Been here 32 years and didn’t know it doesn’t freeze here.. I also learned that it doesn’t get hot here until July I’m sure it’s august… transportation? Mmm there is that here. Maybe research some more?
It snows a few times in winter but not enough to keep the snow on the ground! We have gotten a light snow brush on the ground but goes away after a few hours. Hope this helps! Summer time it gets very hot! But winters it feels pretty nice out! Not like Florida where during Christmas time you could be swimming! 😂
😮😂😂Aiken has public buses!!! Not when I was a kid. I think the last time Aiken got snow was 1980 and I was four. I remember my mother bringing me outside to make a tiny snowman.
I hated vacation here... for a Small Town, it was way too crowded with people moving from all over bringing violence and chaos throughout what used to be a safe Aiken... Breaks my heart because I wanted to move here to avoid the influx of people at hometown of Oberlin, Ohio... I guess the smarts are leaving these bigger cities to bring industry to these small towns but in exchange the violence went down there and oberlin as well
Not sure where she got her info but temps are wrong. August is the hottest month of the year and winter temps of teens for lows and high 30s for highs. Aiken is also overcrowded and losing their southern hospitality.
What about the crime rate? My husband has been offered a job close by and we were thinking of Aiken, but after reading of the murders/violent crimes, it’s really deterred us.
I was born here almost 70 years ago, and I would not consider this a "murder/violent crime" area! Augusta, GA which is 17 miles across the Savannah River is where the murder/crime is taking place. Aiken is a treasure that we "aikenites" would rather keep private, it's that great of a place. Our City of Aiken Police Dept. has one of the highest ratings in the state.🙂
Thank you for keeping it real and sassy - this is soooo helpful as I snow bird for first time in Aiken this winter season, Jan - mid April. And of course, none of the 5 reasons is a deterrent - haha.
It freezes pretty often, late Nov. through Feb. March is a really good month to do stuff outside too. June's temps are usually bearable, but July and August are awful. A bad thing- litterbugs are abundant. Lots of low-life people throw trash out their car window. Gardening? Sand.. Geniuses just voted to raise property taxes for new, expensive schools.
First time I've seen your videos! Good vibe and good presentation. Born and raised in North Augusta area and have a couple acre's there in Aiken. Looking to move from California for the obvious reasons lol Tennessee is on my radar but SC would be like going home. I need to make the trip back there and check it out again. Thanks again for your videos!
I love that you're from NA! Thanks so much for tuning in. If you're ever stopping through or considering the area, definitely reach out! 🙂 - Lindsey Vance
Well...thanks, but those are all good reasons to move there (except the bugs...LOL). I'm just south of Buffalo, NY. Our range of summer temps range from: Isn't it supposed to be warm WTF!; Holy hell; and Really? Winter temps range from: Wow, only had to warm up the car for an hour today; Are you kidding me?; WTF!!!!! Again?; and repeat. Bugs? Yeah, we got 'em too. Mosquitoes big enough to carry a small car. Bees...oh let's not forget the bees! Taxes? Or property taxes are ridiculous! Our sales tax is 8.75% to START with...including vehicle sales tax! Cost of living sucks. Nightlife...we love the more laid-back atmosphere, so we're good with that. But hopefully you have a Walmart too? Anyway, thanks for the info. We're looking to relocate to Aiken by next winter.
I think you’ll like it here, have you found a place yet? About the weather…yeah it wasn’t supposed to rain until about 2 in the afternoon and be 100+ degrees, today it was hailing and thunderstorming by 11 and never got above 80 but tomorrow could and probably will be another story. Good luck 🍀 And yes, there’s two Walmarts and a sams club.
Can you please tell me something about the safety aspects. What are the best places nearest to Augusta University Health Science Campus (30912) with safe neighbourhood to live with my family at AIKEN. I am very new to this place and currently living at Augusta. Also, What about school system (especially middle schools)? Thanks
Those two areas are in completely different states, Sir. Augusta is in Georgia, Aiken is in South Carolina. We are a metro oriented area, however 30912 which is Augusta is about 30 or more minutes away from 29803 which is Aiken. If you're looking to be in or around 30912 then you need to be looking into Augusta, Georgia not Aiken, South Carolina.
There is tons of fun happening in Aiken, it just depends on what you’re looking for. I rarely find myself going to Augusta unless it’s for the airport.
Everyone’s definition of fun is different some people do not like nightclubs or too much noise going on in the street ,other people are just into the outdoors life and a town like Aiken might be perfect. I prefer less crowds and craziness and more outdoors easy-going lifestyle.
I hear you on the fun but you have to describe what type of fun you are looking for. We live in Aiken and have lots of activities to keep us busy and that are fun.
There's some in the state park at times. Below I20 in Aiken County is where they are common. The phinizy swamp over in Agusta has many and huge gators.
There are gators here as we do have rivers and where there are rivers gators will be lol but we don’t hear a lot about seeing gators all the time or any reports on any incidents with gators. Nothing like Florida lol Florida you will see gators everywhere
A couple gators have been spotted at a park/pond perhaps 5 miles west of Aiken. There are lots of gators in the Savannah river and backwaters just 15 miles to the west of Aiken in No Augusta, SC and Augusta, GA.
No mention of crime, one of the more important concerns when moving to a new state. There are reports Aiken’s crime rate is pretty high. Can anyone elaborate?
Yes there is a fair amount of crime mostly on the north side of town. Overall not too bad but it is troubling to hear about gun shots or a murder. There are some lower income and run down areas but most of the crime is limited and in those areas. Our downtown area is charming and in 5 years I've been here I haven't seen any type of crime.
@@livinginsouthcarolina Really? I've seen at least a few centimeters if not more. And besides the seasonal weather changes so drastically. An inch isn't very high either.
Also, the firefighters here aren't paid. They put it in your face if someone burns to death because of their negligence, that "Theres no guarantee anyone is going to show up." They killed my brother-in-law.
If you’re referring to a lack of car clubs or car shows, you’re right, and I’d like to see more too, but it’s a small town and not a lot of people means not a lot of cars. What cars do you have?
Aiken is no longer a safe community. Surprised when i googled. It gets - degrees for a month it’s freezing!! It’s super expensive and everyone and mother mother is moving here too. Coming from WA I can’t believe how expensive it is with taxes and grocery stores that aren’t that cheap. For a horse community they sure are only building town houses and cookie cutter. Another expensive purchase since everyone wants a farm home

@@QUEENOFHEARTS3839 gotcha. Well thanks a lot for the reply. I'll be moving in January from Reno NV to Graniteville. Back to east. Closer to family and better weather lol.
