I Was Given a Feast by Complete Strangers in Mexico (#9)

  • Lake Chapala is beautiful, but I wasn't expecting an Airbnb scam when I arrived. Being somewhat ignorant of the local geography, I booked an Airbnb pretty far from the usual hotels and ended up in a small town called Mezcala. Little did I know, the listing was fake. Thankfully, I met the nicest Mexican family ever who restored my faith in humanity.

Oye, guys. Some of you seem to be angry that I didn't offer money or a gift or something. In case this wasn't clear (I tried to offer a bottle of tequila and was refused), they weren't expecting anything. That's not how Mexican hospitality works. In fact offering money at a gathering like this can even come off as weird or awkward.
So don't get it twisted cabrones. I may be a douche, but not a cheap one.

The Hispanic family was cooking dinner and I said it smelled so good. They asked me if I would like to join them for dinner. I asked are you serious ? They replied, yes. Come wash up at the sink and join us. It really appreciated by me to wash the days dust and grim off. The kids came in and we all sat down to a wonderful meal and shared conversation and joked around. I got to say Mexican cuisine is one of my favorites by the way. But their generosity and hospitality really chased away the troubles of earlier in the day and will always be remembered fondly. Great people.

I just wish I could stop all the lies being spread about the majority of them. And this comment section demonstrates that culture shock. My only concern is people hating on this TH-camr. As a Mexican I saw nothing wrong in this video. This type of hospitality is normal. In the US I try to be like this with people and they get weirded out thinking I am looking for something in return. It's such a dark feeling that people have such a selfish perspective. Just a thing bro, asking for an extra shot doesn’t harm anybody,he originally offered to pay, they refused they accepted to let him eat with them,he might had an awkward approach but it was obvious he didn’t meant anything wrong, also if someone asking you for a simple shot ales you feel like you weren’t nice that’s completely on you,I’m Mexican and I have done this and had people done this to me and never felt offended cause I knew they just wanted a little more and that’s fine if he had asked for a full glass or 3 more shots that’s being rude but he didn’t,t least in Mexico we are thought to think this way, unless he’s rude I won’t be rude or feel offended

I remember one time I was fishing and some fellow Mexicans drove up. Some started fishing and the others made a fire on the grill and started making carne asada. After a while they told me, "vengase y echese un taco primo"(come eat a taco cousin). I didnt know them from Adam but that's how my people are, very hospitable.
