Have to check, but I think this was composed well before 1905; initially, it wasn't called the "Rembrandt", but Dopper christened it thus so it could be played at 1906's Rembrandt's Festival, a huge event in Amsterdam.
I experienced the emotional slide while listening to this symphony: 1) very enjoyable 2) conservative 3) academic 4) unimaginative 5) unoriginal 6) four-square 7) dull. More counterpoint was needed, or at least a denser orchestral fabric, to keep the score from collapsing. The little fugue beginning the third movement perked up my ears, but that highlight was short-lived; mostly I was frustratingly saying "make something happen!", but alas, my instruction came over a hundred years too late.
(only 10 pages of score, start of the Adagio non troppo, doesn't get as far as the - Allegro con brio -though. Still, even those opening bars are interesting enough to be worth having a look at in score, not just listening to... webshop.donemus.nl/action/front/sheetmusic/10156 )
It’s ultimately good, but it’s unfortunately just not at the same level as his other compositions. The first movement takes too long to get in to the “meat” of it, and nothing else really especially stands out, though it’s all good. It’s enjoyable to listen to, but not something that I want to listen over and over again unfortunately

a few pages of sample score can be downloaded from Donemus Webshop online.

Deserves wider appreciation.
