    This movie clearly came from people who really loved the attraction. I love that like in the ride the first half of the movie the ghostly happenings are darker and more mysterious and later on, the ghosts are, except for Alistair Crump, happy haunts.

    Great Video Doggans, I'd really love to see more of these. Also on the note of Streaming Services, this week Disney announced they will no longer be making any DVDs or Blu-Rays in Australia and New Zealand. As a lifelong Disney fan and DVD/Blu-Ray collector, I'm guttered by this decision - but it also affects the SAG/WAG strike, since Australia is a big market for DVD & Blu-Rays and this decision basically decreases residual payments for Writers and Actors. Not to mention the way, Streaming services have been getting removing content left and right.

    I enjoyed it quite a bit. The biggest problem I have though is(Sorta spoilers)
    Contance Hatchaway, my favorite ghost in the ride. She started off as a threat, but by the ending she was just kinda a subordinate to The Hatbox Ghost, which is a bummer because of how she's easily the most terrifying and threatening part of the ride to me.

    So...in regards to future installments of "Singular Cinema Subsequently"/One Movie Later, whichever he's going to call it from now on, how similar will the choice of movies to cover in regards to their connections to the parks compared to the Some Jerk with a Camera iteration? Like, will you cover the upcoming The Marvels since Marvel has Avenger Campus and Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel are walk around characters and also Flight Force Roller Coaster in Disney Paris? What about Blue Beetle since DC has their area in Six Flags?

    I have a theory that the "four hours north" would put it at Natchez, MS. Natchez is also a historic town on the Mississippi River, full to bursting with haunted antebellum mansions, and has been name dropped in Disneyland multiple times around Rivers of America. And some of those mansions are right kooky. Look up Haller Nutt and his octagonal plantation house.

    In regards to Rules in the Haunted Mansion, that's a tricky balance to strike. Yes there's the flow of the attraction and any rules stated in the movie, but on the other hand...the mansion is a sort of Spookier Wonderland from the perspective of the visitors. At a certain point, there has to be a sort of nonsensical anarchy to it.

    Timing it for October streaming makes even more sense than my initial "still time to ride the actual ride around its release," because that's still a very short window between then and the August closure.
    Given the close proximity to Mardi Gras and the months prior to the August closure, the original March release really did make the most sense.

    Funny how you guys talked about wishing Jamie Lee Curtis could be in the movie more since she’s obviously a fan. Her dad Tony Curtis starred and produced a movie called 40 pounds of trouble. Which was an adaptation of the Damian Runyon story Little Miss Marker. The movie is kinda boring until…they get to Disneyland. The climax of the movie is Tony Curtis literally running around Disneyland. It’s a Universal film that got permission from Walt to film at Disneyland. The movie was released in 1962 which was the same year Tony Curtis got divorced from Janet Leigh Jamie’s mom, and Jamie Lee was about three or four at the time. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Daddy brought her to set during that time. But the movie is worth the watch to see Vintage Disneyland in her glory. (It’s literally advertised on the movie poster 😂)

  • @rogue7723
    @rogue7723 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I _made certain_ to see this in theaters and though Disney has been a big disappointment to me as of late I enjoyed this movie a lot. It's _not as funny nor scary_ as I wanted it to be, yet the acting and plot were _better_ than I initially expected. I also liked all the characters and their backstories, especially Ben's story about his wife's death and how he feels like she didn't know he loved her (LaKeith's acting _sells_ it like Samsung tablets on Black Friday) but a _bit more_ from Tiffany Haddish's character when she was talking about her dad mainly because I associate Tiffany Haddish with being the sassy, loud comic relief. I was afraid Owen Wilson was gonna be annoying, (especially considering his _last movie_ about a haunted mansion, but he was decent.)
    Another thing I loved was the set, you really feel like you're in the attraction (I also love how they show both the DisneyLand Mansion but also the Florida mansion.) One thing that _already elevates_ this movie ahead of the Eddie Murphy version is it gets to the Mansion and the ghosts materializing fairly quickly and that the ride references serve the plot whereas in the "Murphy Mansion" as I call it, the plot comes almost to a screeching halt just to throw in forced ride reference. For instance, the Florida Mansion has important items and tells us about events that are essential to the plot. The moments like the stretching room and the stretching hallway and the lines from the Ghost Host spoken by characters feel more integral and natural to the story. It's not just there to be like "OH! WE DID THE THING FROM THE RIDE!! WE DID THE THING FROM THE RIDE!! WE DID THE THING!! MONEY, PUH-LEASE!!!!"
    The effects on the ghosts were cool. they were a bit too CGish but they were colorful, not like cheerfully colored, it was more like being in a black lit room where it's mainly dark but with vibrant purples and greens. Finally two components for this movie where "Murphy Mansion" _crashes and burns_ is that the characters from the ride were important to the plot (I did like The Hatbox Ghost being the main antagonist) and that the ghosts were _happy haunts._ In the ride, they like living in the mansion and scaring people and the movie ends with some of the ghosts still happily living in it with the gang and there's even a cool New Orleans Jazz version of Grim Grinning Ghosts. Overall, _not only_ is it a _big step up_ from the original movie, it's a great adaptation of the classic attraction and a grim grinning good movie to put you in the spooky spirit.

