- It was supposed to be just a simple trip to a village bar. Oh, how wrong we were. This was no ordinary village in western Uganda that we had entered. Join us on this strange tale of alcohol, corruption and much, much worse.

I am black American and I've met some people from Africa who joined the US Army with me and worked with them as cooks and one of them didn't eat meat and was traumatize by the sight of raw meat. I asked him why and the stories I heard was heartbreaking others from Pacific islands and South America had similar horrific stories. Don't go to the villages lol.

Even still, I would not do anything to piss off the people who live in the area I'm just visiting. No matter how absurd their thinking may be, that is still their home.

What you don't know is that, they were discussing his presence before they approached him. Villagers can be friendly, yes, but they are also cautious and have assessed visitors before engaging with them. Something happened in the course of the interactions for them to turn against Tommy and Josie.

Uganda is among the top 5 countries in Africa with Alcohol problems, and is number 6 with Mental health issues in Africa. I humbly request you put these issues into consideration as you make your videos. More awareness is needed in Uganda in these two areas as so many people have passed due to alcoholism and so many suffer with mental health issues yet there's little to no awareness about these two problems. Let your videos be part of the solution please, plus put the confidentiality policies into consideration, ask for people's consent, or their leaders for permission before you record them. Uganda has suffered many problems, don't blame people for stopping you from recording.
Otherwise it's good to show the world different parts of Africa.

In the West, you can offer money for anything you might want but in older civilizations, words and respect goes a looong way, they’re more valuable than money. Even Josie had a nice way of telling you why your behavior was considered rude :)
And if you can use their village and what it has to offer for a nice day out for yourself and even make a TH-cam video with an irrelevant title to get your views, it’s only right that you ‘offer’ them money with respect and gratitude, instead of throwing it as to get rid of them.
And cannibalism is a lazy way to understand a small religious sect. In India, we have Aghoris and even if one might not agree with their philosophy, it still is their own. The whole point of traveling is for you to experience how different the world is from you and not critique it for being ‘weird’ because it isn’t a mirror reflection.

I have travelled to Uganda with my daughter to a village that is remote. We were made welcome. But were escorted by our hosts all the time. Everyone we met were curious about us (two white wonen) but were also kind to us. We didn't take photos or video of people without permission. However I felt that we were safe because of our hosts, alone would have been a bit scary.
Its always best to have a local host anywhere in the world. I would never go to any western or Eastern Europe without a local as a host. I dont always feel comfortable in US suburban if I stick out and am by myself.

The girl was the saving grace for my impression of Uganda. Any country that produced an angel like her can't be all bad. But these villagers showed themselves to be rapacious greedy criminals and terrible hosts. What a nightmare. And for you of those who make excuses for their hateful conduct in some silly form of cultural relativism, or blame him somehow for being in their midst, hey stupid, shitty attitudes and ignorant beliefs are wrong in any context, in any situation, in any land across this world. These villagers don't deserve understanding, they should be scorned.

I lived in Uganda, Mmbarara to be more specific. I became literally best friends with a gang of Rastas in Biafra which I was warned would rob me and maybe kill me. They turned out to be some of the best dudes I ever met in my life honestly.
This situation looks a bit familiar but like these people are backwards.
Go to Biafra in Mmbarara, ask someone for "Cleveland's Pub". Tell Cleveland Jesus from Australia said hi.
I got blind drunk in his pub and was carried back home and put in bed by dudes that were meant to be dangerous. I am not lying.
I was sitting there in the pub drinking a Nile Special with a glass of Supa on the side (ask someone in Mmbarara what supa is lol).
I remember some African dude came and sat down next to me, I bought him a drink, he looked nervous or something eventually he leans over to me and he is like "I don't want to be rude but you are white, when it gets dark here you need to leave." I forgot about that conversation altogether.
At one point I was drunk dancing with a bunch of people to reggae and I was shouting and making crazy sounds and stuff with the dudes, then I woke up next day hung over in bed. I went back down to Biafra to my friend Hamza and sat with him while he told me the whole crazy story. I had random dudes coming over to me to high five me and shake my hand, I didn't understand some of them but I must of impressed some people that night because I became friends with like everyone in Biafra. Lol

Seriously, this is the first village in Uganda where they are scared of a camera. In the Uganda I know, a camera will always get people saying 'take us a photo.'

As someone who was raised in Uganda... People absolutely hate being recorded. But if you ask and pay them they sometimes allow. Also if you are shooting something they will most likely watch.
Also near my village in Rakai there are known to be cannibals there.
