Thank you for very clear instructions. I find it quite easy to install the ink cartridges because of the video. I don't use colored ink with my HP Envy 4500 printer, just black. I used to install the color ink cartridge and the black, but the color cartridge would dry up and go to waste, because I didn't use it much. So, I recently decided to just installed one black ink cartridge, but now I keep getting this pop-up window telling me that it would be better to also have a color ink cartridge installed. I ignore the message, close the window and continue printing, but it's annoying to have the message pops up each time I print a document. Should I just install the old, used colored ink cartridge in the empty slot to prevent the pop up window?
+Kicky Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. A little ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature. Please refer this document for more information: hp.care/2ogCdNj

Just got mine in the mail. The carriages are stuck. I can't get to the black one. Could only install the color one. Can't move them manually either. Can anyone help or I guess I will have to return it.

+JJ Films I understand when you're trying to install the cartridges, the carriage slot won't slide all the way and you're unable to install the ink cartridge. The carriage, which holds the cartridges has stalled in the printer. The carriage might try to move into the access area. If it does, allow it to move to that position. Please have a look at this document to resolve the carriage jam:hp.care/2qPUu67
So the question I have is why don't you send out both color and black ink at the same time, don't ink turn bad after a while? and you would want to change it anyway???
TheAnimatingdiddy “Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low-ink levels, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.” The above quote can be found in the document titled “'Ink Alert' or 'Low on Ink' Message Displays on the Computer or the Control Panel”. The document can be found by searching for C01844912 on HP’s home page or using Google search.
Thanks for taking the time to reply! It worked with the tricolor cartridge only. I haven't tried putting the black one back again yet though...But thanks!
Please start with a hard reset of the printer, using the steps below. 1. While the printer is turned on, please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. 2. Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet/power strip/power bar/surge protector. 3. Please wait a full 60 seconds. 4. Please plug the power cord back in the printer and into a wall outlet. It is extremely important that it is a wall outlet and not a power strip/power bar/surge protector. 5. If the printer does not automatically turn on, please turn the printer on. Are you still getting the same message?

I have been a customer with HP for several years. Unfortunately, HP is becoming my biggest problem. I purchased this printer and I believe it has been more of a problem than a help. The tech support and customer services reps barely speak English to know what you're saying or how to respond. It is just ridiculous. I have never purchased another brand for my laptops, desktops, and printers but I think I need to start exploring other brands. HP sucks!!

+Johnna Locke May I know whether your printer is registered under Instant ink program?
Mine says that the color needs to be replaced but it clearly does not, seeing how it still has ink in it and it's not faded or empty :/

“Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low-ink levels, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.”
The above quote can be found in the document titled “'Ink Alert' or 'Low on Ink' Message Displays on the Computer or the Control Panel”. The document can be found by searching for C01844912 on HP’s home page or using Google search.
I've just changed a black cartridge and there's no ink at all...
+Pauline Alary Please have a look at this document hp.care/2eeQ58c it might help you fix the issue!
Thanks for taking the time to reply! It worked with the tricolor cartridge only. I haven't tried putting the black one back again yet though...But thanks!
+Pauline Alary That is great that you were able to get things working again!
when I replace it never goes back to OK to print. Stays on screen to replace ink cartridge????????
Please start with a hard reset of the printer, using the steps below.
1. While the printer is turned on, please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
2. Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet/power strip/power bar/surge protector.
3. Please wait a full 60 seconds.
4. Please plug the power cord back in the printer and into a wall outlet. It is extremely important that it is a wall outlet and not a power strip/power bar/surge protector.
5. If the printer does not automatically turn on, please turn the printer on.
Are you still getting the same message?
+HP Printer Support yes

Somehow, the printer tells me "cartridge is not detected as available for printing" and that it can't print, but it's able to print an alignment paper. And yes, it is in single mode. What gives???
Your printer makes no sense.

HP sucks!!
+Martica Trimmings I'd be happy to assist you with your HP printer. To better help you, would you please provide some additional information? Where applicable I have included a guide to help you find the information I am requesting.
- Do you have the HP Envy 4500 printer as per the video? If not, please let me know the model and product number of your HP printer. ow.ly/BhGFr
- What operating system are you using on your computer? whatsmyos.com/
- How is the printer connected (USB cable or wireless)? If you do not have the Envy 4500, it may also support an ethernet connection.
- Are you getting any error messages? If yes, what do they say and where are they displayed (printer or computer)?
- Please include any other information you feel is important.
I will watch for your response.
