      @Lazy Bundy spending 20 grand to summit a mountain? Ha! The money already is wasted. What do you get by submitting everest? You get nothing, except bragging rights and that's it. You don't even get bragging rights if you include the part where you let someone die so you can summit it.
      But if you save someone's life, you actually make a difference, instead of achieving an arbitrary goal. Don't get me wrong. I like to hike, and I like to summit mountains, but I ain't going against my values just to get to the top of a glorified hill. I have higher priorities

You end up with more and more chances of random people that shouldnt be there getting stranded (inexperienced, under-prepared, cheap equip). Some of you can only afford that trip once, and trying to save a random can also mean your own death (carrying yourself is already hard enough).

    There’s actually quite the big difference between „abandoning someone“ and leaving somebody who is „beyond saving“. You can’t just backpack another person and bring them down - that’s not how it works on 8000m altitude. That high, even thinking is incredibly hard, let alone carrying someone. Sure, you can provide water and oxygen, but at the end of the day, everyone has to get down by themselves. If you don’t know your body, these mountains are incredibly poisonous.

    In a twist of faith maybe Lincoln saved the rescuers lives- most people die on the way down after pushing too hard. Never know, maybe if they would have made it to the top not everyone would of made it down alive

    The pricetag of a guided expedition lies in the thereabouts of $50,000. The professional climber might pay $20,000 for Sherpa assistance. If you are self-sufficient, you're paying $11,000 for a climbing permit.

    It's called the death zone for a reason.
    After that point, you are on your own. There is not enough oxygen to help anyone.
    It's just the way it is.

    While in the Death Zone, you want to carry yourself weak, tired, lack of oxygen. It's a big problem if you bring a dead body down. If your friend falls down there, he will definitely be left there..

  • @ArielannaDragonBlood

    I'd help the person, hands down. If I could manage 20K without financially hurting me, I'm sure I can save the money again to go another time. You gotta help your fellow human being. And if I can't, it still wouldn't bother me. Climbing up Everest that far is still a massive achievement.

    • @mikeshoults4155
      @mikeshoults4155 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You can't help people up there. You barely have enough oxygen to carry your own body.
      That's why people get left behind. There is no choice. It's just impossible to help.
