No, unfortunately! You could separate out the 4 solid squares/quadrants as layers and copy the layers over, but you'll still have to set saved selections in the new canvas. Maybe something they'll add in a future update though!

This was so helpful, I'm so so grateful! Thank you so much for sharing! Do you happen to have a video on how to make a patterned phone wallpaper? Since those aren't square, would there be a different method?
Hi Alexa! This method should work the same for phone wallpaper - even if it's not square, the steps will work the same :) Just make sure the pixel dimensions of the canvas are an even number, since you're dividing it in half.
Absolutely great, love this way to try my patterns. I also had to pause often to set the document as a template for patternmaking. But it's worth it ! Gorgeous, thank you for sharing !

I’ve watched so many tutorials on how to make a seamless pattern in procreate 5, this is a different and interesting way then all the others and I can’t wait to try it! I really need some help though please! I can’t figure out what’s going wrong but the steps where your dragging the pattern to scale it down to each corner using transform, for some reason Procreate almost always changes the size of my canvas, creating a seam at some point in my pattern even though it looks like it’s snapping right into place no problem. I have magnetics, snapping and uniform all selected. Do you just use magnetics or do you use snapping too? For me just using magnetics doesn’t make it snap in place. It’s also weird but mine always says snapping where yours says magnetics in the bottom menu even though we both have procreate 5, why?? And what about Distance and Velocity? I only get the helpful yellow lines with Velocity turned up and it only seems to snap into place with Distance turned up. None of the tutorials I’ve watched have mentioned these. It took me awhile to figure out what was happening but say you’re using a 3000x3000 canvas, you then want each of the 4 squares to be 1500x1500 for there to be no seams in your pattern right? But so often Procreate snaps mine into place at 1499x1499 or even more annoyingly 1500x1499 even though it’s still showing the yellow lines that it’s in the right place so I have to constantly check to make sure it hasn’t changed the canvas on me in order to not get seams and it took me several tries before I was finally successful in getting no seams, but you make it look so easy!! What am I doing wrong?? Someone please help!! Sorry my question is so long and complicated, I had no idea how to explain all this, lol, hope it makes sense! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for sharing. This looks very straightforward but I'm confused about something: if you're flipping the design both horizontally and vertically won't the elements be upside down? It's not apparent with a design like crosses. Am I misunderstanding something? Thank you
Excellent question - and yes, it does turn upside down! You can see in the longer version here (the link is timed to play at the spot where it turns upside down) : th-cam.com/video/psWysOKk9Ik/w-d-xo.html You will just need to pinch to zoom out and rotate the entire canvas :)
Thank you! This was super helpful and easy to follow 💖 I do have 1 question though, say I want to make a pattern for a background. I just make the canvas the size I want and repeat these same steps or does it have to specifically be a square? 🤔
It can be a rectangle! The steps will work the same :) Just make sure the pixel dimensions of the canvas are an even number, since you're dividing it in half.
This is great for a seamless repeat, but where does the "tossed" aspect come in? I was waiting for a method to rotate the motifs in a lovely random and tossed fashion...
For that, you might have better luck with a half-drop repeat! It staggers the repeat half a step down, which can make it look more random and tossed. I have a video on how to do that in Procreate here: th-cam.com/video/PXmzY06Dkac/w-d-xo.html But you might also prefer my friend Abbie's method for patterns in Procreate, where you can better visualize the overall placement of elements as you build it. She showed in this video -th-cam.com/users/liveeJgz4_OiH44 - it's a livestream, but I've timestamped the parts where she explains the method, and then where she demonstrates as well. Let me know if this helps!!
I was following along until “select the group.” Procreate apparently won’t allow this and tells me I have to pick a single layer. I tried to continue by doing that, but it didn’t work. Any ideas?
Hey there! There are a couple things you can try: - Tap the selection tool while on a single layer, and turn it to Freehand - While in the selection tool, deactivate Color Fill (the little paint bucket) Let me know if this works!
Thanks for making this, for some reason I still have very fine seams. The only difference in this video is that on my Procreate there is no magnetics button under Uniform only 'Snapping'. Is there something I can do to get rid of the fine seams?
Thanks so much for this! I'm a bit of a newbie and I especially appreciate it as I find a downside of my autism is that I struggle to find instructional material that I can follow succinctly. New sub from me and I'll check out your other vids!
Hey Rob, that is so awesome to hear! I can’t tell you how much your comment means to me! I’m always trying to improve my videos and the clarity of the them - so you’ll probably find that my newer videos are more clear than the older ones - just a heads up ☺️. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, and for subscribing! Happy painting!
I can't seem to select both the selection and transform too at the same time. Also my loaded selection when I choose it from save and load shows up as a coloured square. Can anyone help?
I can’t seem to use the selection when I collapsed the group. I have watched your video and tried it so many times but it just won’t let me select the group. It is asking me to open layers. What am I doing wrong?
Found answer by looking through every comments. To fix problem, select a layer in the group, now tap on the selection tool. Here, tap on “freehand” and deselect “color filled”.Now you can select the group layer and use the selection tool! Yay!
Hi thank you so much for this Tutorial :) but After the Last Step there are minimal „shifts“ between die layers, not completely seamless. What Can i do to solve this Problem?
Hi Resi, sorry you're getting some seams! You might have to re-set your selections to be more precise; one of them may have gotten nudged out of place by a pixel or something. When transforming the selections in any step, it's important not to let a finger or the pencil touch the screen inadvertently because Procreate will register that as you wanting to move the object wherever you touch/tap. Best of luck!!
It won't let me use the selection tool on the group it keeps saying layers aren't open even though they are. I followed all the directions correctly I think
I think there was a new update on procreate this week and I can’t figure it out. PLEASE HELP. The snap to 50% is completely gone. Someone help me please

