- Mark Jackson remembers a Michael Jordan story from his rookie year. After being benched against the Chicago Bulls New York Knicks game, Mark Jackson got invited to Poker at Michael Jordan's hotel room. He stayed there all night doing his part to keep Jordan tired and awake. But after getting two hours of sleep, Jordan still put up 50 points on the Knicks and won the game.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

Facts! 💯Even better. It was an event when his games were on. People used to adjust their life schedule to his games.

Mark Jackson the best coach who never got a second chance that man started the warriors dynasty
Facts
Steph Curry started the Warriors dynasty. Jackson was a great motivator but us Warriors fans were frustrated by his actual x's and o's every single night. It's no coincidence Kerr comes in and wins immediately. The disparity here is why he didn't get hired again and how drastically improved the Warriors got after he left.
@@baller3030 Mark Jackson got the Warriors to make it to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Give him his damn credit

When he hit that jumper as a freshman at unc that won a natty, well, people knew he was different.
Then he takes the 84 olympic team of college players and beat an nba all star team. People knew this guy was just at a new level.

Legend of MJ will never die
Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have some of the most Unique stories in the NBA over the years.😂😂😂❤✊🏿💯🍷
total respect 4 Kobe... but I would say it's MJ and Bird who have the most mythical stories.. back in the '80s Gs were respected PURELY cos of their games, not cos of the media hype that came with ESPN in the late '90s and 2000s... off course now with social media players would make a couple of nice shots and start shrugging the shoulder lol its all hype and NO substance
Mike does, Kobe’s are just Mike knock offs.
And then there's the media manufactured fake goat LeFraud James
@@Sai_Saracen Bird's are hilarious

Mike had that killer instinct tired, sick, or healthy
Averaging 3.2 steals a game is crazy
And 1.6 blocks as a GUARD. It was INSANE.
@@blackurustrikes2328That‘s even more impressive. It was more likely for him to have 2 blocks than 1 block a game.
@frizzyrascal1493 - Jordan's 1.6 blocks/game is the highest per game rate of blocks of any guard for a full NBA season. That, plus the 3.2 steals, is probably why he was awarded the DOPY that season.
@@blackurustrikes2328This is why there is no comparison to LeBron James. LeBron never got two steals and a block a game. Jordan was literally twice as good defensively.
Offensively LeBron James scores the vast majority of his buckets within 5 ft of the basket. Jordan was able to have the same shooting percentage 15 ft away from the basket. Factoring in that they are both league average from 3, & Jordan was the superior free throw shooter I don't see all anybody can compare the two players. Jordan is in another stratosphere compared to LeBron James.
LeBron James is nothing more than a stat compiler who had durability and played more years in the league who was able to use his 6'8" frame and relaxed defensive rules to bully a league that had no centers or rim protection for 20 years.
Not really with the pace back then. Fact that he didn't have to guard shooters or elite ball handlers. He could gamble all game.
MJ was studying and observing Mark Jackson the whole night, even if he wasn't playing. That's a straightup killa right there!
On g
All without the juice!! Imagine that! MJ the goat of all goats
I love when awesome athletes are humble and give props to their competitors 🎉
MJ explained it in an article when he turned 50, ESPN the magazine: He struggled with insomnia when he entered the league, so to help himself to go to sleep he started drinking alcohol. He never drank before that.

Fourth former player I've heard say this about Mike. Magic said he noticed it in Barcelona when they were on the Dream Team together. Bj Armstrong and Rex Chapman discussed it during a podcast too.
David Robinson confirmed Magic's take about Barcelona. He couldn't believe that he either played cards ALL NIGHT or golfed ALL DAY and still had more energy than EVERYONE else. I think he called Mike an alien.

Jordan 88 is the greatest individual season in basketball history
Arguably. Especially when the defenders could grab you with 2 hands and there was no such thing as a hand check foul.
@@begcoinsand no flopping.
Wilt averaged 41 points and 25 rebounds per game through his first 6 seasons. His third season he averaged 50 points and 25 boards per game. I’d rather watch Mike, but he didn’t have the greatest individual season.
@@CrazyLinguiniLegs wilt was 7”1 when the avg height at the time he played was 6”5 to 6”8. Mike dominated when there were multiple 7foot centers and they actually protected the rim.
@@Michael0409 yeah, but he said “greatest individual season” and Wilt’s height doesn’t diminish the individual greatness of those numbers, even if it was easier for him. Russell was close to him on the boards, but there was absolutely nobody in the same ballpark as far as scoring. Incidentally, the average NBA player height has been practically static at 6’5”-6’7” since 1960.
Mark said, "How is he doing this?" but he did it to everybody, and every single night😂😂😂
Gil said it with his own mouth; "greatest year ever." And it was.
The year that made him the GOAT
MVP and DPOY. Can't argue that!
They sent Mark on a mission 😂😂😂
"Mike was always Playing With a Full Deck! . . He even had The Highest Hand!" :D
Man, never thought about that. That guy didn't get a lot of sleep in them glory years. He was a damn near rock star level. Absolute legend.
In the 80s MJ introduced how the game will be played in the late 90s. In early 90s, MJ showed how NBA shall be played in the early 2000s. In the mid to late 90s, MJ showed the world how the NBA will be played in mid to late 2000s and up until early 2010s. Very tactical.
MJ kept evolving from the 80s up to late 90s. That is why he was different.
Thus, this is also my belief that him and the bulls would not dominate the late 2000s. Those games where tactical, rugged and everyone learned from MJs time. In short, everyone evolved.
Everything you said is true except the not dominate in the 2000’s part. I know that bulls team could adapt and dominate in this era easy. I am 51 I watched 80’s and 90’s on tv and live in person .
2000s east? The pistons n nets ??
Ppl always say in the old days they all hated each other but everybody was hanging out with MJ before games
Michael Jordan was like Prince and Michael Jackson. Everyone has stories about hanging out with them, but their inside people has said, M. Jackson, Prince, and M. Jordan didn't have friends. Which lets you know how they viewed the world and people around them.
@@thespadestable lol well MJ used to pretend the guys were his friends. And they thought of him as a friend...

You might be more motivated to beat a friend lol
Most of the time when someone don't sleep but gotta do something important you might have alot of energy left but best believe that the day after. You are knocked out sleeping like 12 hours 😂😂

Mike Jordan is a living myth. The more stories that we hear about him, the more unreal Michael Jordan becomes. Props to Gilbert Arenas for bringing on former ball players who have no horse in the race, so they will honestly tell us that Michael Jordan was God’s gift to the sport of basketball.
There are 4 stories:
* His
* The people within his personal circle (parents, spouse, siblings, children, partners of crime, consigliere)
* Teammates
* The outsiders (media, other players in the league, others)

This is the most astonishing thing about MJ, he hardly ever slept and still played all 82 games 10 times....he also drank alot smoked 6 hrs daily...and golfed which is pretty tiring.
The other dream teamers say the same thing. Clyde Drexler said MJ was some sort of "Bionic Man", and David Robinson said Jordan was a "Freak of Nature". I genuinely wanted to be like Mike as a kid!!
That's insane. To mentally and physically just turn it on even without proper rest is unheard of. Professional athletes always advocated proper resIt for optimal performance. I can only think of Kobe who surpassed this because he was depriving himself of enough sleep to be able to practice more then play at a high level still.
Evil don’t sleep😂😂
Skip Bayless wants you to think Mike was someone who never associated with other players. He did it with every team
And see, players from this era Did hang out together, even though they now bash the current players for being too friendly with each other.

It’s called greatness. Some dudes just have different mentalities that allow them to push passed being tired.
