This does Barnsley and its people proud. It will give it the reputation it deserves. Proud to be a South Yorkshire lass with Barnsley roots. Let's have it sung every Christmas Eve from now onwards.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank-you for bringing this wonderfully hopeful carol to a wider audience. Let's hope that others will follow your great example!
What a beautiful new carol! It felt euphoric, really special listening to its first outing on national radio (BH BBC Radio 4). The melody and harmonisation strikingly reminds me of some compositions in my native homeland, Ghana. This carol will stay in my heart forever! Well done for drawing our attention to this special composition. I love it! #bbcradio4
Great performance and wonderful to hear live on BBC Radio 4 too. Very much enjoyed learning about this history of the Carol in my hometown of Barnsley too!
I heard this on BH (Radio 4) this morning, and long before that final glorious chord I could feel the tears welling up. What a beautiful carol, a wonderful arrangement and a superb performance ! 💕
Fantastic. Really well sung, this rendition will remain in my mind no matter how many times it's sung by different choirs. Good to sense the Barnsley spirit through the music.
Heard on Radio 4 this morning - a lovely carol for Christmas eve, beautifully sung by the Barnsley Youth Choir. Well done to the late composer, to those who rediscovered the carol and the singers.
A wonderfully moving carol - almost made me me cry. So tender and beautiful. Did he write anything else? Is there a photo of him? It made my Christmas. Thanks also to the wonderful Paddy O'Connell on BH for featuring it.
May I add to this by saying Arthur Godfrey is my grandfather and I have photos. I have informed Barnsley museum saying that he wrote stories and poetry