Thank you so much!!
super helpful! Thank you so much for this video
So glad it was helpful Elvina! 🥰 So happy to hear :) If you post your patterns on Instagram, do tag me; I'd love to see!!
You can see in the longer version here (the link is timed to play at the spot where it turns upside down) : th-cam.com/video/psWysOKk9Ik/w-d-xo.html
You will just need to pinch to zoom out and rotate the entire canvas :)
I have a video on how to do that in Procreate here: th-cam.com/video/PXmzY06Dkac/w-d-xo.html
But you might also prefer my friend Abbie's method for patterns in Procreate, where you can better visualize the overall placement of elements as you build it. She showed in this video -th-cam.com/users/liveeJgz4_OiH44 - it's a livestream, but I've timestamped the parts where she explains the method, and then where she demonstrates as well.
Let me know if this helps!!
Heyoo. I am having trouble keeping my collapsed group selected and add select. It wants me to open layers
Thankyou so much for this!
Oh my! I’m so confused. Not your fault. I think I’m gonna have to watch this ten times before my mind can grasp it. Thank you so much for sharing.
I was following along until “select the group.” Procreate apparently won’t allow this and tells me I have to pick a single layer. I tried to continue by doing that, but it didn’t work. Any ideas?
Hey there! There are a couple things you can try:
- Tap the selection tool while on a single layer, and turn it to Freehand
- While in the selection tool, deactivate Color Fill (the little paint bucket)
Let me know if this works!
@@WoolyPronto it did, thank you :)
This is a great tutorial, thank you.
Thanks Carol, seriously appreciate the kind words!
How do you use that scaling tool?? When I did it it was always off by some cm. It doesn’t tell me how much im scaling down to
Thanks for making this, for some reason I still have very fine seams. The only difference in this video is that on my Procreate there is no magnetics button under Uniform only 'Snapping'. Is there something I can do to get rid of the fine seams?
yesssssss! finally one that makes sense! 😊
YAY!! so glad it's helpful Lindsay!! Hope it streamlines your workflow!!
@@WoolyPronto You're entirely welcome!
I can't seem to select both the selection and transform too at the same time. Also my loaded selection when I choose it from save and load shows up as a coloured square. Can anyone help?
This is brilliant, thank you!
Thanks Tess 🥰 Happy to hear you found it helpful :)
This looks great! can't wait to try it out :-)
My program will not let me save and load
Question: how do you export it to use in textile design?
Amazingly simple! Thanks for sharing this.
Yay!
@@ngocn8663 thank you i love you for this
I’m so glad I found your comment!
@@ellatattersall7291 You are welcome. Glad to help.

Thank you! This was really helpful :)
So happy it's helpful for you!! Thanks for watching! 🥰
I sort of figured it out the only thing is that the pattern doesn't fully line up I have to keep readjusting
I'm having the same problem!
I been doing this wrong for so long, lol thank you girl!
Great job with this one 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you Affu 🥰 So glad it was helpful :)
I think there was a new update on procreate this week and I can’t figure it out. PLEASE HELP. The snap to 50% is completely gone. Someone help me please
Nicole Ellie Sorry I didn’t respond sooner! I just posted an update on this with all the settings you will need: m.th-cam.com/video/n9Qalb19IUA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for this tutorial - of all the seamless pattern tutorials I've watched, this is definitely the most concise and the method helps speed up the workflow so much. (edit: wording)
Thank you for your kind words, Dana! So glad to know this method is helpful for you! 🥰
I keep getting gaps in my pattern using this method. What am I doing wrong?
How do you get your procreate to read you the 50% thing? google is NO help. mine snaps on the orange line but I don't want any mishaps