  • @burneyboys02
    @burneyboys02 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Jeez it's been some time since the movie came out and I totally forgot about this video so apologies.
    I was so overly hyped for this movie after that first teaser and the one constant thing I kept saying online is that this movie will be WAY BETTER than the Eddie Murphy version...........I'm still glad I did cause now that version no longer exists to me now. I think this movie was a much better improvement over its predecessor cause it felt more like what I wanted to see from the Haunted Mansion on the big screen. Definitely a better story and had much better plot points and very enjoyable characters. The Ghost following you home concept was very done and the nods/easter eggs always brought a smile on my face. The Ghost Winks was a very interesting concept they brought in this movie and sure enough after the Disney+ release I realized that I too had experienced a Ghost Wink before in life so I really felt that connection. I think this cast was having a lot of fun behind the scenes and I really enjoyed them so much more than the previous movie. And speaking of the cast, I know everyone is still groaning over the fact about Jared Leto. I think he wasn't that bad. Actually, when explaining the backstory of the Hatbox Ghost I could hardly make out his face that I thought it was somebody else in the role. But I still appreciate that he was the villain which is what Guillermo Del Toro wanted to do. So I think this movie worked, yeah they released during a difficult time but it was still good enough.
    1:21:28 This I wish I saw it coming. I was hoping for a little tease for the S.E.A. but when explaining a deleted scene referencing Thunder Mesa I that's as close as we'll get for the Disney Parks Cinematic Universe. But yeah I still want an S.E.A. movie/series if they tie it into the upcoming Tower of Terror movie.

    Maybe I missed this in the video, but was very surprised no one mentioned my biggest issue of the incessant product placement. Like in the middle of LaKeith Stanfield's wonderfully sad grief speech he name drops Baskin Robbins? Or specific shout outs to Amazon, CVS, Zillow & Costco? Or the prominent displays of Burger King & Monopoly front & center of frame? I get big movies sometimes need product placement due to existing deals, but this was pretty egregious to me. Overall though, very fun vlog and hope we get more One Movie Later esque vids here if Tony's not making them anymore!

    • @doggans
      @doggans  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I get why the product placement bothered people, and there were definitely a few instances too many, but it really didn't bother me that much because most of it felt less like "promoting a brand name" and more like "using a brand name for specificity". Even the infamous "Baskin Robbins" felt like the exact kind of innocuous-but-specific detail that sticks out in someone's mind when they're recounting the most traumatic experience of their life.
      Basically, if the options are mentioning real brands, and making up fake-sounding brands like "Action Man", I'll take the real brands 100% of the time (unless the fake brand names are REALLY funny).

  • @rct3isepic
    @rct3isepic ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2 things. 1st thing, I'm nearly certain that Jared Leto is there because of TRON. He's the main driving force behind it and the one producing it, so I'd bet Sean Bailey insisted he be in this to see if Disney fans will see a movie despite his involvement to prep for how TRON will be received. 2nd thing, on the subject of Theme Park adaptations, you guys are thinking way too domestically. In the UK there's a park called Alton Towers that has a series of roller coasters called the secret weapons that would make for an AMAZING anthology series! The first secret weapon (which was secret weapon 3 because reasons) is the story of an alien creature that rose from the earth and attacked nearby areas so a secret government organization builds a steel structure to hold it in place before it can cause anymore damage. And the roller coaster track IS that structure.

    This movie is not directed at you, it's directed at an audience with an imagination, who are still at the age that they don't judge everything they see or read, who don't care about who directed a movie, or who even who the actors are. All they see is the characters. They watch a movie and can be drawn into this "other world" without logic getting in the way of their enjoyment of it.

    Just so you know, it IS Jared Leto. That was HIS voice in the movie, it also involved part digital and part PHYSICAL performance. The fact you're saying it's not him goes to show how little faith you have in him, which is disgusting. Even I can tell it's Jared and I haven't even seen many of his films. You lot see one movie and instantly judge him as awful on every single movie thereafter.
    Jared was one of the best things in this movie, along with Lakeith's performance.
    Also, the fact people were expecting a DISNEY FAMILY movie to be on the same level as Barbie and Oppenheimer shows how dense people are. This movie was meant to be fun for fun sake, and if you can't watch a movie without just having fun you NEED to lighten up.

      We know it's him doing the voice; we just didn't think he did a particularly remarkable job.
      And we've seen him in far more than one movie and he was just as mediocre in all of them as he was in this one.
      And I don't know why you think we were expecting this to be "on the same level" as anything; we were just hoping it would be a worthy adaptation of the ride. But the fact that you think we SHOULDN'T expect a "DISNEY FAMILY" movie to be high-quality shows that you have a remarkable lack of respect for the genre.

    The entire graveyard sequence is better in haunted mansion 2003
    The hitchhiking ghosts in 2003 were better
    The pacing and special effects were better in 2003....
    Madame Leotta was better in 2003 (and had a more meaningful part in the story)
    2023 also has a million characters, most of which are entirely useless
    The ballroom dance was better in 2003
    The jokes in both are very bad but 2023 was far longer
    Idk guys I think I'm team Eddie Murphy lol

      The only ones of these I could even begin to see a case for being better in 2003 are the graveyard sequence and the ballroom dance.

      @doggans well I'm glad you enjoy the new one more.
      The marvel comic is still better than both
