I just hit the field with my local 669 and am damn proud of it!! Some of the older fitters that I work with now and are looking toward retirement and from what I hear......BENEFITS are great!!
just read all the comments for this video and you'll get an accurate impression for the type of people you'll be working with on a daily basis. enough said.
union fitter of 8 years now. 100k plus a year and 140 plus if working on the road which I have done last 3 years. let's just say I'll be laughing at 50 when I retire. have fun in the office until 70 scabs
Local 268 St.louis Mo.... I have been doing this for 8 years.... I have been a foreman for the past 1.5 years. I have friends that do other trades and they all say I have it made.
it's a good trade but the attitude specifically with guys in the road local is apathetic at best. something needs to change because it's eating itself from the inside out.
As the first apprentice said, sprinkler fitters do make MUCH more than firemen, which is actually a shame. Firemen are extremely underappreciated when it comes to pay. I find it offensively misleading to suggest that the union provides all of these wonderful benefits, when it is the employing company that actually provides them. The union takes credit for it, but you can get the same benefits without union membership. People forget that the union DOES NOT pay you; you pay them.
There's no "bench" for non Union. There's a lot of useless guys in the union, just banking on the union. There are a lot of non union companies out there that are offering same if not better benefits. Companies have found out that a happy employee is more productive. Unions are a outdated idea.
The Hell with Local Union 709 and Ray Calderon applied for apprenticeship.Received a email to contact Ray regarding scheduling a interview that was about 2 weeks ago no call back or email from Ray real professional...Taking my talents elsewhere

+Joe Davola I work for myself, my standard take home pay per week would be £2500 (per week) but I don't pay myself per week. I'm every 30 days on invoicing. So every 30 days I get round about £10k -tax
