Did you grow this tree from seed and how big was it when you got it. I just purchased mine at a good size and grown from seed so I’m just trying to gage how many years before fruiting. Thanks for sharing and great video. PS did it taste like ice cream?
Mine was as a seedling around 2 years old. It fruited 3 years from purchase, so that's 5 years from seed. Taste is closest to cotton candy, varies with varieties. Good luck with yours!
I really enjoyed watching your videos. It's amazing how much you can grow in Melbourne Victoria. I live in the South East area. Do you offer a garden visit so I can learn and get more ideas what and how to grow more tropical fruits in my garden? Thanks.
I'm glad you found my channel. You're not the first to ask for a garden tour of the "Melbourne Tropics", I'm yet to decided whether to do this, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, subscribe for future updates and keep on checking back. The best is yet to come!
I'm based in Latrobe Valley and also keen to know/see more. Would love some one on one advice on what is possible in my garden. super exciting to see all these tropicals growing in Melbourne!
AUGHHH! Is anyone anywhere ever going to give a good description of the TASTE of fruit? Duh we know it's sweet. What does it TASTE like? Please! It would be a bonus but very helpful for people who are considering planting this tree to talk about whether the taste is better on this tree vs. others and is it worth planting since it's so large? Does this one fix nitrogen?
Definitely a worthy nitrogen fixer and a large canopy tree which is why I planted it. Taste is not its strong point. Mildly sweet and moist cotton candy like flavour. I haven't tried any other Inga beans for comparison.
@@RealLifeFruitopia You should open up an online shop, and only sell limited things that are easy and not time consuming to send, such as seeds. I am sure people would purchase things like loquat and ice cream bean seeds.
@@RealLifeFruitopia thats great, you must have an excellent microclimate. gives me hope as i just harvested some ice cream beans & planted a whole bunch of seeds & the temperature has just dropped dramatically
Also a bonus that this tree is so beautiful, the colours and sculptural shapes, really like a painting.
I hope to see more growing around me

How does it taste?
Cotton candy or marshmallow
@@RealLifeFruitopia how does the tree deal with the cold in Melbourne?
@@conormb5893 no problems at all. Every year it doubles in size and this winter its holding over a hundred full size pods.
@@RealLifeFruitopia I was wondering if you have a second tree? As I heard somewhere that they are not self fruiting
@@conormb5893 one tree only.
Awesome! Do you sell the seeds? I am in south Texas. Hot and humid. Would love to grow this beautiful tree
I don't sell. Try one of the links on here. www.etsy.com/au/market/ice_cream_bean_seed
Did you buy your ice cream bean from daleys?
From a local nursery in Melbourne

My ice cream bean has some kind of bugs on the leaves that looks similar to scale but the leaves are start to feel sticky but no damage to the plant
The tree will be feeding the other plants nitrogen, they plant them in coffee farms to fix the soil. The sugar cane and bananas would love that tree
also the Custard Apple and Fuerte Avocado right below it. Once the Inga has spread 10 metres wide I'll chance growing a Jackfruit again.
