the World and have had the pleasure of having Bruner at my studio I will tell you this. Bruner can play with snarky puppy. But the truth is Bruner has literally played with all of the best. The best know he’s the best. He’s the most versatile drummer I have seen. He’s just not doing the videos like Lewis but everyone know he’s the man.
"Everyone knows he's the man..." Says no other pro drummer on this level, because they don't refer to each other in that way. Every drummer at this level knows that they each bring something different and that comparing them is silly.
There’s no doubt that Larnell is great but Ron is just in a league of his own. Everyone saying how “chaotic” or “adhd” his playing is are simply not there yet musically, and that’s okay. You either get it or don’t. Definitely not a competition but let’s be honest, if you’re shedding, playing gigs, etc, there will always be a level of competition even if it’s friendly competition.
yeah except you put the best musicians in the world in a room and ask them to choose who they want on their song and its going to be larnell every single time. So what really matters
@@1soar818 if I had my choice of any drummer it would probably be a mix up between Danny Cary, larnell, and el estepario siberiano. All three would be fire
Its really no competition: Bruner His prestige is next level. Like Buddy Rich once in a lifetime type feel. Thats why Prince and Stanley Clark set their hooks in him. If Prince wrote you checks, you're an annointed musician. Like mono neon I'd venture to say that Lewis would be easier to work with and capable of scaling the same gigs, but they're not of the same caliber on the kit..
I know Ronald Bruner Jr. is the superior player, but I prefer Larnell’s solos. This might be one of the few RB solos that I wasn’t annoyed with tho. Not everything has to be a freakin speed competition all the time.
Larnell. It's a tale of musicality, control and phrasing verses chops and muscle memory. A lot of drummers unfortunately stop there. I get it. It's certainly impressive, can be very exciting and you can get by in a gig with the vast majority of players/bands. Unfortunately, your improvisations will be more in the style of an exercise or a "flex." Like a weight lifter throwing up a big, impressive stack of plates before dumping them on the floor in a loud "crash!" Whereas at the _next_ level, your improvisations become mindful and _conversational._ Serving the piece of music above all else while still remaining technically savvy and imposing. Less like the aforementioned weight lifter, going through their eye-popping yet rote series of defined, repeated exercises in the confines of a gym - and more like an elite athlete, deftly navigating the twists, turns and options of an obstacle course. Now, I know most musicians, rightfully so, are extremely supportive of one another so I could absolutely envision Mr. Lewis dismissing this comparison and pointing to some of the finer nuances of Bruner Jr.'s playing which I'd surely appreciate. Regardless, I honestly feel that when you step outside of it, the point made in the comparison remains. It's an issue I see quite a lot among top drummers and guitarists as well. I think a fair deal of this can be attributed to the social media, Instagram, TH-cam Shorts, TikTok, short video format and "viral" trends. With players looking to fit as much flash and flex into a 30-60 second video clip to attract viewers and play to their ever shortening attention spans for the views, likes, follows and the associated sponsorship revenue. Which un/fortunately(?) have become one of the primary revenue streams for musicians. Which _in my opinion_ (I'm sure others will disagree) - although there are some wildly original artists and musicians - has only further lessened the amount of quality, exciting original music and musicians who really serve the song. Due in no.snall partvto these factors, technical proficiency is at an all time high but again - _in my opinion_ - the ability to craft a cohesive, *through composed* and timeless piece of music is at an all time low. Technical proficiency should be a means to an end, not the end itself.
For real, even the context limit their ability. This vamp section in what about me by snarky puppy is based around multiple groups of 5 sixteenth notes, making soloing even harder for larnell, but he kills it. Ron’s seems to be an open solo/break and he has a ton more freedom to play around with ideas. They are both excellent and inspiring. I will enjoy larnell a lot more because he got me really hooked into implementing more ideas on to the set than any other drummer. No disrespect to Ron, he’s up there
Ah. Seriously? Brunner plays the drums like a drunk teenager with ADHD. I’m sure he’s a nightmare to work with. Lewis is 10 times the drummer, I’ve done the calculations.
Larnell is my cup of tea.
Larnell's musicality is so good. I can listen to him over and over again and won't get bored.
I feel like Larnell's solo had better phrasing and was more musical, but it's really not a competition.
His sense of timing also rock solid

Absolutely! They're both 10s, it's just a matter of personal preference.
Larnell is an amateur who bashes the drums with very little musicality. Ronald is a genius level musician who can swing like no tomorrow!

Larnell, the second guy was just chaos
Or you don’t understand it😊
Creativity is my cup of tea. Larnell wins easily
It really
Does not matter. What is important is using the drum set integrated into a band performance.
I think Larnell is more liked by fellow musicians. Ronald has a track record of irritating arrogant, disrespectful behavior.

Larnell has more musical phrasing.
Not close. Larnell 🏆
