So the 6 keys for getting decent profits for those of us waiting on miners to arrive after August seem to be: 1. place in less densely areas in major cities/suburbs, 2. buy more than one miner (like, 4 to 5), 3. Have an antenna at least 15' off the ground (depending on terrain), 4. hope the token continues to appreciate as the number of miners increases, 5. hope for an increase of rewards for data packets as more people used the network, and 6. staking.

The time it takes to ship these things you would have gotten it in October anyway. And at $500 and some of these miners only making ~$2/day (If no one is around them) You're looking at almost a year of mining before break even. The only plus to this is it consumes little power and is truly passive set and forget.

That SP North America Syncro bit is now $650, bobcat price has not increased yet $429, as I am looking to buy a 2nd for my sons house. I can see them all raising their price more and more to a point where nobody will buy it as the HNT rewards diminish. The way the RPI hotspots could work with making you more money would be by making a bigger network if you were alone and didn't have much of a network around your city. say you lived in a small city but you owned and rented out many properties in this city, if you created a network of cheap RPI's to place in your houses around the city then you could create a bigger network for your main hotspot that you got from a helium approved manufacture, this could boost profits. if you had houses that were around 1000ft away from each other like if you owned multiple houses in a new development this would be optimal. though if you already owned many houses you might as well just buy the helium approved miners for more profit, this is just to give you an idea of how these home made RPI hotspots could possibly help.
Interesting. Question though that I hope gets back around somehow... So you need a specific device to get paid at all. Ok. So set that up here at home. But I think the video said you still can make basically network nodes but you just won't get paid? So why not buy the $500 premade that gets paid, then set up like 4-5 $50 pi zeros around you at your neighbor's houses? The paid one should be located so that its in the most profitable location, the others serving as witnesses or challengers or whatever. Then just repeat that template over and over geographically. Go to gas stations, hotels, fast food restaurants, etc. 1 bought device for every so many self-made ones.

Thank you very much! The reach depends mainly on the line of sight, so based on where your placing it it will be the main impact. Getting an antenna helps but the best way to check that out is by using the cloudrf website which calculated your line of sight. Hope it helps!
So in reality this mining device is only as good as the work network you’re using. Most likely people will have to upgrade work service too for the increased useable
So many people have a different opinion on these. Some say they more hotspots the better it will be but a-lot of people also say the more there is the less better they will be. However i have 8 coming September, so they say lets see if they do😂😂. Great videos👍

i checked the map and in Austria/Vienna there are (lets say) none. If I would by 3-4 devices than I would have to place them in locations where they can see each other (Line of side) correct? Would it not to be best when I place the devices on a field in each corner?

Probably not a big deal. Mine is a few houses over from where I am as I wanted to be in my own HEX. I don't think height on the app setting matters as much as the dBi so I've read.
Im skeptical about the amount of users... Also, how does this effect data caps with ISP'S.? What if in a miner, using his own wifi to power it, does the usage of users go against my isp data cap? I currently have a data cap of 1.2TB.
I'm concerned that the project isn't making a great deal of profit from actually providing value, rather by "proof of coverage" model, of which the reward is eroding away. The project doesn't seem to be very decentralized, either. Why would a DIY miner not be allowed to profit from the PoC? what is the concern here?

So you need a specific device to get paid at all. Ok. So set that up here at home.
But I think the video said you still can make basically network nodes but you just won't get paid?
So why not buy the $500 premade that gets paid, then set up like 4-5 $50 pi zeros around you at your neighbor's houses? The paid one should be located so that its in the most profitable location, the others serving as witnesses or challengers or whatever.
Then just repeat that template over and over geographically. Go to gas stations, hotels, fast food restaurants, etc. 1 bought device for every so many self-made ones.

Thank you very much! The reach depends mainly on the line of sight, so based on where your placing it it will be the main impact. Getting an antenna helps but the best way to check that out is by using the cloudrf website which calculated your line of sight. Hope it helps!

So in reality this mining device is only as good as the work network you’re using. Most likely people will have to upgrade work service too for the increased useable

You need to space them out, if you have them all in the same place it splits your rewards.

So people with a hotspot are basically antennas for an IOT network? If many people use Helium for their phones and connect to your hotspot will your internet bandwidth get eaten up?

i checked the map and in Austria/Vienna there are (lets say) none. If I would by 3-4 devices than I would have to place them in locations where they can see each other (Line of side) correct? Would it not to be best when I place the devices on a field in each corner?
Exactly, placing them around each other 300 meters apart making like a circle will be your best choice so they all witness eachother

Yes you can, youl just have to be near them or signed in to your wallet with the 12 seed phrase to pair them with Bluetooth to your account
I saw on the Helium site that besides mining they also support staking. They plan to move their network to staking ? Or what is the purpose of staking in their network ?

Unfortunately it's based on location, so 400 Meters away is your best choice. Same house will be not a good idea

Probably not a big deal. Mine is a few houses over from where I am as I wanted to be in my own HEX. I don't think height on the app setting matters as much as the dBi so I've read.
Im skeptical about the amount of users... Also, how does this effect data caps with ISP'S.? What if in a miner, using his own wifi to power it, does the usage of users go against my isp data cap?
I currently have a data cap of 1.2TB.

I'm concerned that the project isn't making a great deal of profit from actually providing value, rather by "proof of coverage" model, of which the reward is eroding away. The project doesn't seem to be very decentralized, either. Why would a DIY miner not be allowed to profit from the PoC? what is the concern here?

I got a question. So I applied for a hot spot and got approved on that iHub site and they'll send me a free miner. Now I just bought a new house and I want to move my hot spot to that area and it says I can't because the area is too dense... what should I do ?
