I will never get tired of videos gushing about The Lies of Locke Lamora. It's one of my favorite books of all time and Red Seas was just as good if not better! Lynch is such a clever writer and I find something new and brilliant to love about it with each re-read.
Great timing! Finished the first book a few weeks ago. I agree with Grace - Jean’s face off against the sisters and his line introducing the Wicked Sisters was epic and such a great moment for him
I made the mistake last semester of doing a report on Red Seas Under Red Skies and had to explain all 700 pages into one page. It was impossible to show how layered these books are
I still remember reading about the death of the twins, and just repeating to myself over and over again '' they are not dead, they surely are not dead, they CAN NOT be dead, please!'' It was rough, and I would not have minded an Oda stlye resurection of them :')
Really I think Scott killed Bug and the twins too early on, we still get flashbacks of course, but I’m a sucker for the found family dynamic so the gentleman bastards being whittled down to two so quickly really hurt my enjoyment of the series.
The more Sci Fi and Horror I read, the more I think I need to be better read in the genre. I found Phillip K Dick this year and am obsessed! This spooky season I'm going to read The Terror and Summers of Night both by Dan Simmons. Super excited! They will be my first Dan Simmons and I'll probably try Hyperion in December if I like these two.
This is a series that I LOVE but honestly forget exists and every time I am reminded of it I kick myself. Lies of Locke Lamora is such an amazing book, I honestly need to re-read it (or as I have been consuming books lately: listen to it) but I just remember coming away from it thinking it was honestly a perfectly set up world.
I have just finished rereading Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Seas Under Red Skies and am currently rereading The Republic of Thieves. I love all three but my favorite is Lies of Locke Lamora. I am impatiently waiting for the fourth book.
The complaints about the flashbacks made me cautious about reading this but I loved it! Some of the flashbacks even had some of my favorite scenes! The introduction to Jean and seeing him and Locke become like brothers was perfect. Solidified both as some of favorite fantasy characters. Can’t wait to start Red Seas Under Red Skies
Weird connection but the flashbacks Gentleman Bastard books reminds me of the TTRPG/worldbuilding exercise Microscope. In that the actual first thing you do is say like "this is how this [world/civilization/etc.] begins and ends", you KNOW it's going to end... but then you can always add stuff in the middle. Characters die and you get the FULL IMPACT of that, but that doesn't necessarily mean you've seen the last of them yet so to speak.
I don't understand how people can complain about the pacing in this series. I'm almost done with a reread and my only complaint is that I need more pages
I’ve only read this once but will definitely be doing a re-read sometime soon. I really enjoyed hearing everyone gushing over my favorite parts. When I was reading it, after the death of Nasca, I was convinced that it would be revealed that she was the Grey King and the body was glamoured or something. 😂
It does kind of suck that we lose so many characters so early on in the series, I felt kind of short changed myself because I was expecting the books to be less episodic and more of the gentleman bastards to survive.
German here. I could never read this book because I didn't get over the silly name of the protagonist. Locke in German is curl of hair in English. And, the words gender is female on top of it. Die Locke - the curl of hair. In Germany a guy called Locke is just a deal breaker. Sorry. If you name a protagonist, see that the name doesn't have an unsuitable, silly or possibly even vulgar meaning in a language of a country where your novel is likely going to be read. You want to read a great fantasy novel, read The Curse of Chalion and The Paladin of Souls.
@@mercan9834 Nope. But the book has readers all over Europe. Imagine a European author calls the main character Nipple Lamora. How would that work for US readers?
@@petrairene I think it's really normal for the author not to check multiple languages to see if the names he chose can be interpreted differently or not. He's writing in English and choosing names in English. There are too many countries and too many languages and keeping track of all that is not required in my opinion.
Thank you so much for having me on and I loved talking about this book! Look forward to Red Seas Under Red Skies!

"effing" at that!! who saw that coming!?

My favourite series ever! Love any new video on this series!

I’m gonna have to settle in and get comfy for watching this.
Loved this series, and I am overdue for a re-read- very tempted to buy the new Emporium exclusive edition from Gollancz

I liked this series a lot. I'm gonna have to go read it again now.
This is probably my favorite book of this year. I had so much fun with it.
Whoo hoo. I read this because of Merphy! Loved it. I’ve not read two or three because i don’t want to be done with the series. ❤❤❤

Yeah, Lamora! Finally a video! 👀 Special signed edition ordered.
@@britneynicolewrites Daniel’s fantasy news showed up. 750 numbered copies not to USA. Gollancz
@@britneynicolewrites it’s actually very cheap. 75 pounds. So if you find a copy and you can manage, you are lucky.

Happy to see a video on Wednesday...
Merphy would make a great thief ;)
Would make? Pretty sure I saw her picture with a note saying, “Oceans 1” behind the counter in a Barnes & Noble just outside Reno Nevada.

I love this series and IMO is the best of the series so far

I'm still holding off reading the 3rd book. For some reasons I don't want to be caught up when there is no release date in sight for book 4.

To be fair Locke is not his REAL name
I mean, Locke is not a German, so…
